About this property

A thatched, 17th century home in a central position within Charmouth.

Albury House is a thatched 17th century spacious, stylish and comfortable family home in the centre of Charmouth, ideal all year round for large families to enjoy quality time together. There are two attractive reception rooms, each with a television and comfortable seating, plus a library and reading area, and a separate conservatory with a table and chairs. The well-equipped kitchen has an Aga and family dining area, and extends galley style with two further areas to allow for easy meal preparation, and includes a dedicated coffee station with pod machine. A study, a useful utility area, and a cloakroom, complete the ground floor accommodation.

Two separate staircases lead you to the five first floor bedrooms, and all are all light and airy, with four having en-suite facilities. A generous family bathroom with roll top bath and separate shower enclosure completes the first floor accommodation, along with a small snug area off the rear landing.

Guests are well catered for with Fibre Broadband, Sky with Sky Sports HD and Sky Cinema HD, an Xbox 360, and plenty of games, books, DVDs and children's toys. Outside there is a pretty and enclosed large garden, mostly laid to lawn with trees and shrubs, and with a good-sized paved terrace complete with wooden table and chairs for 10, a parasol and barbecue. A full-size table tennis table, football net, cricket set and trampoline will ensure that everyone will enjoy time spent outside, and there is plenty of off-road parking at the rear of the property.

The local shops, takeaway and pub are just a short stroll away, and famous Charmouth Beach is just a five minute walk from the front door. The beach is great for families with lots of sand, especially at low tide, safe swimming, picnic areas, cafe and beach shop, and is perfect for rock-pooling, fossil hunting and exploring the Jurassic Coast. The beach has been filmed regularly for television programmes due to its unique Jurassic history and dinosaur connections, and the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre has fossil displays and organises fossil finding walks. Nearby is ever-popular Lyme Regis with its iconic Cobb, beaches and fossil museum, and a short drive away are Westbay with its harbour, Abbotsbury with its Swannery, the market town of Bridport, and the county town of Dorchester. Whilst being conveniently located for exploring Dorset, Charmouth is also close to the Devon border, so trips to the coastal favourites of Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer are also recommended.

Excellent for a family holiday with young children.
A very enjoyable holiday. Great location and the garden with football net; trampoline and other facilities was a real treat. Blessed with excellent weather which meant we could eat in the garden every night. Well equipped with toys and other entertainment for the family. We had such a fun time there. Thank you. Advertised as a house where dogs were not allowed but we found two dog bowls on the floor in the kitchen and a dog basket complete with dog hairs. Just a warning for anyone with a dog allergy. It would be helpful to be given instructions to turn the arger down as it gives out a lot of heat which is uncomfortable in hot weather. Also some cooking utensils are ready for replacing. I had to give them a very thorough clean before using them. Minor points but would make me even more confident recommending it to friends.

Fabulous cottage
We had a wonderful stay at Albury House with extended family. The garden was perfect for 5 young boys. The house was very comfortable, spacious and so well equipped. The location was great, a short walk to the beach or easy access to main routes to other destinations along the coast. We would highly recommend it and would love to revisit in the future. Thank you for a superb holiday.

A great property in a brilliant location, especially with kids given the short stroll to the beach!
The property was great for a large group. For kids the second TV/playroom was areal asset, leaving the living room for quiete enjoyment by adults. The kitchen is 25 paces long, spanning three adjoining rooms. emptying glasses from the washer involved a long walk, for example. The owners need to cut down on the kitchen utensils and appliances to make more space for food preparation and reorganise the kitchen equipment, especially cutlery and utensils to make the whole set up less confusing and more convenient. There's generally far to much stuff and ornaments in the house, leaving little space for guests to put things. These are intended as constructive feedback from a holiday home owners to another. Wee had a great stay with brilliant weather. So many thanks.
