Salinella is a beautiful, comfortable villa with private swimming pool situated near Trapani, ancient town at the extreme western point of Sicily. The property is set on the hedge of Trapani’s saltpans nature reserve, an area where the salt has been extracted over the centuries. Operated by WWF, the nature reserve with its typical windmills is a very important stopover site for many birds, particularly flamingos, on their migration from and to Africa. Surrounded by a well-tended, lush garden with lawn, the recently renovated villa offers an amazing infinity pool and spacious, panoramic terraces, which are ideal for dining al fresco and which enjoy lovely views of the surrounding landscape. Consisting of a main house and an annex, the villa features a bright, cosy interior. The main house includes a living room with fireplace and dining area, a kitchen, a further living room, five double bedrooms and five bathrooms. The close annex includes two further double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, sharing a kitchenette. The villa also comes with air conditioning, internet Wi-Fi, satellite TV, Hi-Fi system, dishwasher and washing machine. Excellent base for exploring the charming surrounding area, Salinella is only a short drive away from the close beach of Marausa Lido and the old town centres of Trapani and Marsala. Among the places well worth a visit are also the medieval village of Erice, the temples of Segesta and Selinunte, the Egadi islands and the Zingaro nature reserve with the popular beach of San Vito Lo Capo.

We had a fantastic time at this villa with our friends! It is pretty much as pictured, however there are a few issues - the beds aren't comfortable (our one was verrrry squeaky every time either of us turned over) nor are the pillows what you'd expect from a villa at this price point, the fridge doesn't seem prepared for large groups as it took 24h to get down to temperature when new items (e.g. bottles of water and wine) were added, causing the milk to go sour, using the kitchen involved the fuse blowing on multiple occasions, there were drainage issues (apparently no toilet paper is to be flushed, but we weren't told) and the house generally smells a little damp, especially but not only in the cupboards. The pool is the highlight but the bottom surface of it is crinkled in spots as it seems to be a cheap alternative. The beach that is 450m away is not one you'd want to visit. Trapani town is beautiful!!All in all we had a great time, but it doesn't quite live up to the listing and price.
