About this property

MTN CABIN LAKEFRONT,CANOE/3 KAYAKS,POOL TABLE,DOCK,FIRE PIT, FIREPLACE,JACUZZI

Waters Edge is a luxurious, recently built (finished July '07) custom built log cabin on the shore of beautiful, sparkling Watauga Lake. With 106 miles of shoreline and fabulous coves and islands to explore, use the canoe and kayak provided or bring your own boat and keep it at your very own private dock that comes with the cabin. Rental boats are also available at Fish Springs Marina, with a $10.00 discount for guests of Waters Edge.

If you have to stay in touch with the office, don't fret. Hook up to the wireless network high speed internet, plus make unlimited long distance calls within the continental U.S.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES GALORE!!!: There are plenty of activities close by including horseback riding, biking, mountain biking, white water rafting, snow skiing and tubing, sledding, ice skating, hiking (including the Appalachian Trail just 15 minutes away), fishing, golfing, shopping/strolling in Boone/Blowing Rock, or sightseeing and other activities at many outdoor parks anywhere from 10 minutes to 45-60 minutes away. Grandfather Mountain, Chimney Rock and the Blue Ridge Parkway are a few of the more well known destinations, but there are plenty more to be discovered. Bring your bikes and ride on Sink Valley Road right in front of Waters Edge, or transport them to biking trails in the area, including one near the Mast General Store outside of Boone, North Carolina and the Virginia Creeper Trail out of Abbingdon, Virginia to the north. And if none of that interests you, just sit back on one of the four decks and take in the beautiful scenery of the lake and mountains. Or turn on your favorite music on the outside speakers.

NOT SO OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES: For those who are not into outdoor activities, there are plenty of other activities. The Butler Museum tells the story of Butler, The Town that Wouldn't Drown! The town used to be at what is now the bottom of Watauga Lake. Old structures, signs and roads are explored by avid scuba divers. In Boone, NC near Appalachian State University and in Blowing Rock, NC, there are plenty of shops with arts, pottery, clothing and collectibles. There are also quite a few excellent restaurants. For bigger city shoppers, Johnson City, TN is not far away. Before you get to Johnson City is Elizabethton which has its own set of smaller town shops, restaurants and even an oldies car show downtown on the weekend nights in the warmer months and a drive-in movie theater!

YOUR VACATION ESCAPE: Escape to Waters Edge for a true retreat in the mountains of Tennessee and nearby North Carolina! The lake and national forest are at your doorstep. This lake home is truly waterfront with its own dock in the backyard. Bring your own boat or rent one nearby. Keep it at the dock which is just steps from the cabin down a winding sidewalk. Join our group of guests who say Waters Edge is the best cabin on Watauga Lake, and keep comin' back!

Fall colors abound around Waters Edge and in the vicinity. Panoramic views are found in any direction you drive.

During the winter, there are 4 ski slopes within a 40 to 50-minute drive. Enjoy the challenge and bustle of the slopes during the day, then escape to your own private mountain lake home. You will easily be able to unwind and relax in front of the home theater system, stone fireplace, Jacuzzi, or fire ring by the lake.

The calendar fills up quickly and well in advance. Make your reservation today and come escape and relax at WATERS EDGE!!!

Great Lake vacation

Our family enjoyed the canoe, the kayaks , the nice dock, the various porches and the well equipped kitchen. We especially enjoyed the shady road that goes into the national forest.. We hope to come again!

Lake Getaway

House is beautiful and view of lake is exceptional. Lake still has wood floating around from the Hurricane. We had a lot of rain during our stay but was still able to spend time out on our boats. Only complaint is the house is in desperate need of a deep cleaning. Lots of dust and debris on floors and window seals. Would stay again if cleaned better. Thanks for sharing your home with us, we really enjoyed the beauty..

Relaxing stay

The house was as described. Location was great, house was also well stocked and very clean. It was a huge benefit to have the nice dock along with kayaks and PFDs. Scott was helpful and great at communicating through out the process. Would stay here again!

Lake Living!

Great property - perfect for a long weekend on the lake. Would go back. The big plus/minus is Butler is pretty remote. Not too far from Johnson City or Boone, but it will take some time if you are planning to include those places in your itenary. We watched football - played in the lake all weekend and it was fabulous!

Great Week

We just spent a great week at this lovely house. Quiet location on the lake. Everyone had a great time and plenty of space. Really the only gripe I heard from all staying with us was that the pool table is slightly unlevel otherwise, A+!

Peaceful

This place was awesome! The walkway and stairs coming back up from the docks were steep and not enjoyable but that was the only negative thing about the experience. If your looking for peace and quiet, it’s a great place to visit!

Great place!

Great place in a stunning location! Loved kayaking, fishing, and just relaxing with old friends. House and amenities were as described and host was very responsive. Likely due to nearby post disaster work, Internet went out a couple of times and power went out briefly. Remote location with no cell service from most carriers. However, TMobile had a strong signal, so we were able to stream football games via hot spot! We will definitely look to book this home again in the future.

The lake experience was great!!

The lake was perfect, the canoe and kayaks were great. The dock was terrific. The house worked very well for are family. We loved the multiple decks and views. The walkway from the house to the lake was very difficult to use because it was steep and uneven.

Spacious lakefront property on quiet end of the lake

Our annual family vacation was lots of fun. We shared the house with my sister’s family. We kayaked, swam, and hiked several days. Deck access from bedrooms and living areas with great views from every window. We shared cooking responsibilities in the large kitchen, and slept well on comfortable beds every night. It was a wonderful week away from it all, and I highly recommend this house.

Perfect vacation location!!

Our stay at this Waters Edge home was amazing! The home was even more beautiful than the pictures had shown, so very clean and the view from this waterfront property was absolutely breathtaking! We have all agreed this will be a new annual family tradition- the perfect location to bring us all together for a family vacation! We even rented a pontoon boat from a local marina and spent Sunday afternoon viewing the fall colors on the mountain from the lake- beautiful! Thank you, Scott, for sharing this little slice of paradise with our family!

Husbands 50th bday

The cabin was beautiful BUT it hadn’t been swept or mopped in a long time. Before our guest came to stay I had to vaccum and sweep-mop.. a dirty diaper under the guest bed, razor container as well. Several light fixtures did not work-exhaust fan in the master bathroom was so loud and jacuzzi wouldn’t work until my husband had to push the button so hard for it to start. Heat did not work downstairs it was 58 degrees so our guest had to use the electric heaters. Fan outside was broken and pieces were left on the chair which we didn’t use it but it was still junky. Toilet in master wasn’t working and the maintenance had to come fix it. Holes were in inseam of couches which wasn’t a big deal but again this was a special occasion. We reached out to the owner to ask him if he could give us the pin so we could watch tv and have some music on and his response was he didn’t hce one. So that was a bit disappointing since we were playing cards and wanted a little music but we didn’t let it ruin anything. The fact of letters stuck on walls everywhere was.a bit annoying since we are adults and we do know how to flush the toilet etc.. in the laundry room there is a door that states if u touch it alarms will be turned on.The remotes do not work ! I also felt a bit uncomfortable with the fact there was rat poison in the closets sprinkled everywhere .The walk way to the lake was very dangerous. The rails were so short in height u had to bend to reach. I was a bit disappointed

A wonderful escape from from your daily life

I just returned from a very nice week at The Waters Edge. I booked this trip a year ago and have been eagerly awaiting the July 4th Holiday to come around. The home easily met my expectations. The first good sign that you notice when you enter the cabin is how clean everything is. This is especially important for peace of mind given the concerns with COVID-19. The kitchen is spacious and very well stocked with plenty of utensils, plates, cups, and some very nice cookware. A large pantry allows you to put up all your food without having it stacked up taking up counter space. There are two full sized refrigerators in the cabin and both make abundant ice. The pool table was a big hit with the younger folks that stayed with us but the star attraction of the cabin by far is Watauga Lake right at your doorstep.. Every day we were down on the dock enjoying the sun and the cooling breeze from the water, using the three kayaks provided to explore portions of the lake, and fishing. It was really nice to not need to leave the cabin for entertainment with the lake entertainment being so accessible. The wi-fi and other technology works as expected. We didn't use the TV until the last day of our stay and I'm always amazed at how many channel choices you get with satellite TV (I'm a cord cutter). Perhaps one of the most unexpected pleasant surprises that differs from every other mountain cabin I've stayed at is that you do not need to carry your own trash away with you. If not for the COVID-19 pandemic we would have gotten out and explored more of the surrounding area. We kayaked to Butler but did not explore the town or attractions. The owner, Scott, was very responsive to my questions and the check-in process was very easy. I highly recommend The Waters Edge to vacationers who are looking for a clean, spacious, comfortable and quiet vacation retreat for your family and friends.

About the host

Host profile image
My wife and I are environmental consultants in Florida who love to escape to the Appalachian mountains. Good quality lake water is important to us in our profession and our free time. Those are prime reasons why we chose to build on the shores of Watauga Lake - the mountains (elevation of 2000 feet at our home) and absolutely great water quality. We enjoy it all at Waters Edge - all outdoor activities, relaxing in the cabin, cooking with family and friends, and enjoying the mountains. When we leave Waters Edge, we are saddened but already planning our next trip back.

We have made Waters Edge a truly premier cabin for us and our guests. We have carefully planned and selected everything you will need to enjoy your stay. We have it cleaned and maintained meticulously to keep it in that premier shape. We are sure you will notice it and it will add to your enjoyment.

Why they chose this property

We chose Watauga Lake out of twelve lakes we were looking at in the southeast because of its elevation, its great water quality, and lack of crowding. Sixty percent of the watershed is occupied by the Cherokee National Forest and will never be developed. There are no weekend or summertime boat jams on Watauga. We also wanted mountains and views of them from the cabin. On Watauga we got it all! It is the perfect vacation lake home for year round enjoyment. There are indoor and outdoor activities at the home or close by during all four seasons. Our home is in the country, but convenient to the cities. Once you experience our lake home, no others will do!

What makes this property unique

Guests will truly enjoy being directly on the lake with their own private yard and boat dock with a swim ladder. They will also enjoy the fact that it is an easy drive in and out - no steep, white knuckle roads! The views of the lake and mountains are outstanding. Often at night, you will hear nothing - that is NOTHING!!! Peaceful. Or crank up the stereo inside and out, grill out, toast marshmallows at the fire ring by the dock and life is good! There are too many unique features to mention all of them - the fully equipped gourmet kitchen, home theater, Jacuzzi, fireplace, outdoor shower, canoe, kayak, pool table, game table, 4 decks and a balcony ....... And all in excellent, well-maintained condition. Come see why many of our guests have said it is the nicest cabin on Watauga Lake!
