Merlyn's Cabin has an open floor plan with queen sized bed upstairs and two twins downstairs. 2 Bathrooms--one up and one down both with showers. Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher. All linens are furnished. An efficient heat pump provides comfortable climate control. There is a wonderful screened porch where you can enjoy a respite after hiking or rock climbing. I love starting the day on the porch with a cup of coffee and watching the many species of birds that are in the forest surrounding the cabin.

It was a lovely stay, with easy access to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch for rock climbing, as well as many other local outdoor adventures. I highly recommend!
Needed a place to shut down for awhile and we couldn't have found a better place! Close to The Lost Valley and Smith creek Preserve... yet the cabin is quiet and secluded. It was exactly what we were looking for.
Had a wonderful time at the cabin. Remote location that was very quiet and enjoyable. Would recommend for anyone wanting a place to stay that is away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The property proved a brilliant place to live in solitude for a while, away from people and noisr. Excellent location, well-maintained, with all necessary amenities.
What a treasure: A well-designed, cozy yet open open layout, all the essentials, charming original prints, forest seclusion, a feeling of history, a little stream, wildlife ranging from hawks to skinks… We look forward to a future return stay!
We came to do some hiking in the Ozarks and simply get away for a bit, and catch up. This cabin is exactly what it appears to be and is super convenient to town and hiking trails. The fire pit was a nice respite in the evenings. Just loved everything about this property.

Great place in the woods!
Great location, close to several nice trails. Conveniently located near the nice town of Jasper. Well equipment, great value!
This is a great place. It’s perfectly situated between Ponca and Jasper and just uphill from Kyle’s Landing. Lots of wildlife! We watched and listened to barred owls from the screened-in porch. Far enough off the highway to feel secluded too.
These was such a perfect place to spend a weekend and it had all the touches of home. Enjoyed having the option to grill or use the fire pit, tons of trees surrounding the property - perfect to throw a hammock up and enjoy the sounds of nature!
Spent four nights here while in town for a dirt bike race, and me and my family really enjoyed our stay. The cabin had everything we needed, AC worked well and the location was great. Jasper is just down the road for groceries or food, and there are so many hiking trails and amazing waterfalls within a 30 minute drive of the cabin, including Hammerschmidt Falls which is literally just a mile and half down the road.
Very nice secluded place to stay. The cabin was clean and cozy. The screened in porch was nice to sit in and drink coffee and watch the deer. Plenty of towels and extra linens and pillows. The bed was comfy as well. We will hopefully stay here again!
I booked this property for my parents and they absolutely loved it. It was well appointed and secluded. Deer grazed in the yard in the mornings. The host was was super easy to contact and helped them navigate the directions. My parents had an incredible time.
This sweet cabin in the woods is so cute and charming. Everything was perfect! The front screened in porch is amazing for sitting and listening to birds sing. We look forward to our next visit.
This was the second time that I stayed here. I absolutely love this place! It is tucked away on a private driveway. Very peaceful and quiet. It is close to everything. I just wish I could could stay here longer! Thank you so much
Very private, secluded cabin - beautiful setting in the woods w/two little streams running along either side. It was cold when we were there - we appreciated all the extra blankets and the little electric fireplace...so peaceful sitting by that warmth and looking out the big picture windows! Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing break!!
loved the house and surrounding land. Would have liked a one page description of amenities at the cabin, how to use the TV (available free Chanels), how to contact owner, nearest grocery store, a good swimming hole etc.. It would have also been nice to have a bit of history on the property, like the origin story for that rock tub or pool outside. maybe having a few local maps, like a buffalo river map would also be good.
We had a great time, the two nights were very relaxed and we enjoyed your cabin.

About the host
Hosted by Merlyn Lazorow
I am a retired art and design teacher. This property is part of my grandfather Spencer's Homestead. The land has been in the family for four generations.
Why they chose this property
I built this cabin as a retreat from my home in Kansas City. I treated it as an art project. The colors are vibrant and warm. The downstairs has windows across the living room and the upstairs was referred to a guest as "like being in a treehouse .' I like to leave the windows open at night and hear the sounds of the forest.
What makes this property unique
Merlyn's lcabin has a great location. It is very private, no close neighbors and only a quarter of a mile from the state highway 74. Perfectly located 5 miles from Jasper and only a short distance to the Buffalo River.
