Artful & Inviting 1880's historic Stillwater home

Two story 3 bedroom home with a fully equipped kitchen. One mile walk to Main St. through historic neighborhoods. Two porches on a large double lot with gardens, bird feeders, and plenty of outdoor seating. An artfully equipped and very comfortable home, it was owned by my Grandma! Non smoking property, organic and green cleaning practices. Main level : One bedroom with Queen size 'Casper' memory foam mattress, full bath, W&D, 2 porches living room & kitchen, Upper floor: 2 bedroom ( 1 room Queen size 'Casper' memory foam mattress & toddler bed, 1 room with two single beds) half bath, large common area. The house invites you to stay! The St. Croix River Valley offers some of the best cycling in the midwest. We have many lightly used paved roads to explore on either side of the river and the nearby Browns Creek Bike Trail.

Wonderful time

Absolutely charming!

The property is an old farmhouse updated in the style it deserves . . . original. It is very inviting and comfortable and the location was great. A great walk to downtown Stillwater. A wonderful host, too!

This home and location are fabulous!

This historic home is absolutely lovely - very homey inside so you can totally relax and enjoy your surroundings. The yard has lots of flowers and seating - and a labyrinth - to enjoy the weather. Each bedroom has a dresser and the upstairs has a shared closet. The toddler bed was really the size of a small twin bed, so one of us slept comfortably on it. The owner was very accommodating and checked in on us after our arrival. The artwork in the home is sensational and we thoroughly enjoyed our 5-woman reunion in this nicely laid out, comfortable home. Would highly recommend!

Charming and spacious old world charm

Adorable well kept older home with all the charm of grandmothers place, yet updated with everything we need for comfort and efficiency. Plenty of room for whatever you might want to do, but sitting on the porch overlooking the beautiful landscaping is a favorite for our annual girlfriend trip. Away from the hustle of downtown, yet minutes away. The home is kept very clean. The yard is a delightful place to sit and look at the gorgeous plants, huge hostas, perfect for birdwatching as well. Just a wonderful place!

Great home!

Melanie's home was lovely in every way. Cozy, clean, whimsical, artsy. The books, art throughout the home, and the pottery were all a very nice touch. We prepared a couple dishes, and ate out at some of the local restaurants in Stillwater as well. Downtown was in pretty close proximity. We walked it once, but then decided to drive therafter as the stairs that lead you to downtown area are a bit of a killer! We did not find the kitchen or home to lack anything at all. We really appreciated and enjoyed our lovely stay at this home in Stillwater. A+!!!!!!!

A respite for family

When my son’s home renovation slowed due to supply and labor issues, we were left with a young family almost homeless. Finding such a compassionate VRBO owner who immediately helped was simply a miracle. The home fit them to a T and 10 days later they moved in to their own home- still a work in progress but ready for occupancy! Stillwater is a unique special place and so are people like Melanie!

Comfortable, Colorful, Close to nature -- a Calm Oasis in a Charming town!

You will enjoy your stay here if you like an older home with lots of character, beautifully decorated with Peruvian textiles and natural colors, comfortable beds, great climate control (heating this time of year,) a well-equipped kitchen, easy access to the outdoors, a friendly, quiet, walkable neighborhood with tree-lined streets, a labyrinth (!) to try and an easy-to- communicate-with host! We came for a week-long stay to visit our daughter and her husband (in their small, nearby apartment) -- and to meet our newborn grandchild! We were able to cook several good meals in Melanie's kitchen to bring over to the new parents. And they came over one afternoon for a delicious lunch of premade salads, soup and sandwiches from Stillwater's River Market Community Co-op. The baby slept soundly on a blanket on the floor:)) We also had time to enjoy short visits to Valley Booksellers and the River Market Co-op at the north end of Main Street, as well as a couple of antique stores. It was chilly out, but with a bit of sunshine and the bracing October air, we enjoyed the expansive park and walkways along the awe-inspiring St. Croix River. Having time to cuddle and get to know our new (and first!) grandchild each day, support the new parents (while not overwhelming the them with hosting duties,) allowed us to treasure every minute of our time together as family. We had a lovely little family reunion and Stillwater at Florence’s house. Funny enough, Florence was the name of my grandmother as well.The host was easy to work with, the place was very clean, beds were comfortable, the garden was lovely, and the kitchen offered all the pots and pans knives we needed to create great family meals.

Quaint, Historic and Artsy

My sisters and I loved staying in this quaint, historic and artsy home. The atmosphere and neighborhood provided us a peaceful and relaxed stay for us to enjoy our time with each other. The house had lots of sitting areas. We appreciated all the amenities...Kitchen was well equipped, a large yard with gardens, wood for the fire ring and enjoyed the labyrinth. Melanie was Wonderful!

Excellent place to stay!

We frequently rent homes from VRBO and others. This was the best property we visited all year! The location was convenient, the neighborhood was great and safe, and the house was one of a kind. The wifi was fast. Highly recommend this place!!

Excellent girls weekend

Florence’s/ Stillwater was a wonderful place to spend our annual besties girls weekend. The location was excellent - so many beautiful homes and only a 25 minute or so walk to downtown Stillwater. Great indoor and outdoor space to hang out and chat. We had a great time. The home looks like the pictures and location was better than expected.

Charming House and Beautiful Yard

I stayed in this lovely home with my daughter and three granddaughters. We didn't lack a thing. The weather during our stay was very hot and humid, but we were perfectly comfortable in the air conditioning. My youngest granddaughter and I loved the labyrinth in the yard. Communicating with the owner was always easy and pleasant. I highly recommend staying here while in Stillwater.

Sisters Getaway

Neat, tidy, and historic. The home was inviting, clean, and exceeded expectations. We loved the stories of how Florence’s house came to be. The kitchen was well appointed, with just about everything a person would need. We cooked a few of our meals, enjoyed coffee in the morning, explored the neighborhood, and felt perfectly safe in our new surroundings. During our stay, we slept soundly. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Sometimes it’s difficult to sleep in a new space. We did not have that problem I am happy to say! Florence House is close to downtown, restaurants, shopping, and different sites and is conveniently located. I would definitely recommend Florence House for those who are interested in homeyness, comfort, and a place to make new memories. I especially appreciated the air conditioning as it was rather hot and humid while we were there.

My roots are in the St. Croix River Valley, the house I invite you to stay in was my Grandma Florence's! I am passionate about the river, the history & the arts & architecture of Stillwater. I love the cycling, walking and all the great things our river town offers. I am a guide of the Peruvian Andes so the valley hills keep me as closely connected to the mountains as the mid-west can get. I also design Peruvian textiles, so there is a lot of rich color & texture in the house. Having guiding in my genes, I am always happy to point guests in the direction of their passions.

Due to the fact that I spent part of my childhood in this house, I am committed to the preservation of this historic property and making it comfortable for your stay. The valley offers many outdoor activities the house is conveniently situated and the biking & walking is superb!
