About this property
Ocean Front Beach House with private path to the beach and an amazing view
We have made some recent updates to the house. The pictures have all be updated to show the recent changes we have made. We have new carpet throughout the house and new paint in the bedrooms. We hope you enjoy these updates as much as we do.
The house is designed to be family friendly. We have a well stocked kitchen with everything you will need to have meals at home. Newport also has some great restaurants if you want to take a break from cooking on your vacation. There are 2 bedrooms one each floor and two shared bathrooms, one on each floor. The downstairs sitting area has a tv and is a great place to relax and have conversations. The upstairs great room has views of the ocean, a sectional that you will sink in to while you enjoy the big tv. The game table and open space make it a nice place to gather, play games and watch movies.
From June 15 - Labor Day there is a 3 night minimum stay.
This is the last house on a gravel road with a small creek on one side down to the beach. The beach has a small creek pool with a sandy beach bottom - safe for little kids and away from waves. Additionally, there is a fully gated deck with latched gate, which is safe for the young ones.
Enjoy breakfast on the deck while overlooking the endless ocean. Wake to waves, gaze on the deep blue, and if you're lucky, watch a whale or two. Only steps away from surf and fun. Play on Agate Beach in the sand or in its tide pools or head to the Oregon Coast Aquarium or Nye Beach close by. Just what you wanted from a beachfront house for the family!
With two large living rooms there is room for multiple inside activities on a storm watching day. Of course, when the sun is out, just walk down the trail and get your toes sandy! There are 3 bedrooms with queen sized beds and one room with two twin beds. The kitchen is well equipped for entertaining. Please note that the private trail to the beach has a few built-in steps along the dirt path with a rope rail. This trail is not for anyone unstable on their feet or with any physical limitations.
Sorry, no pets allowed.
Holidays have a 3 night minimum: Thanksgiving, (Christmas Dec 20 - Jan 1), Presidents Day, Memorial Day, June 15th through Labor Day have a minimum 3 night rental period.

Clean, well-maintained, comfortable beds, nicely-decorated, well-stocked kitchen for cooking. Loved the path down to the beach and the big windows in the upstairs family room.
This property was everything that was advertised. It was beautiful, roomy, well appointed, comfortable, clean and cozy. We will look forward to our next visit!
Mary Jo is an amazing host and decorator! The house was perfect for two families with teenagers. Loved the beach and quiet neighborhood. We will be back!

We had an awesome stay. The house setup has one Queen and a twin bedroom with walk in shower. Beautiful views and the grandchildren loved the path to the beach.
This was a great place to stay. We would stay here again in the future. The beach access was easy as well. Clean and well stocked. The view was great.

We LOVED our stay at this beach house!
It was perfect for 6 adults and 2 children. Great décor, comfy, clean and spacious! Nice view and the short trail to the beach was well maintained - everyone in our party made it up and down with no complaints. I would definitely rent this property again.

I am glad you enjoyed your time at our home. Thank you for sharing your experience with others.
We’ve come to Newport for the last 7 years during spring break. Of all the places we’ve stayed over the years, this was absolutely our favorite. The spaces we had to play games together, watch movies together, and the path down to the beach made this property absolutely perfect for our family. Can’t wait to come back again.
House was perfect for our weekend escape! We enjoyed the super big couch & spacious room upstairs for playing cards & Mario Kart. Loved the double sliding glass doors, we could hear the ocean & provided a nice breeze. Thank you for keeping the kitchen stocked & providing above what I expected.
This house has pretty much everything you’d need to cook, be comfortable, and tables to play games, all with amazing views of the ocean through the trees. Private access to the beach a plus! Bring your rubber boots to cross the wide creek or simply wade across in bare feet to get to the ocean. Cliffs and rocks to explore on the right, sand dunes to the left, and surfers to watch out front.
This property was well suited to accommodate our family. It was clean, kid friendly, and had all the amenities (and sea anemones) to call this place home during our stay. The location to the beach was ideal. The owner herself even came out before we had arrived to deal with a wasp nest that prevented occupants from accessing the beach. That was huge! We will definitely be back.
This was as advertised and a great location. The floor plan is ideal for a family with a large family area both upstairs and down. The location is just the best with the beach down a short (but somewhat significant) incline. The path itself could use some improvement. Well equipped and according to two teen kids… nothing to improve.
This property was lovely. It was very well equipped and extremely comfortable and just felt like being "at home". We liked the open plan space downstairs, and found the upstairs seating area very comfy for watching TV in the evenings. The deck was a great space for relaxing outside. While we appreciated the existence of the path down to the beach, we did find it a bit rough and likely not very accessible for anyone with balance or mobility challenges. Having said that, we did make it up and down without incident! Overall, the property was lovely and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful get away.
Let me start by saying the host was amazing. We had an issue prior to the trip. The host MaryJo went above and beyond to save our trip. You are booking from someone that takes care of people.
As for the VRBO, the beach cottage exceeded our expectations. The set up allowed for 2 families to comfortably stay. The property has a clear path down to the ocean with lots of opportunity to explore and relax right on the ocean without having to jump in the car and drive. Be aware that the path is very clean and has rope hand rails but is a little steep. This seems to be the norm for the Oregon coast. We ended up hiking it multiple times a day.
Amenities near by ranged from visiting the Newport aquarium, Oregon state science center, walking the piers to view the sea lions, and visit some restaurants and the rouge brewery. However, we spent most of the time at the beach.

Lovely house with an excellent location and view.
Nice spacious house with a great view of the ocean and trees. Lovely owner who is very responsive and engaged. Bedrooms were nice with comfortable beds and bedding. Furniture was plentiful and good quality and comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped and met our needs as we cooked all our meals in the four nights we stayed there.
Have to mention a few problems however. There was a terrible smell of the sewer at the back of the house where we parked the car. Every time we came back we had that nauseating smell. You generally couldn't smell it in the house but my sister couldn't open the bedroom window because of the smell. Also the bathroom faucets are in need of maintenance as well as the shower door in the downstairs bathroom. We couldn't get the DVD player to work, which was a disappointment. Also we could never figure out the security system. Having said all that, we didn't contact the owner during our stay so these were just annoyances that did not have a terrible impact on our stay.
In general this house has a great location and view and is very roomy and comfortable. I would recommend it as a retreat for adults like my sisters and I did or for families because of the space.

I am sorry that you had several problems. I wish you would have contacted me during your stay so I was aware there were problems. It is always helpful if guests can let me know that something is not working while they are at the home. It is helpful to me to have specifics. With the summer season I do not get to the house between every guest. I do make several day trips during the busy summer rental season to check on the house. If I know there are problems I work to get them resolved. I was able to replace the DVD player with an upgraded model which also plays Blue Ray disks. I have a glass company coming in to look at the shower door and what the options are for getting it to close without lifting it up a bit. I have not been able to find a problem with the faucets or the alarm system. I would ask my future guests to contact me directly and let me know if something isn't working. I may not be able to resolve every problem during your stay but I do want my home to be in good working order for my guests.
Thank you.
Everything about this house was perfect! I will absolutely rent again.

About the host

I co-own this house with my brother. We built this house on property that has been owned by our family for close to 100 years. I manage the rentals of our beach home because we want to have a connection with the people that stay here. We hope you will enjoy your time at the beach as much as we do. We also hope you will recognize it is our home and treat it as you would your own.
Why they chose this property
My brother Kirk and I co-own this home together. We built the house in 1993. Our grandparents had a house here where they spent the summers from the time our mother was a baby until the house burned down during the 1940's. My grandparents didn't rebuild a the house and left the property to our Mother. She gave us this beautiful beach front property and her blessing to build a home for our children to enjoy as much as she did as a child.
What makes this property unique
There are very few houses in the Agate Beach area that have their own path to the beach. We do sit up on a hill so the path is a bit steep and not for everyone. We do our best to maintain the path while keeping it hidden from public view. We have a beautiful view of the beach and are somewhat protected from the winds. The two living areas make a great place for the adults to enjoy conversation while the kids can be upstairs with a movie or games.
