Canonica di Rio
The Canonica, the former rectory of the village of Rio, is majestic and has a beautiful view from the very spacious terrace over the Val di Vara.
Rio is a frazione of Sesta Godano and lies at the foot of the flanks (427m) of the Monte Gottero, the highest mountain of the Val de Vara, and is also part of the Alte Via dei Monte Liguria.
It is a sweet little 'semi' mountain village with a ruin of one of the palaces of the Malespina family.
Beautiful alleys with arches, beautiful old village houses, a well with a small water pugger and here and there wild palms.
And at the edge of the village the big path that leads to the top of the Monte Gottero.
The Canonica is located on the square with the church and the free-standing bell tower.
On the square are two mighty evergreen oaks.

For groceries: Sesta Godano, the larger town, is a 5 min drive and has a supermarket, bakery, pizzeria, etc.
Varese Ligure, 15 km. further on, is a picturesque town, even bigger than Sesta Godano. I
nformation about this in the holiday home.
Ideally a hiking area, mountainous with surprising views and ideal for mountain bikers.
Another option is the coast / sea with authentic places such as Levanto, Bonassola, Lerici and not to mention Cinque Terre.
And for culture lovers the beautiful cities of Genoa, La Spezia, Lucca, Pisa, Florence.
In addition, there are many small towns with a colorful "Centro Storico" such as Sarzane, Varese Ligure, Chiavari.
A 'cultural trip' by train, for example to Genoa, is an excellent option and not expensive.
