About this property
LAYDEN HOUSE ND FAN FAVORITE! Four Horseman Former Owner Elmer Layden
ND FOOTBALL FAN FAVORITE!
Our convenient and historical location is a Notre Dame Football fan favorite! Make your Fighting Irish weekend complete by enjoying a piece of Notre Dame's history right next to campus in beautiful Coquillard Woods.
Layden House was built in 1927 by Russell Smith, the developer of the historic area and founder of Coquillard Woods Social Club (now Morris Park Country Club).
Four Horseman, Elmer Layden and his wife Edith were residents in the 1940's during his time as Notre Dame's Athletic Director and his years as The Commissioner of the NFL.
Elmer Layden was one of the distinguished members of Notre Dame football's 1924 team under Coach Knute Rockne. Together with Harry Stuhldreher, Don Miller, and Jim Crowley they comprised the winning backfield known as the Four Horsemen.
The house is within walking distance (1.5 miles) to campus and all the entertainment surrounding it (including Eddy Street Commons, The Linebacker, Mitch's, The American Pancake House, Nick's Patio, Starbucks, and Martin's Grocery Store).
This beautiful home was built in the French Tudor architectural style and features 6 bedrooms including one king size, three queen size, three full size, and one twin trundle.
Fully remodeled, Layden House includes all the charm of a home from its era as well as the convenience of modern amenities (including air conditioning, fully stocked and modern kitchen, laundry, and free Wi-Fi).
Outdoor entertaining area features fireplace and three separate patios - one for morning coffee, one for dining, and one for an evening fire that seats 30. In the time the home was built, the rear lawn was used for croquet matches. There is a child's playhouse in the fenced in yard as well.
Dining Room seats 12 and is the hub of the home. While the kitchen is smaller, it is fully functional with every amenity for preparing large meals. You will want to stock up on bags of ice when you get here for the two giant coolers for use during your stay.
An extra-large driveway can house 4 cars...in addition, there is legal street parking. Garage parking is available for one midsize SUV or smaller upon request
No ND Parking Pass? No problem. Layden House is readily accessible by Ubër/Lyft or a short walk (1.5 miles).
Make your memorable Notre Dame weekend unique with a stay at Layden House!
NOTE ON CLEANING STANDARDS/ALLERGENS: We follow COVID19 cleaning guidelines that were created in consultation with Expedia Group partner Cristal International Standards, part of Intertek Group, and with the Vacation Rental Management Association (VRMA). They’re based on publicly available information from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Despite all cleaning efforts, pet dander allergens may be present as we have previously accommodated pets.
