Comfortable, practical house in a superb location on the Howqua River. River is right out front and the garden that surrounds the property rich with birdlife and flowers. A lovely spot to ground and find peace.
The views are absolutely sensational, the location - perfect!! To be able to experience this beautiful property with our dogs was an added bonus! We will definitely be returning!
A stunning property.
The location and serenity ensured that our family had another wonderful stay at River Downs.
Thank you again Andy and Penny for your hospitality and we look forward to another visit.
What a spot! The house is set in beautiful gsrdens right on the stunning howqua river, amazing views, beaut base to visit jamison or murchison or explore up into the high country. Andy is an A1 host.
Beautiful spot on the river- river views from bed were stunning! Large deck was the perfect spot to enjoy a beer after a good day’s fly fishing with Andy. Feeding his pet trout in the swimming hole was even more fun! Would love to go back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our calming, relaxing long weekend at Riverside House. The views over the Howqua River, literally in front of the cottage, farm, and bush surrounds are amazing. Accommodation was clean, cozy and comfortable and well equipped. We relished the warmth and glow of the wood burner each evening. A fantastic getaway!
If you want to get away from life with the most glorious views along with absolute peace this is the perfect spot. The house has everything you need for a long or short stay. So comfortable and warm. They have thought of everything. Books, music, movies, a fabulously stocked kitchen. We absolutely loved our few days here and will be back.
We had such an amazing weekend. The property is just beautiful and the dogs had the best time. It isn’t fenced, but the yard is soo big, they always stayed within sight. Beds were comfy and the electric blankets were a nice touch. Place was nicely furnished, although spending most of the time on the deck. Can’t wait to go back.
Very comfortable cottage in amongst beautiful grounds with room to spread out. River is clean and refreshing for a dip. Andy is extremely helpful with check in process and ensuring visitors are comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing few days at River Downs and our 4 legged members of the family didn't want to come home.
Great spot and certainly one of the better rentals. Andy was a great host and Fly fishing coach; when in season. Our Assistance pup loved it and made a new friend, ‘Roughy’, Andy’s dog.
Big Wallaroo’s come down of an evening so put your dog inside.

About the host

I manged a ski lodge at Perisher Valley, NSW for nearly 20 years before moving to the Howqua in Victoria. I skied in winter and fly fished in summer, a program which I still do my best to stick to. Penny and I bought this property after searching for about 2 hours. We both knew it was the right place to be.
Why they chose this property
River frontage and a glorious location. Beautifully decorated, really comfortable beds and and fabulous linen.
What makes this property unique
