Bay of Fires Eco Hut is an off-the-grid holiday experience at Binalong Bay on the Bay of Fires, Tasmania. The Eco Hut is back from the road on a few acres of bush, but just a short walk to one of Australia’s most beautiful beaches. You will feel tucked away, hidden from the world – unless you want to emerge for your morning coffee, which you can get at the Merestä Eatery just down the road - open 7 days.
The Eco Hut is deliberately simple. Power is solar, major appliances are gas and water is rain water from a tank. With a nod to the camping experience, the ‘loo with a view’ is just behind the hut and the shower is outside on the back deck. While it may be daunting at first, once you have showered under the stars with no one in sight, you may be transformed. There is no internet or Wi Fi (unless you have a mobile device linked to Telstra), no TV (bring your laptop if you need it) and, as in most of Tasmania, the only phone service provider is Telstra. The one concession is a blue tooth-enabled or plug-in portable speaker for you to link to if you just can’t live without the music!
If you haven’t been put off yet, be advised that the hut is stylish and extremely comfortable. You’ll have instant gas hot water and a modern small fridge. For cooking, there is a stovetop, a microwave (for warming food only) and a Weber Q on the deck. All kitchen items are supplied. We provide commercially laundered, top-quality linen, but only for the double bed. For the other guests, we provide mattresses, but you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag or bedding. Soft towels and face cloths are provided for all guests. To keep you warm and cosy, there is a woodstove with split wood ready and waiting for you to light it up
What you can expect to find at the Eco Hut
•A modern, wood lined, one room cabin •Comfortable double bed, with quality linen supplied, pillows, and doona •Mattresses on floor for other guests, with pillows & towels only supplied •Dining table and furniture for use indoors or out •Split level living area •Functional kitchen – stovetop (gas), microwave, crockery, cutlery •Small refrigerator •Weber Q BBQ on the deck •Cosy wood burning heater •240 volt off-the-grid power system •Gas hot water •Outdoor modern flush toilet •Outdoor shower under the stars •Portable blue tooth-enabled or plug-in speaker to link to •Peace and quiet!

Convenient yet private location. Easy to find. Very well equipped (loads of utenstils and cooking equipment making self catering easy). Plenty of books, puzzles and boardgames for indoor fun. Pristine beach 5min walk and easy hikes close by. Check in information was comprehensive and accurate. Would definitely recommend and stay again in the future.
What a find, great location in quiet bush setting, clean and well appointed cabin and very comfortable bed!Lovely to watch the wallabies and rabbits foraging in the later afternoon. I loved the outdoor shower and toilet too. Beautiful beaches within walking distance and extended trails available too for those who want to stretch their legs.
The eco hut was exactly as it was described, with everything we needed for our stay, and the outdoor shower was fabulous! The bush surrounding the eco hut made for a private, peaceful and relaxing stay. It was also in a fabulous location to explore the surrounding area and beaches, and just a short walk to The Hub for pizza and ice-cream!!
An affordable, simple and peaceful get away in the heart of Bingalong Bay.
Just a 5 minute walk to the beach, wonderfully hidden away from neighboring properties, clean, tidy open planned accommodation for those seeking a simple living break away.

Lovely location and a great place to stay. Loved the outdoor shower and the outhouse. Some mosquito's over night, but otherwise very few pests. Binalong Bay was a great place to visit.

A perfect hideaway ! Everything we needed to disconnect for a few days. Such a peaceful location in a gorgeous part of the world!
The Ecohut was perfect for our getaway. Just a short walk to one of the best beaches you could ever wish to enjoy. Binalong Bay overall was awesome. We will be back.
Lovely spot. It was nice to feel that we were not in the middle of town, even though we were. Peaceful, secluded and with pademelons grazing on the lawn in the morning.
Simple, straightforward living in cosy studio among the trees. As described

Adventure stay
It's in good location, close to the beach and with good facility. It has outside WC and shower and has only 1 double bed, ideal for a couple as the space is not big. The front door is bifolding door which opens onto the deck. Interesting concept of accommodation. The Manager Jan is exceptionally good and helpful.

The Eco Hut is a unique experience, and we clearly state we have outside facilities in our listing (though they are modern, and the water is hot). We also agree, and have set it up as a couples retreat. We upgraded George and his partner, into a modern house, at no extra charge, as she was not happy showering outside! The Eco Hut is for those who really enjoy the experience of the bush. Cheers
My daughter and I had a lovely stay for 2 nights. Enjoyed the outside hot shower in 2 deg and the peace and quiet in such a beautiful area in Bay of Fires. A lovely walk along the beach. The hut was closer to other houses than I expected, was well decked out, the bed very comfy, luxurious towels and the hut was mostly clean. Only suggestions are that the sliding glass doors need a good clean, the less used crockery was in need of a wash and a sensor light needs to be placed at back door so light comes on when going to the outside loo at night. We contacted the hosts and they were very quick to respond to our queries. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
It was freezing weather BUT the wood burner made sure it was cosy and comfortable
It was so private loved the privacy Outside bathroom facilities were good Great Hot water The area is gorgeous
we loved it !!!
The property was clean and tidy. Unfortunately we only had 2 half filled bean bags to sit on. The carpets need securing on the plywood floor as several times we slipped on them as they move. No toaster. Nothing comfortable to sit on and relax just hard benches and wire strung chairs. Eco doesn't have to be uncomfortable but this place was. The bed was also very hard.
We loved our stay at the Eco Hut. We loved the simplicity and the back to nature feel. The hut was well equipped and comfortable. We loved being able to open the doors on the the deck. The trip out to the toilet at night ensures you see the stars and the outside shower was also a treat. Would love to go again.
Well fitted out, excelleny outdoor shower and loo.
Very cosy on a rainy night - we actually over heated ourselves with the very efficient wood fire. Lucky for flyscreened windows to vent out some heat :)
Only critique would be close proximity to other residences- expected it to be far more isolated.
The beach was gorgeous- even spotted a whale in the bay.

Thank you for reviewing, and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. The property is as stated, just a short walk to the beach and restaurant, but is set on a few acres of bush, tucked in behind houses, and very private.
Lovely and warm eco hut, with all the necessities and extras.
We loved Jan's place! The bi-fold glass doors were beautiful and the wood fire kept the place nice and warm in the middle of winter. The outdoor shower was a delight, particularly after our winter beach swim!
