This secluded retreat offers peace and privacy, helping you to escape the stresses of everyday life whilst admiring the beauty of a rainforest teaming with wildlife.

Whether its a romantic getaway or a relaxing break with friends and family, Red Dog Retreat is the place for you. It also offers you the option of bringing your dog and save on those kennel fees!

Enjoy the fantastic shops and award winning restaurants of Berry or Kangaroo Valley and then wind down at sunset on your covered veranda with a refreshing glass of something cool while you spot our resident wombats and birdlife.

In winter you can snuggle up in front of the wood burning stove. After that take time out to soak up the atmosphere in our spa baths or have a massage from a therapist that will visit the cottage, before hitting the sack to recharge the batteries and awaken to the sound of native birdsong, welcoming in the next day.

The cottage has two bedrooms and is designed with a rustic feel to blend in with the tranquil rainforest setting. To compliment this each is furnished with an array of eclectic furniture providing all the creature comforts of home. The main bedroom has a ceiling fans and French doors opening up onto the verandah to catch the cool summer breezes. Whilst during the winter months you can enjoy the warmth of the wood burning stove in the cosy living room.

With mountains and beaches virtually at your front door there is an endless list of activities to entertain you during your stay.

All this can be yours in just over 2.5 hours drive from both Sydney or Canberra so why not book your next escape today!

We loved our stay at Red Dog Retreat for the quaint cottage and bush surroundings. Sitting on the balcony with a cup of tea, listening to the birdlife, was the highlight of our stay. The food options in the nearby towns were magnificent. I will be returning asap.

Red dog cottage

I came down from Sydney to have a quiet Xmas with my brother who lives close by. It was a lovely sojourn and loved the rustic ambiance, peacefulness and views too. Highly recommend. Will be back.

Charming cottage in quiet location

This rustic cottage catered to all of our needs to enjoy a quiet few days in forest surroundings. The wildlife did not disappoint with Lyre birds and wombats spotted. Inside the cottage was clean and comfortable. Was a peaceful stay.

Peace, quiet and nestled in nature!

We enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing 3 night break. Having stayed in the lower cottage some years ago we knew what to expect and it didn’t dissapoint second time around. The cottage is rustic but has all you need including a corner spa bath and wood burning stove for warmth and effect. It is an extremely peaceful setting nestled in amongst the trees and bushes but is close to both Berry, Nowra ang Kangaroo Valley, the latter having a great pub that also does takeaway meals. We also had phone and internet reception which was handy. My favourite part was waking in the morning and lying in bed listening to the bird song. Sally was a great host and made it clear that she was available if we needed anything. I look forward to staying again!

Perfect weekend getaway

Such a delightful, cosy place. We spent a very enjoyable weekend here using it as our base to explore Kangaroo Valley. Our hosts made sure we were well informed regarding facilities provided and directions to the property. While this property is styled in a rustic manner there were some pleasing mod cons - heaters were provided (which our host thoughtfully switched on before our arrival) and even an electric blanket on each bed. For warmer days, there are flyscreens and a ceiling fan in the main bedroom. Would definitely consider staying here again

When you need to get away from the world and enjoy the silence of nature. Then this is it. A wombat's playground at night. Unplug here.

Best location for fresh air

Sally was very attentive to little details (reminding us that the children will have to share the double bed or that there's no microwave) which helped a lot in planning for the trip. The place is very clean and you can't get better fresh air!

A new family favourite

My family of 4 spent a very comfortable long weekend here. The cottage was clean and rustic with personality hidden in every corner. Amazing rainforest location with wildlife scurrying by and only a 15 minute drive to Berry or Kangaroo Valley. Sally, the owner, was very responsive and welcoming. Do yourself a favour and experience this hidden gem. We will be back.

Sydneysider

The cabin was quite remote, but fully equipped with everything we’d need. We’d been warned the fridge was on the smaller side, but it was perfectly adequate for our needs. The weather was very changeable, but the living room was cosy and comfortable for relaxing and reading. So enjoyable to be away from the city sounds, with birdsong the only sound. Slept very well and left feeling refreshed.

FANTASTIC cottage in a wonderful place

Wonderful rustic cottage in beautiful rainforest. We loved sitting on the porch relaxing. Sally was amazing, and we loved the fresh eggs :-). We saw wombats, two types of bat, and many types of birds. We lit the fire on a cold evening and it was so cosy! The kids had a ball playing in the grassy areas in the daytime. There was even a species list in the information folder to help you figure out what you were seeing :-). We LOVED it.

Quaint and rustic

This was a quaint and rustic cottage. Fire heater kept it nice and warm, comfy beds, friendly host who offered us a late check out. It was peaceful and a nice escape. Some things could have been better to really improve our stay -eg, crockery was all dirty and needed re-cleaning, one of the kitchen light globes was out, meaning we needed our head torches to cook, and one of the outdoor seats was broken. If these things were fixed we would have felt happy with our stay - sadly without it, the place felt a little unloved and cost more than we felt it was worth. Hopefully it's restored to its former glory soon.

Charming retreat

Red Dog cottage is a cosy retreat in a very special spot on the NSW south coast. While it is easily accessible from Berry, it is also removed enough to feel like a proper getaway. The view is spectacular, and while we weren't so lucky, I believe wombat sightings are frequent. The cottage is clean, well maintained and provisioned. It is quite small, so if more than two folks are going to stay at the same time, know that it's going to be very cosy. It's also important to note that the two beds are doubles rather than queen sized, and tall folks might struggle with the length of the bed. Otherwise, Red Dog is delightful!

Lovely rustic cottage in peaceful location

My adult daughter and I had a really lovely stay in this delightful little rustic cottage. It’s very comfortable and is in a gorgeous peaceful location. We were surrounded by birdsong and were lucky enough to see 7 wombats on one of our walks down the local road at dusk. We found the beds very comfortable, as well as the sofas in the lounge room. We didn’t use the fire but very much appreciated the heaters which worked very well. The kitchen is well equipped and had everything we need to cook simple meals. Sally was a great communicator and gave us all the information we needed for a great stay. We loved the delicious eggs she kindly left us. I would be very happy to stay here again.

Property was small and didn’t fully resemble the pictures There was moss on the outer walls which due to lack of care causes a damp smell inside. My wife and I decided to find somewhere else after been there for half hour. Place needs a bit of TLC and not semi pro photos to make it look better

What a shock

The high point was spotting wombats 3 times and a lyre bird . Arrived late in rain & darkness owner said she’d org for lights to be on . I thought she referred to outside lights she left bedside lamps on ffs ! In the rain with torch & I struggled with my luggage & my assistance dog then after an hr I found an umbrella hidden behind a structure so I Cont to carry in my luggage with a torch & umbrella . After I’d unpacked I read the book In l/ room there in amongst other instructions was the SECRET to turning on the outside light in the tiny car space . It’s a power point behind the BBQ . When it’s not raining the car space is prob adequate but the overhanging plants & trees at leg level soak as you walk past ..NO MICROWAVE OR AIR FRYER fridge is bar sized so cooking meals is not easy..the red pot on gas stove is absolutely disgusting. It needs to soak in coke & bi carb for a wk..The other cooking pans were out of my reach . I used the bbq tongs to knock down a few pans ..but I had no way to put them back . The plates are the same issue . The louvre doors on bathrm are putrid with dirt. The front door step tread is loose & a dangerous trip hazard . Yet when I asked for a step stool the owner said she couldn’t guarantee my safety..ironic is an understatement. My dog picked up a leech I managed to remove it but when I went looking for salt the salt shaker was water logged & there was no refills .this really made me anxious..I

Since moving permanently to our house in paradise, we enjoy walking our dogs on the beach, gardening and eating out in the many great restaurants in Berry or Kangaroo Valley. We also love going to the local wineries and markets.

Why they chose this property

We think we live in one of the best spots in the country - much green rolling hills and Jervis Bay just a 40 minute drive away. We are also lucky to be less than 15 minutes from the great country towns of Kangaroo Valley and Berry. In Kangaroo Valley, there are loads of activities such as kayaking, walking and visiting the shops, especially the famous Fudge Shop! There is a great pub with a big playground and outside area to appreciate the stunning countryside. The valley is said to be the most beautiful valley in Australia.
Berry is very well known for it's great shops and restaurants and people love to go there and browse as well as explore the stunning countryside and the beach at Shoalhaven Heads or Gerringong.

What makes this property unique

Red Dog Retreat has a unique quality that seems to make people return time and time again. It lies in completely a completely unspoiled area of rainforest on a ridge with glorious views over Jervis Bay and Kangaroo Valley. People come here to completely unwind from the stresses of city living and to commune with nature. An added bonus is the lovely cafes, restaurants and shopping in Berry and Kangaroo Valley both just 15 minutes away.
