Unexpected Visitors

The property itself was great however I don't think I would book again. The open ceilings are not practical for a houseful of people trying to sleep when you can hear everything in all rooms. There were "caretakers" onsite on Saturday night drinking and playing pool in the shed which is in the driveway. They were perfectly nice when one of our male occupants went over to see what the noise was, but if I was there with just women I would have felt uncomfortable. It would have been nice to have a heads-up that for over $800 a night, you don't actually get the property to yourself

Hi Shelli. It’s a little disappointing to read your review. The comments it contains are a little disingenuous. The owner of the house, not the “caretaker” went to the shed, which is approx. 50m from the house, after finishing work for a quiet game of pool. There was no drinking involved as he does not drink, nor were they playing music so there was no noise. The male guest in your group was actually very intoxicated and went to the shed after seeing a light on, hoping to get some assistance with the spa. The owner kindly provided the assistance requested for which everyone seemed very happy and thankful for. The home has a very unique style which most people love, however we understand it may not suit everyone. We hope the situation is more accurately represented now for future guests of this lovely and highly popular property.

A great property and unique house.

The property was great, our kids enjoyed visiting the animals in the adjoining properties. The house itself is a quaint, country property. Some information that may be useful for others staying; The house is a bit like a converted barn. Rooms are all open to the shared ceiling area of the broader house so noise and light do travel throughout the house. There was plenty of firewood available and there are a number of heaters, but staying in winter, the house was difficult to get warm. Additionally, the owners do work out of the garage (separated from the house) - this was a bit of a surprise to us and initially caused some concerns as our kids had been playing outside under the assumption nobody else would be driving in. After speaking to the owners this was less of a concern, but would have been good to know. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would have chosen to stay elsewhere had we known the above.

Thank you for submitting your review Matthew, we do hope you enjoyed your stay. Just to clarify a few points for future guests, the garage mentioned in the review is actually a farm shed, located about 50m from the house. It is used for storage and normally only accessed occasionally midweek. As your stay was midweek, this is why you would have noticed the owner access it. This does not normally happen over weekends. As you’ll see from the images on the listing, the house does in fact have a unique style with the walls, which while providing sectioning from all rooms, do not reach full ceiling height. It is a feature that many guests love, but we appreciate it’s not for everyone. We find that with the roaring wood fire, air-conditioner and heaters in each bedroom, when all doors and windows are kept shut the house will reach a nice toasty temperature.

Great house for groups

Great location, brilliant amenities, easy check in and check out. We had a fantastic break at Monkey Place. Would definitely recommend for large groups or a few families.

Great family property

A lovely place to spend time with family and friends; well equipped (including the Playstation!). Wi-fi log-in was a problem which probably needs attention for the future. Would certainly recommend and the family wants to return!
