Step out the front door onto one of Door County’s finest sand beaches! Relax on the expansive porch overlooking the water (Lake Michigan) or spread out on the handcrafted table which can seat 8 for dinner. Pioneer cottage provides the perfect setting for a deeply relaxing vacation. You stay in an authentic log-cabin but with modern conveniences like fast wifi and electric heat as well as a fireplace. You can sleep upstairs overlooking the lake, lulled to sleep by the waves. Enjoy your own private beach right in front of your cottage, or stroll along the sand beach, with the waves lapping on your toes, for a mile in either direction.

Pioneer cottage sleeps up to eight in four bedrooms: a twin and a double bedroom downstairs, and a twin and a double bedroom upstairs, 1.5 bathrooms, and a beachside screen/glass porch to enjoy the beach regardless of sun or rain.

It was the bare bones, clean, great location (best beach in door county), quiet, and had what we needed. I wish there was a nice comfortable couch to relax on when relaxing during a storm and reading and maybe an air conditioner in the loft but outside of that we truly enjoyed our stay. Door county is wonderful place… if love fishing, find a charter in the area, world class salmon, walleye, and small mouth bass…

The pioneer

Location was perfect. Not far from Sturgeon Bay and right on the beach. Had a lot of beach days. Kitchen had everything we needed. Apartment size stove but we made it work just got creative. Cabin was super cute, loved how they had original pictures of the cabin up. Loved the covered porch/sun room. I think my only negatives is the mattresses could be upgraded and more comfortable seating in the living room although the couches were very cute. We did absolutely love our stay here.

Rustic Cabin on the Beach

Great little rustic Cabin on the beach. This location is a great spot when visiting Door County. You are minutes away from Sturgeon Bay. If you are looking for a place away from all the crowds and a place to relax and unwind book this place. It was nice coming back to this place in the afternoon and sitting on the beach or taking a walk on the beach. You do have neighbors on the sides of you, but we didn't hear or see them. We did see other neighbors when walking the beach, but all were super friendly. This is a rustic cabin, it does have all the modern amenities. If you are looking for a cabin that was just built and has high end appliances this is not the place for you. This is a rustic cabin with old world charm. The second bathroom is small, but its not a outhouse. The kitchen has all the plates and supplies you would need for making a meal. This place does not have a TV. But you come to a place like this to unwind. Not sit around and watch TV. This place does have wireless internet access. We didn't have any issues with our cell phones while staying here. Like it says in the listing you can hear the waves from the bedroom. It was cold when we were there and even with the windows closed we heard the waves inside the cabin. You are steps away from the beach. I wish it was warmer when we were there. It would have been nice to go for a swim. I hope this review helps others when booking this place.

Wonderful trip to Door County

The property has a beautiful view to the lake. The kitchen utensils were not the best. We found bed bugs on our beds, good thing is that it was our last day of our stay otherwise it could have been terrible

I am sorry you had that experience, but I am guessing it might have been a spider or some other insect. Families have been staying in this cottage for the past five decades with no reports of bedbugs ever. Particularly during 2020 it is unlikely that bedbugs were encountered. Not only were any used blankets washed between guests, but guests were asked to bring their own blankets as a Covid precaution. Neither the cleaning person nor subsequent guests reported bedbugs (or any other bugs).

I live in Santa Fe, NM where I direct a small non-profit institute promoting ethical water policies. My father and grandfather were born in Door County, and I spent nearly every summer in this and adjacent cottages have a special place in my heart for this cottage, the beach, and Lake Michigan.

Why they chose this property

My dad built this waterfront cottage in the 1930s on our family property and it was our summer place when I was growing up. We rented it out when we were not using it and many other families now regard the cottage as their family vacation spot too. My wife and I continue the practice of renting it out when we are not able to be there.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is uniquely relaxing and grounding, the perfect place to unwind and rediscover yourself. The logs are cedar from the local forest and most of the furniture is handcrafted. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room, a living room with fireplace, and a large sun porch overlooking the lake. Two bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms are downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs. There is also a back breezeway and a carport, also built from logs. The cottage is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside.
