About this property
The Coach House at The Rift Estate
Set in rambling heritage-listed gardens at The Rift Estate, The Coach House is an elegant, charming country retreat. Gourmet kitchen, expansive living, dining, and relaxed alfresco spaces; minutes to bushwalking trails, wineries and Bowral town.
The Coach House originally accommodated the coachman and horses for the Estate's grand late-nineteenth century Italianate mansion; it retains many original character features that reflect its rich history as part of The Rift, one of the early Bowral estates.
A gourmet kitchen awaits, and an outdoor entertaining area with bbq and deck chairs on the verandah for relaxing. More energetic guests can play croquet and badminton on the lawn, or wander down to the field for a game of cricket or football. There are gardens full of fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers to explore. Named for the geological rift at the base of Mount Gibraltar, there are bushwalking trails and scenic paths to explore nearby.
Our guests enjoy a truly luxurious stay, with amenities including:
• Free wifi.
• Flat screen TV.
• De'Longhi coffee machine and appliances.
• Fully equipped chef’s kitchen.
• Luxury Sheridan linen and towels.
• Arctic goose down duvets.
• Three open fireplaces, heaters in all bedrooms and underfloor heating in bathrooms.
• Claw-foot bathtubs.
• Laundry with washing machine, dryer and iron.
• High chair, infant cot, games and toys for children.
• Wheelchair access to property, bedroom and ensuite.
Guest Interaction
The Coach House very private and separate from the main house. Guests are warmly welcomed on arrival, then left to relax in their own space.
The Neighbourhood
Bowral is lush, quaint and picturesque. Locals take pride in their homes and gardens, and the main street in town is full of delightful boutiques and cafes.
Getting Around
The Coach House is an easy 90 minute drive from Sydney and has ample off-street and street parking. Alternatively, an inter-city train can transport you from Sydney or Canberra to Bowral station, only minutes from The Coach House. Southern Highlands taxis can be booked for minor transits, as well as maxi taxis for a winery tour.

About the host
Hosted by Janet Ottaviano
Hi, I’m Janet. I live with my husband Paul and family in beautiful Bowral in the New South Wales Southern Highlands. We recently opened the barn doors of our charming Coach House to guests. Nestled in meandering gardens near Mount Gibraltar, The Coach House was the original stables and coach house on the grounds of our heritage estate, The Rift. We have had the pleasure of sharing our luxury property with wonderful guests from all over Australia and worldwide.
