About this property
Nestled in the Wooded Foothills of the Maiella National Park, Abruzzo, Italy
In the foothills of the Maiella National Park 'Casa in Legno' provides the perfect setting for a taste of real Italy.
Situated on a steeply sloping wooded site in the hamlet of Limiti, near Palombaro, Chieti, Abruzzo, 'Casa in Legno' offers accomodation on two level terraces.
At the top is the main house; a two bedroomed villa with open plan accomodation downstairs. The master bedroom has a double bed and ensuite facilities whilst the second bedroom is equipped with twin beds with a family bathroom just outside the door. Both bedrooms open out onto a large glass fronted balcony with commanding views across the valley to the hill top town of Palombaro. The ground floor has an expansive covered terrace for eating outdoors on those balmy summer evenings.
The sun drenched lower terrace provides the setting for the swimming pool and pool house. The poolhouse is its own private apartment with a double bedroom, showerroom and kitchen/living room with double sofa bed. Please note that we do not let out the properties separately and that the whole site including the pool would be for your sole usage.
Both properties are newly constructed. The photos shown on this website were taken in March before the surrounding trees had come into leaf. Work is ongoing.
Whilst the interiors are complete the landscaping of the site remains in its natural state.
Visitors should be aware that there are steep slopes and big drops both on our land and in the surrounding area which could be dangerous especially for young children. Fencing and landscaping is ongoing but no work will be carried out during your stay.
The road up to the property is steep and narrow and the last 200 metres is a gravel track. Clients should be aware that a vehicle with good ground clearance is recommended and that low profile tyres are generally not good news throughout the area.
If you have any concerns please contact us.

About the host
Hosted by Barrie

Barrie and Sophie Metcalf live in Newport, South Wales.
Barrie is semi retired and working for a community based charity. He was previously the owner of a sailmaking business with not surprisingly a keen interest in sailing.
Sophie is a civil servant and has two children from a previous marriage; Henry, 21, a trainee teacher and Imogen, 18, a Musical Theatre student.
Sophie and Barrie are learning Italian slowly; it is easier when you are there. Visitors need not have any concern about language difficulties as the property is operated by British locals who are always available to help if required.

Why they chose this property
Limiti and Palombaro are rich in local tradition. The welcome we received when we first arrived was extraordinary and we have gained many Italian friends despite the language barrier.
Every time we visit 'Casa In Legno' we feel the weight of the world drop off our shoulders because of the beauty and tranquility of the place.

What makes this property unique
With spectacular views across the valley to the hill top town of Palombaro with the Maiella mountains behind it, Casa In Legno provides the ideal base for a very special holiday.
Abruzzo is largely undiscovered by the tourist industry and provides the real taste of rural Italy. Time can be spent relaxing by the private pool, exploring historic towns, walking locally or tackling the multitude of mountain tracks, enjoying the hospitality of the nearby bars and restaurants and sampling the local produce.
For those wanting to get some sand between their toes, the beaches of the Adriatic coast are half an hour away with their trademark 'Trabocchi' fishing machines some of which have been converted into restaurants.
The caves at Cavallone are spectacular although the ride up on the cable car and walk to the entrance is not for the faint hearted.
White water rafting down to Lago di Casoli is a great experience for all ages.
August is a month of Feste with street parties and fireworks every night in one of the local towns.
In winter, 'Casa In Legno' is situated close enough to both Passo Lanciano and Rocaraso ski resorts giving the opportunity for a holiday with skiing as opposed to a skiing holiday. Passo Lanciano is small, easy and friendly; the ideal place for a first skiing trip or just an afternoon's ski. Rocaraso rivals many of the Alpine resorts in terms of size and complexity. Experienced skiers will welcome the prices at both resorts.
Visitors should be aware that little English is spoken in the area but the locals welcome and enjoy our efforts at Italian.
