It doesn’t get any better than a huge home in a great location! Your group is going to love it here. We’re just a couple of blocks from St. Charles Avenue, on the streetcar and Mardi Gras parade route. We’re also close to the French Quarter, the Superdome, the Central Business District, and the Convention Center. And just a hop, skip, and a jump from legendary Bourbon St. in the French Quarter!
This gorgeous 150-year old home was totally renovated in 2020 to offer all the latest modern amenities, while also maintaining the home’s historic character.
Both living rooms offer tall, airy ceilings and an abundance of natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Living room #1 has a cozy Chesterfield sofa set in soothing neutral gray, in front of a wall-mounted TV. Living room #2 has a comfy sectional and large corner TV. Both have convenient tables for drinks and snacks.
Both kitchens have been completely updated, featuring stainless steel appliances and solid surface counters. Both have generous counter and cabinet space. Kitchen #1 is great room style, incorporated with the living space, while kitchen #2 is in a separate room.
Dining room #1 is also great room style, with seating for 4 at a peninsula bar and an additional two at an eat-in table. Dining room #2 is a separate room, featuring a table and seating for 6.
All 8 bedrooms feature queen-size beds, with the exception of one small bedroom with a twin. Each side of the double offers two full baths.
Please note that all bedrooms are “shotgun-style”. This is a typical New Orleans style of architecture, in which you have to walk through each bedroom to get to the next.

The Neighborhood:
This house is located at the lower end of Uptown, just above the New Orleans Central Business District, on the "lakeside" of St. Charles Avenue. It has been vital in the city's brass band and Mardi Gras Indian traditions. The "Main Street" of the area is Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, formerly known as the Dryades Street commercial district for over 100 years. It is a nationally accredited Main Street, as well as a member of the Louisiana Main Streets Network, as well as a Louisiana Cultural District.

The Lower Garden District is famous for its parks, restaurants, and history!

The area was originally developed between 1832 and 1900 and is considered one of the best-preserved collections of historic mansions in the Southern United States. The 19th-century origins of the Garden District illustrate wealthy newcomers building opulent structures based upon the prosperity of New Orleans in that era.

This whole area was once a number of plantations, including the Livaudais Plantation. It was sold off in parcels to mainly wealthy Americans who did not want to live in the French Quarter with the Creoles. It became a part of the city of Lafayette in 1833, and was annexed by New Orleans in 1852. The district was laid out by New Orleans architect, planner, and surveyor Barthelemy Lafon.

Originally the area was developed with only a couple of houses per block, each surrounded by a large garden, giving the district its name. In the late 19th century, some of these large lots were subdivided, as uptown New Orleans became more urban. This has produced a pattern for much of the neighborhood: of any given block having a couple of early 19th-century mansions surrounded by "gingerbread"-decorated late Victorian period houses. Thus, the "Garden District" is now known for its architecture more than for its gardens per se.

Getting Around:
Very close to St Charles Streetcar. Very short Lyft/Uber rides to French Quarter.

Walking distance to downtown, close to St Charles. Very quick Uber or Lyft to get you to the French Quarter!

With a walkability score of 89, there’s no need to rent a car for your stay. The streetcar line passes four blocks from the house to take you through the Garden District, Uptown, and the French Quarter. Connecting to other streetcar lines, you can also access City Park and the Marigny.

For everything else you can easily walk or take a short Lyft.

Other Things to Note:

Misleading property
The property was misleading. Very old property, TV’s did not work after 10pm. The water in the bathroom was unable to turn off, plumber had to come and repair. We were unable to shower for hours and missed our scheduled tour. The location was okay, close to the French Quarters, however the neighborhood was a little scary. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience.

Covid Mardi Grad
From the very beginning, this experience was excellent. We booked the house many months before Mardi Gras, not knowing if it would actually happen. They were very flexible with us on the dates and stayed in constant communication which was excellent. The house is huge and comfortable. The beds were very cozy. The neighborhood is a little edgy, but we had no trouble at all. It is New Orleans after all and it’s very colorful. The location was convenient to Tulane, uptown, the Garden District and the CBD. Parking was always readily available. We had a rare cold snap and power outage briefly, and management was quickly in touch with us.I would definitely recommend staying in this house and I will consider at myself in the future.

Nice place
The house faces a semi-busy street, so there is some traffic noise as it's on a bus line. Across the street are some abandoned buildings, so not great street appeal, but we didn't feel unsafe. The unit is nice inside, with recent updates. Host sent easy instructions on access. If you're looking for something urban, not a bad choice
