Swallows Cottage is a total delight- lovely position, original features, country ambience and quiet with birds and breeze and sweeping fields. A welcome sojourn from the surrounding beautiful beaches.
We loved our stay - 5 mins each way to Witchcliffe and Margaret River, it was a great quiet getaway in the middle of the busy season. The cottage had everything you could need, well stocked kitchen and books, comfortable beds, laundry and board games for kids. The wildlife was amazing - friendly blue wrens, skinks and rabbits, and lots of property for the kids to ride their bikes around happily for hours. Thanks to Sally, we loved our stay
We absolutely loved this quaint little cottage waking up in the morning to the sound of sheep passing by the beautiful little self contained garden with fairy wrens darting in and out of the bird baths. It’s like visiting your nannas house it’s just so cute and relaxing. A lovely little homestead.
Very quiet, lots of animals and birds around to see. No traffic noise at all. Only a few minutes drive from the town. Lots of stars !

Loved Swallows Cottage
We loved cosy "Swallows cottage"..enjoyed the wood burner, birdlife, sheep, toys, hot shower, location. Just disappoined we couldn't notify host to let them know we had arrived also departed with in required times.
If you want to step back in time and into farm / country life but appreciate a very neat and clean home the Swallows cottage is perfect.
Really enjoyed our stay and felt like we were in a farm home still being lived in by a family. Well appointed and great as simply a place to stay the night after running around the southwest or spending the day, cooking a meal and enjoying a nice fire in the living room.
We will be back
Cottage was very clean with super comfy beds! Beautiful decor and all the kitchen ware needed for our large group. Spacious bedrooms, two porches so we were not tripping over each other. Good selection of board games and DVDs (phones took a back seat). Nice big country kitchen to sit and share meals. Highly recommend this property
2nd stay at swallows cottage. Just as lovely as the first visit. Well priced, gorgeous cottage - friend visiting from US during leavers’ week. cottage was perfect location to show off margs region WA from- very peaceful. Thoroughly recommend - from pretty, well appointed cottage and gardens to blue fairy wrens appearing on cue in the garden.
Great loaction, close enough to everything you need but just perfect for a truly rural getaway in a charming character cottage full of history.
Clean and tidy, everything you need for a homestay. We were lucky enough to have see emus in the paddocks along with many other birds in the garden. Highly recommended for some peace and quiet and connection to nature rather than the internet!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the cottage. There was plenty of room and was well fitted out. The only down side was being told we had to supply our own linen (after we had booked the cottage) and also the shower was in the bath. Not a problem for most of us but we had our grandmother with us and she couldn’t get to the shower. It didn’t detract from the stay however as we had a great time.
Coming from Melbourne to stay with our Perth daughter and her little one we wanted somewhere to have a relaxing holiday within our holiday for a few nights. This cottage is so lovely. It's relaxed and refurbished beautifully with the traditional original look. The Wren birds out front were a delight and the way you feel so alone without neighbours was perfect. My little granddaughter loved seeing the cows and bunnies. If we get the opportunity to come back we definetely will. Highly recommend this place with a wood heater and super comfy beds and everything you could need.

About the host
Hosted by Sally Keady
Swallows Welcome, a 120 acre property was purchased by my parents, Tim and Patricia Negus in 1988. They planted a vineyard and built a mud brick house, winery, art studio and chapel using the earth and timber from the property. My father passed away in 2017 and Mum moved in to Margaret River in 2021 so the winery and art studio are currently closed although it is undergoing renovation for future holiday accommodation and weddings/parties/concerts/retreats in the chapel from July 2023. My husband, Matt and I started restoring the original group settlement cottage, 'Swallows Cottage' in 1999 and we have enjoyed many family holidays there since then. In 2012 we decided that it would be nice to share the cottage with other people and to derive some income from renting it out to help with the maintenance and upgrades.
Why they chose this property
If you are planning a holiday in the beautiful Margaret River region, this charming, well maintained historical settlers cottage on a peaceful rural property is a lovely alternative to a townhouse or hotel room in the middle of bustling Margaret River. If you are from overseas and would like to experience life in an authentic Australian farm cottage on a working farm and also see native Australian birds and animals, including kangaroos and emus, then you will enjoy staying at Swallows Cottage.
What makes this property unique
Old world charm in this historic cottage that will take you back to a quieter time where life was simpler and the pace slower.
