Riverhouse Retreat on East Fork of the Bitterroot - Stunning Views & Tranquility

Wake up to elk grazing across the river, sip coffee on the deck as the sun rises over the Sapphire Mountains, or step off the deck and cast your line for a Westslope Cutthroat. Welcome to The Riverhouse – your private retreat on the East Fork of the Bitterroot, where nature, adventure, and relaxation blend seamlessly.

The Riverhouse is first and foremost OUR VACATION HOME. That's why you'll find lots of comments like this in our reviews:
"It is obvious the owners CARE GREATLY about their space"
"Every single considerate option was included"
"The house was immaculate"
"The owners go above and beyond in their commitment to their guests"
"They appreciate their guests and care about the quality of their stay"

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THE RIVERHOUSE
* Unbeatable Location - Right on the East Fork of the Bitterroot. Simply step off the deck for world-class fly fishing.
* Abundant Wildlife – Spot elk, deer, bighorn sheep, bald eagles, and even the occasional bear.
* Yellowstone TV Show Film Locations – The infamous Yellowstone Train Station filming site is just a mile away. You get my Yellowstone Film Location Drive Guide.
* Step Into the Montana You See on TV – If you love Yellowstone or The Madison, this is that world. The calming sound of the river just steps away, wildlife moving through the landscape, wide open vistas, and a pace of life that feels untouched. Guests consistently tell us the setting here feels exactly like what drew them to Tyler Sheridan’s The Madison and Yellowstone in the first place.
* Arrive Confident, Not Guessing – Guests often tell us they feel prepared before they even get here. From fishing tips and seasonal conditions to where to hike or pick up groceries, we pass along what we’ve learned over years of enjoying the property—so you can focus on relaxing and making the most of your time.
* Outdoor Adventure Awaits – Skiing at Lost Trail Powder Mountain (16 miles), hiking, snowshoeing, and off-road trails nearby.
* Ultimate Comfort – King-size Sleep Number bed, soft linens, plush towels, and a fire pit by the river.

We had a great stay at 63 Deadwood and really enjoyed the peaceful setting. The property is in a beautiful part of the Bitterroot Valley and was a nice place to relax and enjoy Montana. Keith (the host) was very responsive.Fishing on the East Fork of the Bitterroot was one of the highlights of our stay, and we also really enjoyed seeing the wildlife around the property and in the surrounding area. It’s a great location if you enjoy fishing, wildlife, mountain scenery, and just being outdoors. The house was also a convenient base for exploring Darby, Conner, Hamilton, and the surrounding area. Big Hole National Battlefield is a must. At the end of the day, it was nice to come back and enjoy the quiet surroundings and the river. One thing to be aware of is that getting down to the river can be a little challenging for people who aren’t as nimble or who have mobility issues. Bring a rope to keep from slipping down the bank.Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider coming back. It’s a beautiful, quiet Montana getaway with great fishing, wildlife, and scenery.

About the host

Hosted by Keith Lee

Host profile image
The picture here is of Keith and Patty snow shoeing at the Big Hole Battlefield - a forty minute drive from the house. They have snowshoes you can use for free at the Battlefield. Keith and Patty have two kids and two grandkids, who all love the Riverhouse. They love the water and live on a lake near Seattle.

Why they chose this property

When we started looking for a vacation house as a fly fishing base in Montana and the Realtor sent us information about the Riverhouse, I said, “O-MY-GOD Patty, you have to see.”

If you like to wade fish, it simply does not get better than this. Just step off the deck a toss a line.

It's location, on the East Fork of the Bitterroot with its great dry fly fishing... and its close proximity to a half dozen world class rivers and dozens of great creeks blew me away! Then we found out about Lost Trail Powder Mountain skiing 16 miles away - all of the great trails (if you're used to skiing the mega resorts with huge crowds you won't believe how much room you have to yourself). The history, right here on the Lewis and Clark and Nez Perce trial - the wildlife, right on the property, in the river, and across the river - a wonderful 'Real Montana Home Cooking' restaurant only 4 miles away - and all that the Bitterroot Valley and surrounding mountains have to offer... The minute we drove onto the grounds of The Riverhouse, Patty and I knew this was our second home.

When we bought the Riverhouse I expected to spend a lot of time fishing those other world class rivers and streams close by, but after fishing up and down the river right off the deck, I seldom go anywhere else. I’ve fished all of the famous rivers in Montana and scores of creeks, and it doesn’t get any better than up and down the river right here at the Riverhouse.

I was shocked at how good the fishing was and then I realized unless you own property it’s not easy to get on the river around The Riverhouse. Next best know someone who owns property, or rent our house, so it’s likely during your stay you will not see another angler.

What makes this property unique

Most guest tell us that spending time on the deck 18 inches from the riverbank with the Sapphire Mountains in the background is their favorite time at the Riverhouse. Their next favorite - taking in the same views from the second story or the cathedral windows of the house. Others like being just 16 miles from Lost Trail Powder Mountain and coming HOME after a day of skiing. Still others enjoy the dozens of hiking trials within a few minutes drive and then again others are in awe of the wildlife.
