Set in the delightful hamlet of Martin, which has a village shop selling fresh produce and provisions, this lovely, detached barn conversion constructed of a mixture of cob, flint and brick, includes features such as oak beams, doors and floors, and a high vaulted ceiling. The owner’s home is adjacent, and part of their garden has been sectioned off with a sitting-out area and a natural, wooden, children’s play area for visitors to enjoy. The church at Martin which can be accessed directly from the property gardens, dates from Norman times, although much of its fabric is 14th century, and the village green still has the village pump; the base of the 15th century village cross can also be seen here. The area is renowned for its excellent walking - the chalk grasslands of Martin Down, 300 yards away, are a national nature reserve and there are several bridle paths which offer superb riding as well. Princess Cottage offers an ideal holiday retreat for couples or small families wishing to explore the area. The cathedral cities of Salisbury and Winchester, Southampton, with its maritime history and ferries to the Isle of Wight, Poole and Bournemouth, with its sandy beaches, are all within easy driving distance. A lovely little cottage, very comfortable with helpful, friendly owners next door to help with anything. Nice outdoor space with table/chairs. Very quiet location but well placed for driving to interesting and fun days out. Only downside was the Velux windows which let in lots of early morning light so we woke up a bit early.
