Available for guests needing emergency accomodation as well as guests who would like a break from their busy lives. Catering for families and their pets (conditions apply) Train whistle cottage offers a fun stay for all. She is a great old dame with little quirks here and there. The property is fully fenced. ( Please check the fencing to see if it is good enough for your child or pet before leaving them outside on their own). As you enjoy your say at Train Whistle cottage you will hear the ever so gentle Whistle of Emeralds famous Puffing Billy steam train as it makes its way through the Dandenongs to Emerald Lake park, on its way to the lovely small town of Gembrook. A 5 minute walk takes you to Puffing Billy Station where you can board the train to either Gembrook or Belgrave, take part of the famous ride through the lush green country side of tree ferns, gum trees, hills, and rolling pastures. Only a 5 minute walk from Train Whistle Cottage, you can enjoy the many café’s, restaurants, and shops that Emerald has to offer. Train Whistle cottage is in a great tourist location, within a half hours drive, you can visit the vinjards in the Yarra Valley, the nurseries in Monbulk with its world famous Tulip Festival in September/October, hike through Sherbrook forest with its huge gum trees, Lyrebirds etc. Enjoy the view from the summit of Mount Dandenong over the city of Melbourne, and if you are adventures you can climb the 1000 steps from Ferntree Gully to Sherbrook, visit Cardinia Damn where you can see Kangaroos, these are just a few things you can enjoy of the Dandenong Ranges and surroundings. For the children and the young at heart, there are a few parks within 15 minutes walk of Train Whistle cottage, 5 minutes to puffing Billy park and 10 minutes to Emerald lake park, where you can find Walking tracks, playgrounds, Amphitheatres, picnic shelters and murals. The Emerald Museum showcases photographs, documents and memorabilia through the years from Aboriginal occupation to the present day.

We are a local couple who both grew up in the hills. Rob in Healsville and the Yarra Valley, Evelin in Kallista. We are full of adventure, we love our travels, we like sleeping under the stars, B&Bs, local and overseas travel. We thoroughly enjoy our 7 children between us and our 12 grandchildren. Not to forget or beautiful German Shepherd Gypsy and Little Tinkerbell who we take with us wherever we can, hence our pet friendly holiday rental for you to be able too take your children/ grandchildren and pets. We hope this helps you to enjoy your holiday or break with your loved ones.

We have provided anything that we could think of to make sure either a couple or family and friends with there 4 legged family would need to make their stay as comfortable as possible.
What makes this property unique
Train Whistle Cottage is a great family/ friends gathering place for guests coming from far and wide to meet up with family and friends. Wedding parties can stay together, there are lots of wedding venues within half hour from the cottage including Gum Gully farm. You can arrive by bus which is a 5 minute walk to the cottage if you want to leave your car at home. Where possible, time permitting (and us not being away ourselves) we can pick you up/drop you off for weddings or puffing Billy.
