This beautiful new 3 bedroom, 2 bath farmhouse was finished October , 2019 and sits among 9 other guest houses, on historic Mound City Planting Company. This peaceful setting is the closest farm to downtown Memphis, 7 minutes away on a private road. Our 500 acre farm is a paradise for dog owners wanting plenty of space to enjoy off leash.

Our houses are located on a working farm that produces commercial crops of rice, wheat, cotton, soybeans and corn. We also produce a variety of specialty crops (blackberries, peas, pumpkins, squash, corn, muscadines, kale and other leafy greens) for local markets and have our products seasonally available for our guests to enjoy.

It was a wonderful, comfortable farm house to call “home base” during an extended job in Memphis. The morning commute was 15 minutes and the farm was a peaceful place to unwind in the evenings. Definitely hope to stay here or at one of the other Mound City farmhouses in the future.

Overall great rental, house was clean on arrival. Quiet area just minutes from Memphis. Owners were very accommodating for our family with a St. Jude patient to visit us at the house. The only negative was master bedroom mattress was not comfortable.

THE BEST HOSTS - CLOSE TO DOWNTOWN

This stay had so much more to it than we expected. First of we were pleasantly surprised to be so close to downtown. Although we were across the bridge, we had no problems getting an Uber or Lyft to come take us to dinner for $10 or less. By the way, in that ten minute drive from downtown to this house, you go from straight city to relaxing country. Second, the hosts are no ordinary hosts. We stay at a lot of VRBO's and are tired of having to wait until after 4 or 5 to check in and racing to get out by 10. Showing up and hosts only giving you one roll of toilet paper or no dishwasher liquid. This host provides fresh eggs, biscuits in the freezer, and lots of other additions that just makes you feel like they really appreciate you staying. Third, the property is historical and worth the stay just for that. The hosts have a barn with tables, a tv, ping pong, cornhole, etc. A great hang out spot. Lastly, the entire property is just relaxing. You can go for a walk with your dog unleashed. Pet the horses. Have a seat under the big oak tree and relax. ZERO pressure...it was very nice. Thank you both for your hospitality. Staying in W. Memphis made visiting Memphis much more enjoyable. Look forward to returning!

This was a fantastic rural location close to Memphis. The farm house was comfortable for 6 of us, plus 3 dogs. The large back porch was perfect for early morning coffee and evening meals.

Emily and Charlie are lifelong residents of the Mississippi River delta and Memphis area with backgrounds in commercial agriculture and farm to table production of Purple hull peas, winter squash and pumpkins, stone ground grits, and leafy greens. We enjoy traveling, fishing, fine dining and quiet peaceful settings.

Why they chose this property

Mound City has a long and deep history starting with the Native Americans who built the mounds that the town was named for, a visit from De Soto in the 1500's, to a trading post in the 1800's. The town was burned during the Civil War and was the site of the Sultana's sinking, the largest maritime disaster in US history.
We purchased Mound City and the surrounding plantation in 2011 and began the renovation of the existing sharecropper houses and commissary on this historic site in 2015. Although the 4, 100+ year old houses are completely restored and thoughtfully furnished with modern conveniences, they still maintain the flavor of their original purpose.
Since 2015 we've added 6 new houses, all in the same style as the originals, and located "next door" to each other, around the old plantation headquarters. Mound City Delta Farm Resort and Events now combines two indoor/outdoor event venues with 10 farmhouses.
