* SOUTH REPUBLIC NEIGHBORHOOD- 3 miles to Michigamme River
* DOGS ARE WELCOME
* FIRE PIT
* SMALL OUTDOOR HOT TUB (2 people)
* OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND (Hunters, Fishermen, and Snowmobilers)

The Hemlock House is a simple, albiet dated, ½ duplex (with storage on the other side) in the small village of South Republic. Enjoy 925 feet of private space. Great for the visiting friends/family in town, a budget vacation rental to hunt or explore the Upper Peninsula, or the digital nomad who needs premium Wifi.

The outside hot tub for 2, with a privacy fence, is ideal for those romantic nights looking up at the stars. The outside hot tub is available year round.

The Hemlock House provides a comfortable living room space. The 3 bedrooms are all upstairs and small. There is 1 Queen bed, 1 Full bed and 1 Twin bunk beds. The 3 small bedrooms are all upstairs and the bathroom is on the main floor. The main floor washer/dryer off the kitchen and across from the bathroom is ideal. It's so nice to be able to warm up your towels for when you get out of the bath/shower.

Windows overlook the wide, though generally quiet, Hemlock Street. Across the street are two (2) tree-filled spaces. There are many easy walking or biking trails along the Michigamme River, so it is within reach to feel connected to nature. The Iron Ore Trailhead is an easy 3 miles North, where you can enjoy a trip into Marquette.

Frequently Asked Questions:

A/C: There is a window air-conditioning unit in the front bedroom which overlooks Hemlock Street. We do have a ceiling fan and the portable fans too. Plus, there is a wonderful cross-breeze from the living room to the kitchen.

Animals: Squirrels, bats, rabbits, birds, coyotes. Further outside of town you might catch site of wolves, bears, turkey and moose.

ATV/Snowmobiles: Yes, bring them! You will have to trailer the equipment to the trails. Trail UP18 is approximately 2.9 mile drive.

Bathroom:

1 Full bathroom (sink, toilet, shower/tub combo). It NOT currently handicap accessible, as there is a significant step between the bathtub and the floor.

Beach/Swimming: The Republic beach is just 3 miles north of Republic.

Bedroom Configuration:
Bedroom #1: Queen bed
Bedroom #2: 1 set of Twin bunk beds
Bedroom #3: 1 Full (double) bed

Boat Launch: If you are bringing your own boat, there is a nice, cement public boat launch off of MI-95, next to the sandy swimming area in Republic (North).

Bugs: Typical flies, mosquitoes, and ants.

Cable/Satellite TVs: Yes, there is 40" Smart TV with old-school DirecTv (cable), including a DVD player. There is also a basic TV upstairs in the back bedroom with just four (4) local channels.

Cell phone service: Cell service is spotty in the Upper Peninsula. AT&T & Verizon has been fairly consistent service.

Coffee Pot: Yes, we have a basic drip coffee pot at the cabin. At times there is coffee available, yet we highly recommend that you bring your own.

Distances (approximately):
*Iron Mountain: 45 mins
*Mackinac Bridge: 4 hours
*Marquette: 45 minutes

*Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore: 2 hours and 20 minutes
*Tahquamenon Falls State Park: 3 hours and 20 minutes

Fire Pit: Yes, there is a small firepit. Guests must provide their own wood.

Fishing License: You can purchase your fishing license online at http://www.mdnr-elicense.com/Welcome/Default.aspx

Grill: We have an outdoor propane grill for your use.

Grocery Store:
Right down Hemlock Street (a 2 block walk) you can find a small convenience store and gas pump in the Oasis building (Peter's Hardware). While there isn't normally large selection, and the prices are convenience-store equivalent, the customer service is top-notch. There is a larger convenience store/BP Gas station (Koski Korners) on the corner of U.S. 41 and MI-95, about 20 minutes North of the Hemlock House. The closest, full-sized grocery store is about a 25 minute drive from the cabin in Ishpeming. It is the IGA Jubilee right along U.S 41. If you are driving from Wisconsin/Chicago, the last grocery store is in Iron Mountain.

Yes, we do accept dogs, yet we do ask that you please clean up after them both inside and outside the cabin. Plus, if you allow them on the furniture, we do ask that you please bring your own linens/blankets for them to sleep on. Pet food does tend to attract mice, so vigilance is needed.

Privacy: Only inside the ½ duplex. The other side is primarily used for storage.

Security Camera: We have 1 outside security camera on the north side of the duplex which faces the door and another which faces the alley to monitor the snow removal. There are no cameras inside or near the outside hot tub.

Nice place but out of the way.
The property was great, internet was adequate for the location and having satellite TV helped. The Hot tub was a little small but it works. If you are staying here to travel to Marquette and back it's about a 70 mile round trip drive. It's doable, you just have to plan ahead and be aware of the gas costs. Great value for the price though and if you want to just get away from everyone this is a good spot.

Fishing trip
My fishing buddy and I did our annual trip to the UP and choose this location. The home more than met our needs, very clean, kitchen was very good, beds were comfortable, and it had Direct TV that gave us some entertainment in the evening after a long day on the lake. It was located in what i would describe as a quiet Blue-Collar neighborhood with a school just down at the end of the street. The only thing that woke me up in the night was some coyote's howling in the neighborhood. I would definitely stay here again.
