About this property
A peaceful, well appointed, dog friendly bach offering fantastic rural views.
Welcome to Burdy's Nest in the gorgeous Bay of Islands.
Our property is set in a rural location located 20 minutes north of Kerikeri, with 2 acres of gardens, fruit orchard, chicken run & a large grass paddock. The bach is a converted studio located at the back of Richard's sail loft with its own private, fully fenced garden – perfect for your pooch to hang out in.
Here are a few basics about Burdys Nest to tempt you to visit us!
• 1 bedroom, private self-contained bach with a large deck and fully fenced enclosed garden. Stunning view over the valley through to Bay of Islands in the distance.
• Comfortably appointed, providing everything you need for your holiday – just bring your own food & you are set to go. We provide all cotton linen, towels, fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, bench top oven, electric frying pan, 2 burner stove top, air fryer, dulce gusto coffee pod machine, fridge with small freezer, BBQ, outside & inside dining, TV with free view & a chrome cast, there is a good selection of DVDs and a library of reading books & magazines for guests to enjoy, I-pod / CD stereo, comfy lounge area, ensuite with shower.
• Free WIFI for guests to check their emails or research the next day’s adventure.
• A house trained, well behaved & friendly dog is welcome to the bach & we hope our labrador Paige makes a new best friend. In order to protect Paige, if your dog is reactive to other dogs we ask that you find alternative accommodation (this is after poor Paige got a bite from a visiting dog ). We ask that you bring their bed with you and to let us know when booking that you are bringing your 4 legged friend with you.
Winter is a great time to visit the ‘Winterless North’. The weather over winter in the north can be gorgeous, with warm t-shirt wearing days and cooler cosy nights. With the heat pump to warm up the bach on those winter nights, we are a perfect place for a winter break.
We should really introduce ourselves – we are the Burdy's as our friends have nicknamed us (our surname being Burdekin). We comprise of Richard (a property manager for a private holiday home) and Kate (does the accounts for a local trucking company) plus Paige (our super friendly golden Labrador) and our brood of pet chooks (who rarely lay any eggs but are lots of fun). We live on the property so usually around to help with directions, advice on where to go to eat etc or generally for a chat.
We look forward to welcoming you up to our slice of paradise.

It was a lovely place to stayBoth Richard Kate was very welcoming and made us feel at home. They set up a fire for us to enjoy toasted marshmallows which was so much fun. Would definitely stay again in the future.
On arrival very welcoming. next day checked everything was ok.Well equipped unit. Very comfortable stay. Our pup was very happy to have her own fenced back yard.A great place to use as base to explore the area,
Burdy's nest was the perfect set-up for us. We (with our dog) were made to feel very welcome which made for a relaxing stay. The kitchen was well equipped making meal times easy. Our dog Myca enjoyed finding the doggy toys, she gave them all good go.
This is an extremely well-equipped bach in a lovely rural setting. The hosts are on-site, very friendly and helpful. For our early Spring visit the very efficient heating and hot water systems were perfect. And we were able to enjoy the great views from a covered front deck even when it was raining! We loved it!
We had a great stay at Burdy's Nest. Perfect for a quiet and relaxing getaway with our dogs. A super, safe garden for them to stretch their legs in and some towels, poop bags and toys unexpected extras. We hope to be back again soon.
Owners are lovely and keep you informed. Had a great welcome when we arrived. Bach was nice and warm for us as was late evening when we got there.
Peaceful outlook from deck and brazier was ready to go for us with marshmallows:)
Will go there again
A great place where we could holiday with our dog. We all felt at home when we arrived. A beautifully presented bach with all you could need. Situated in a good spot to explore the area around Northland.
The bach had everything we needed, very well equipped little kitchen. We loved that we were able to bring our dog on holiday with us. Unsealed road to the bach was very bumpy but fortunately only unsealed for about 4km.

It was lovely to meet you & your daughter - and your gorgeous dog. I'm pleased you had a great time.
It certainly was wild weather at the begining of your holiday. This is why the gravel road was bumpy. Luckily the council came out half way through your stay & graded the 3 km of gravel road so it was smooth again. Its great the road outside our property is tar sealed.
Hope to see you up this again soon.
Beautiful spot with a perfect view looking back toward the Bay of Islands and, far in the distance, Russell. The place was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully stocked — from an air fryer to dog towels, everything we needed was right there. We stayed for four nights and enjoyed perfectly slow, lazy mornings before heading out to explore Tutukaka and Cape Reinga. We chose this accommodation because it’s dog-friendly, and it was perfect for our small 9kg doggo to join us on this road trip. We met Richard on check-in — super warm and friendly. He showed us around and explained everything clearly.Even though the accomodation is right next to the main house, we never saw or heard them. The lush jasmine hedges between the houses added a beautiful touch and a great sense of privacy.Would love to be back. Highly recommend!

We should really introduce ourselves – we are the Burdys as our friends have nicknamed us (the Burdekins). We comprise of Richard (a canvas maker who works from the workshop at home making marine canvas, drop curtains, shade sails etc) and Kate (who does the accounts, marketing & tea making for the canvas company) plus Paige (our 7 year old golden Labrador). We live on the property so usually around to help with directions, advice on where to go eat or generally for a chat.
Burdys nest was an established holiday accommodation until 6 years when we had a change of lifestyle & went to work in Russell, BOI. We are now home & look forward to welcoming guests again to Burdys Nest.
