About this property

Eco Lodge Mapleton

Dramatic sustainable house designed for relaxed holiday living by Mapleton local Philip Boorman who has many awards for his outstanding Architectural work and furniture designs.

Located on the escarpment in the centre of the 125 acre site. This privileged isolation has allowed the house design to be opened to the expansive surrounding valley and mountains by the extensive use of timber framed bi-fold doors and windows. Solar panels generate the power supply and roof water is collected in tanks for filtered reuse within the home.

The original survey plan of 1904 noted:
"All the country here on shown is of an Extremely Rugged and Broken nature."
This rugged landscape has protected the area from encroachment by subdivisions for over 100 years, providing flora and fauna with largely undisturbed area for species listed as endangered, such as the Coxen Fig-Parrot and the Regent Honey eater, to thrive.

Location

The Lodge is located 3 mins to the mountain village of Mapleton and:
10 mins to the vibrant village of Montville
30 mins to the world famous Eumundi Markets
30 mins to the beaches of the Sunshine Coast - Coolum Beach, Maroochydore, Alexandra Headlands and Mooloolaba
40 mins to Noosa
1.5 hrs to the north of Brisbane

Gorgeous place to stay with our family & dog. The Mapleton Pub is a must-visit for dinner - the food is incredible! We also ventured out to Kenilworth, Maleny, and Montville during our stay. The kids enjoyed collecting kindling and venturing around the property with the dog. We treated the kids to watching DVD's supplied by the hosts (we had little to no phone reception/internet connection). Would highly recommend this place to families, couples, and people wanting to travel with pets.

The photos on the website, good as they are, do not do the property justice. The house is in a stunning location. The house is also beautifully designed and has a very homely feel about it. It was also spotlessly clean. It is wonderful to be in a secluded spot but be close to town for supplies and a fantastic meal at the local pub.It was also good value which is a rare thing in this day and age.Thank you.

Away from everything

Second time here and it didn't disappoint one bit. Alone with all the wildlife and the stars that were unbelievable. Location for all the hinterland places and local hiking perfect. Hosts were brilliant to communicate with.

Repeat visitors

Nothing beats the peace and quiet and the joy of spending time with the whole family including dogs and babies. That is why we keep coming back. And it is great to tinker with a piano and try to remember my childhood lessons.

Nightmare on Elm Street

Completely misrepresented, very unsafe passage to the premises. Very hot at night, no security at night. Very poor cooling supplied. Left that evening!

Internet Isolation was an issue for us

It's not just that the property does not have internet - that was known - it's that there is really no internet with 1/2 hour access for much of the day.

Michael was the perfect host. Explained the functions of the house and its facilities. In its heyday it would have been an architectural statement but time has rather turned it into a faded present. The views are still to die for, the location is secluded and private and it is centrally located to explore the whole range. However the house was not as spotless as earlier guests had commented. Stained bathroom shower tray, torn screens on the bathroom windows let the horse flies and flies in to the bedroom area. The windows needed cleaning to appreciate the wonderful views. And the presence of a gas oven/stove really detracted from its environmental credentials. Despite these comments we were pleased we stayed at the eco lodge and were fortunate to experience the house at its best during one of the largest electric hail storms we have ever experienced!!!!

Such a welcoming and relaxing place to stay. Our second visit and we will definitely be back. The house is stylish and comfortable, and very pet-friendly. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and the location is hard to beat - quiet, secluded and yet close to restaurants, shops, and relaxing walks.

My husband and I love this property so peaceful with stunning views of the Obi ObI Valley. I am from UK coming as a fiancee for the first time to Australia in 1987, to have a exciting adventure in this Great Southland. My husband is from PNG born of missionary parents. We met in Israel working on a kibbutz back in 1985. My husband has worked in horticulture all his life and he is most interested in native endemic to the area. Many birds visit, a red browed finch got caught behind a painting in the lounge room the other day at the lodge. The lodge has been a part of his work for 20 years. We took over managing the lodge thos year as Michael and Robyn retired after 17 years

Why they chose this property

The 1km driveway is part of the Great Walks with a track down to Baxter's Falls. It takes you into another world. A wonderful escape from city life! Turn off your phones and devices and drink it in.

What makes this property unique

The property is most unique with no other homes in view you are in the beautiful bush, which the house is a part of. It is an exceptional design that has a wonderful outdoor feel as you open the bi-fold windows and doors and take in the scenery.

Premier Host

They consistently provide great experiences for their guests
