About the host
Hosted by Gillie Farquhar-Thomson
My family moved to Birdham in 1947 and Martins Cottage has been in family ownership since that date. I grew up in Birdham and went to school in Chichester. My own family have also grown up here.
We kept a few sheep in our paddock for several years. When we gave them up we turned the lambing/hay barn into two self contained holiday cottages with the added attraction of adding double internal doors that can be unlocked to make one cottage for larger groups. We love gardening and the garden and paddock always looks good throughout the year. We are very proud of our cottages and love having visitors to stay. We try to make them as welcome as possible.

Why they chose this property
We all love this area. We have everything! There is a wonderful sandy beach three miles away, The Chichester Harbour, with two marinas, is a ten minute stroll along a quiet country lane. Wonderful Harbourside walks from the cottages. Historic Chichester is three miles to the north. To add to that we have The South Downs National Park just a 15 minute drive away. There is so much to do here and no one is ever bored.
Chichester is a cultural center with its theater, Pallant House Gallery of modern art and cathedral. Not to mention is historic shopping streets for a wander.
We have marvellous restaurants nearby and in Chichester. The Boat House cafe at the marina is a 10 minute walk away with views over the harbour.
