About this property
The historic Cole Farmhouse #USA1731
The historic Cole farmhouse may be the oldest standing house in Providence. Located in the most desirable neighborhood in Providence, near coffee shops, artisan stores, and restaurants — less than 2 miles from Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). The serene cul-de-sac where Cole Farm is nestled retains the quiet, warm and relaxed atmosphere of the historic farm.
The farmhouse boasts open rustic layout, spectacular chimneys, wide-plank flooring, and striking period details.
Our resident Rhode Island Red hens are both charming and productive — their fresh eggs are a guest favorite.
Enjoy the beautiful porch overlooking the front yard shaded by magnificent old walnut trees, and the large deck in our backyard.
If you are into architectural history this will be a very special place. While the magnificent chimneys, wide floor boards and vintage bathroom retain the farmhouse feel, you'll enjoy a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances for a most comfortable stay. Other amenities include high-end espresso machine, dishwasher, washer/ dryer, air purifiers, high-speed WiFi and much more.
The master bedroom has king-size bed with an adjustable base -- perfect for a good night’s sleep.
Located in the East Side, only 2 blocks off Blackstone Boulevard (known just as "the boulevard' to locals), with a 2 mile running/walking track in the middle of a street of lovely homes. A ten-minute walk takes you to Hope St, where you find lots of restaurants, Seven Stars bakery (one of the very best in the USA), lovely independent shops and a public library.

The house is unique and full of history located in one of the best Providence neighborhoods. Ronnie is a perfect host whose hospitality goes above and beyond!
We loved chickens too :)
We had a great time and were most impressed with host Ronnie who was so focused on attention to detail, making us feel at home, and even bought a crib and mattress for my toddler. Wonderful time. Loved the farm fresh eggs and the chickens!!

Comfortable and charming
This place is beyond fabulous. I love historic houses, so this was the perfect place for me. The floors slope and the massive fireplace in the center of the great room is a sight to behold. But the amenities are all modern -- from the super luxurious bathroom to the comfortable beds. It is a beautiful neighborhood and easily accessible to everything Providence has to offer. I cannot say enough good things.
My husband and I spent over a week at Cole Farmhouse when we returned to RI to visit friends and family. This stay had everything we needed and more. The host was incredibly responsive and welcoming—great communication and warm hospitality throughout. We especially loved the fresh eggs he delivered to our door each morning from his chickens! The space was cozy, clean, and comfortable, in a good location that made getting around easy. Would absolutely stay at Cole Farmhouse again.
This is an utterly charming home in historic East Providence. Ronnie, the owner, is unfailingly kind and thoughtful, and made our stay very pleasant indeed. I can hardly imagine a better base for exploring the historic portions of this ancient town. The house is beautifully appointed, with a great kitchen! Very comfortable bed in the master! Fresh eggs from Ronnie's chickens! Very close to Hope Street shops and restaurants. I miss it, frankly.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, and we hope to return!
Ronnie is an exceptional host. He had a bottle of wine on the table when we arrived, and delivered fresh eggs from his chickens every day. The kitchen and bathrooms are well equiped and there is a washer and dryer. There is a deck behind the house that we used every evening. Another plus is the neighborhood, it is very walkable and beautiful. We will certainly stay there again the next time we are in town. Highly recommended!
We felt at home as soon as we stepped in. Warm and inviting, with great kitchen and very comfortable master bed. And we were treated to fresh eggs each morning from the resident chickens! Ronnie is a wonderful host. His responses were quick and pleasant. The location was ideal. We would most definitely book the Cole farm house for our next visit.
My children and I stayed in Ronnie’s beautiful historic farmhouse. It was their first trip to the state and right away we felt at home. Ronnie is a wonderful host. He gave us a tour of the home and everything we needed for our stay was at our fingertips. The kids loved visiting the chickens and playing in the yard. We hope to return next summer. Thank you Ronnie!
We went for the weekend with our two girls to RI to visit family and decided to stay at Ronnie's home (Cole Farm) It has been one of my favorite home stays. Ronnie is an amazing host and his home has so much personality + has anything you may need for your stay. My daughters loved the home and the Chickens that came with it :) Ronnie let us pet them, feed them and get their daily eggs. We go at least once a year to Providence and will definitely choose the Cole Farm to stay if its available.
Wonderful place and thoughtful property owner. He had fresh eggs for us almost every morning. The neighborhood was very quiet but not too far from the downtown. Highly recommended for families (plenty of space).
In town did a few days to visit family, and we absolutely loved the historic farm house. It was a home away from home and such a great place to relax in the evening. The history of the house is amazing. We got farm fresh eggs from the chickens out back, and some yummy pastries Ronnie left for us. For those with children it’s a dream because there was all the little things that make life easy, washer and dryer with detergent, dish soap, sheets and towels, coffee, full kitchen and the list goes on. When we had to change some dates he was so gracious and was able to accommodate what we needed! We will definitely stay here again whenever we are visiting RI, and we can’t wait to explore more of the immediate area. Thanks again Ronnie!
The chickens were a highlight for our elementary age children. There were more amenities than most VRBO properties: laundry detergent and basket, Keurig with pods, espresso machine, drip coffee, coffee grinder, coffee grounds, teas, soaps, shampoo, full kitchen supplies including basics like oil, spices, etc.
It's an old farm house, so the slanted floors, odd door sizes and odd layout were charming and to be expected. I would recommend not walking around in socks. The slants can be slippery, although the kids thought that was fun. Another fun fact, the stairs are creak-free; I've never seen stairs that don't creak.
We chose this location because it is within walking distance of my brother's. It felt safe enough to let my kids walk to his house on their own and for me to walk back late at night.
Ronnie is a very responsive and generous host. I hope many other people enjoy his property.
This home was amazing! All the comforts of 2019 in a historic home built in 1731. This is a great area of Providence ..safe and quiet surrounded by beautiful older homes. Short walk to cute restaurants on Hope St. My boys loved staying in this home (they loved their upstairs bedroom...and we loved them having their own space as well!) and they loved interacting with Ronnie's chickens. All of our family would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Perfect for reunion weekend
My friends and I had a wonderful time staying here over the Brown commmencement/reunion weekend. The house is spacious, comfortable, and extremely interesting—I’ve never seen such a fireplace! The space is clean, well appointed, and included every amenity we could have imagined (which happened to include an ironing board and sunscreen). The kitchen is great too. And we loved the location—a nice quiet cul de sac to come home to after a long day of festivities. It’s just a (beautiful) half hour walk to campus or an 8-min Lyft ride. We would stay again in a heartbeat. Thanks Ronnie!

Old World Charm
We chose this farmhouse for our first visit to Rhode Island, and were quite pleased with our decision. The interior offered an old-world attractiveness combined with a modern kitchen and other amenities. Appliances were new and clean, Wi-Fi performance was reliable and the home was well-maintained overall. Location was very convenient, being only a short distance from downtown shopping and the Blackstone River Bikeway. Ronnie was an attentive and gracious host from the time of our friendly reception to the well-wishes prior to departure. Fresh eggs each morning were a delightful start to our day. Highly recommended!

The Cole Farmhouse was incredible!
Our stay at the Cole Farmhouse couldn't have been better! Check in was easy, the place was immaculate and so welcoming. Ronnie brought us fresh eggs from his chicken and and on our last morning there a box of pastries from a local vegan bakery! The house in so charming and located close to everything! Can't recommend this place enough.
