About this property
Buttongrass Retreat Far South Tasmania
In the Far South of Tasmania, the forest parts to reveal a spectacular open button grass plain. Your modern 2 bedroom self-contained cabin is a comfortable eco-experience with solar electricity and hot water, wood heating and is free from distractions like TV and in-room phones.
Buttongrass Retreat is the perfect place to base yourself for exploring the natural beauty of Tasmania's Far South.
This special habitat is home to a unique range of flowers, birds and animals, a community found nowhere else. In the distance, the sometimes snow capped Southern Ranges loom.
Well appointed and comfortable, it features spacious rooms with each window bringing 'a new picture' and little touches including DVD and CD players with iPod dock, telescope, selection of native flowers, wood fired bakers oven and a reading nook beside the living area.
Yes, we do accept single night stays, but we encourage you to book multiple nights so that you have time to relax, explore and experience the nature of Far South Tasmania. When you stay multiple nights, we save on cleaning costs as we only clean after each departure. We pass this saving onto you by only applying the cleaning charge once per stay. The longer you stay, the the total cost divided by the number of nights becomes lower.
Stay a few nights and visit the natural wonders of Hastings Caves, Southwest National Park, Southport Lagoon, Cockle Creek, Adamsons Peak and Duckhole Lake. Maybe spend a rest day doing nothing much, enjoy the view of the southernmost mountains in Australia, the calls of Ground Parrots and other birdlife, the flowers of the buttongrass moorland. Come evening, the dark sky, free from city light pollution, gives opportunity to see the night sky in all its glory. Maybe you will be lucky and see a Southern Aurora peaking over the Southern Ranges.
Eco-features include: Protected natural buttongrass moorland, native wildlife roaming free, solar and wind electricity (enough for small devices but not sufficient for rice cookers, hair dryers, electric blankets etc) carbon neutral wood fires heating, water neutral onsite water collection, treatment and disposal, composting toilet, fully insulated and double glazing.
