Good location, suitable house. Some issues impacted our fullest enjoyment. We had three adults but there were only sheets for two beds. Kettle lid did not open on arrival, on second day switch stopped working. Rubber gloves (yellow) had holes in the finger and were not waterproof. Other smallIssues that would have made our stay feel more welcoming include: bin liners for the small green waste bin, a set of smaller glass tumblers (we ran out of glasses).Potential safety issues that we think could be addressed include hand rail on front steps, and rotten boards/framing on deck as potential trip hazard and public liability issue for owner. The rubber rack holiding the fishing rods is perished and the wind blew the rods off the deck. This is a possible concern if you don’t want geusts to get a fright with the smashing AND ensure the fishing remain y damaged. We thought it was great to be able to have access to a house in Tarwin and would be willing to return if these issues could be worked on. Thanks again for clear and timely communication and a fabulously smooth check in/check out process. Sandy
I had an awesome stay until the last few days! The weather was very hot and the window furnishings couldn’t keep the place cool enough, the air con would have been more efficient had the coverings been appropriate! Also, no internet meant I had no phone for the last 3 days! This was not good nor did I feel confident if anything went wrong! This was a big problem
Older house, with large front and smaler back yard, undercover deck area, with all basics needed away from home. Very clean, centraly located, short walk to local shops, pub, galery. Tarwin River literally is across the road and is a fisherman paradise. It is a surprisingly busy road, but did not bother us at all. Close to Venus Bay, Wilson Prom , Wonthaggi , Inverloch all worth visiting. Hosts were responsive and accomodating. Just to note, yard is not suited for escapee dogs, but there are many lovely walks in the area to get them tired. Loved our stay , will definitely return. We stayed at Tarwin Retreat on our way to the NSW south coast. It was just as expected. Very clean and welcoming and with our trailer loaded up, it was a perfect spot to park securely. Communication with host was super attentive.
Quiet locale & convenient to access the local beaches at Venus Bay & Walkerville. House was well equipped & overall, a nice property to sit on the deck & relax during the evening. My sons enjoyed being able to walk across the road to fish in the Tarwin River. The local cafe (Bird & The Wolf) is a great stop for coffee & food. Enjoyable few days spent in South Gippsland!
Location good.Area beautiful. House needs an overhaul. Yes its on the cheaper side to rent. Doesnt mean it should be grotty. Oven, rangehood, trays, frypan were filthy. Plastic fly strips on door were missing & didnt fit. Couldn't leave the door open as we were getting eaten by mozzies. Carpet/pantry moth infestation needs to be dealt with. With better management & some TLC, this place could be great.
The house had every thing needed for a comfortable stay and is central to many places of interest to visit within an hour drive. Plenty of good heating. We loved listening to the Black Birds singing.
We had a lovely time. It was fantastic to stay somewhere where we could take out fur babies as well. We loved being right on the river walking along the boardwalk and just a short walk into town. We will definitely stay here again.
Overall really lovely, the fire pit was great and we had a very nice stay. Beautiful location. One thing was the hot water was off when we arrived, we switched it on but it took 24 hours to kick in so it wasn’t on until the morning we checked out. Recommend turning this on the day before if possible in future :)
No WiFi, washing machine was out of order and evidence of prior pets, with white dog or cat hair on the carpets and couch, but otherwise clean. Queen bed in second room wasn’t overly comfortable
It was adequate for our needs but not exceptional.
Our second visit and enjoyed again everything this place has to offer. Across from the river, walking distance to shops, cafe and pub. Short drive to the beautiful Venus Bay beaches. A really relaxing family weekend thankyou- we'll be back!
House has everything you would need ie: flyspray, insect repellent, all necessary cleaning equipment/products, condiments, cooking oil, a draw fu of utensils, Extension cords ...everything! Over all - 10/10 in all aspects.
Tarwin retreat is perfect for a short or long stay when you want that mix of beach and country. Well appointed, clean and great location for exploring Venus Bay, Inveroch, Wilson's Prom or just relaxing and fishing. Pizza oven is a great addition. Thanks for a thoroughly relaxing break.
Great little spot. Cosy accommodation- has everything you need. A few little upgrades needed but all in all very happy with our stay and had great time exploring the area.

Great for exploring the surrounding areas
Our family of 6 spent 11 nights at Tarwin Retreat. We found the house comfortable and tidy, location was very nice and peaceful, only a 5 minute walk to the town centre and local playground.
The location is ideal for exploring the many beautiful nearby towns.
We found the hosts to be very friendly and quick to reply to our messages.
For dog owners, I would advise that whilst the property is fully fenced, the majority of those fences are wire or widely-spaced driftwood fencing, our dog is quite anxious and given the yard is quite open, he did not respond well to having dogs in the surrounding properties watching him/ repeatedly barking at him through the fence. It’s also worth noting that some of the fences sit quite low so perhaps not suited to a dog who can jump.
Some of the furniture could do with updating and a washing line outside would be handy.
Other than that though we enjoyed our stay and would recommend.
