We highly recommend this property - the hosts are exceptional and the house is gorgeous. Very family friendly and the location is great. Very peaceful setting, and easy day trips to all the wonderful sights of the dordogne.
Somewhat shabby. Very poorly equipped. Not terribly clean.Wifi intermittent. No towns or other shopping/dining facilities nearby nor was information offerred as to what was available or where. Not the property we reserved (which appeared much more attractive.) Owners said it was undergoing unscheduled maintenance (after we had reserved it) and switched us to the unit we got. Half the heating units didn't work. (No a/c though we didn't need it.) Coffee maker didn't work. No basic supplies like dishwasher or laundry soap, salt, pepper. Mold in some cookware. House musty. House cluttered with infant gear: high chair, playpen full of toys, bassinet.... Owners pleasant enough on our arrival but otherwise offerred no help. Entrance looked like West Virginia: deeply potholed road flanked by decrepit campers, discarded tire and other debris.

Beautiful apartment, property, and history! Sebastian went above and beyond to assist us. The property trails, and pool were great to start our day and come “home to”. So much to see and do we must go back !

Fantastic accommodation in a lovely area, helped by the hospitality of Koos, Ellie & Sebastian
Domaine de la Pradelle is made up of 3 traditional stone houses on the same site as the hosts' home.
The spacious houses have been carefully designed, lovingly constructed and beautifully decorated to create comfortable, high quality accommodation.
There is a large swimming pool, table tennis and badminton on the site. Our children enjoyed feeding the free range chickens whilst we benefited from fresh eggs at breakfast thanks to the generosity of our hosts.
Sebastian was able to point us in the right direction for all of the activities that we were looking for which included a kayak trip down the Dordogne, a tree top "ropes experience", visits to several stunning castles and an unforgettable and challenging exercise involving traversing a cliff >100m above the Dordogne whilst secured to a steel rope.
Overall, an excellent week in fabulous surroundings, enhanced by sociable and knowledgeable hosts.

About the host
Hosted by Koos and Elly van Hooven
Highly popular with holidaymakers they are fully booked each year.
After selling their business in Holland, Elly and Sebastiaan van Hooven bought a camping car to travel France looking for their forever home. The interior architect and entrepreneur explains: “ we needed a complete sea-change else business would continue to dominate our lives. We found the Perigord Noir, decided it was perfect for us and started looking for a secluded property with perhaps a simple renovation - a bathroom or library – but then we found Domaine de Pradelle!”
Not far from the ancient village of Ste Alvère, famed for its truffle markets, Domaine de Pradelle is set above the valley and river – it charms from the instant you arrive. Built of glorious golden stone with Perigordine style roofs, the Chartreuse was built in the early 18th century. Symmetrical in style it looks over a courtyard with ancient chestnut trees. Now restored immaculately, light floods every room – each boasting its own fireplace – glorious living rooms are set garden-side, the luxurious master suite, another lounge and further rooms at road level.
Today the Domaine includes three highly enviable luxury gîtes set close to the glorious swimming pool carved out of rock! The first year they finished their home in the Castle in time for their family to come for Christmas (in true renovation style they'd lived on site in a caravan), however their gîtes Lavande, Glycines and Les Rosiers, each with three romantic bedrooms and wonderful living spaces, took far longer to create from semi-derelict buildings and cowsheds!
Attention to detail is keynote throughout – from retaining architectural features to energy-efficient solutions all bound with modern comfort – this restoration is simply superb!
But it is the perfection and charm of Domaine de Pradelle which inspire you to stay during your holiday in this glorious place.
Why they chose this property
Perigord Noir (Black Perigord) is the most visited region of the Dordogne, and includes many of the sights that you will already have heard of. This part of the Perigord is the richest in terms of beautiful villages, magnificent castles, pre-historic cave paintings and caves rich in stalactites and stalagmites. It really is a wonderful area and well worth visiting.
The Perigord Noir is the most popular part of the Perigord area.
