About the host
Hosted by 7 Bridges Rentals - Gary and Dawn Socola
My grandparents came to the US in 1903 and 1908. After living in Illinois, and Alabama, they moved to New York and purchased our original family farm in November of 1934. My father grew up there and over the years, his family struggled to pay the high property taxes that NY is known for. In order to continue to pay taxes, they would split off a small portion of the farm, build a cabin on it and sell it in order to keep the remainder of the farm going.
I grew up down the road on a farm my parents purchased after being married on February 18th, 1950. Six children were raised on this farm and my brother still lives there to day.
I didn't want the life of a farmer. I love farming and farmers but I saw the long days, 7 days a week my parents worked to support a family of 8. I wanted to travel and see different parts of the US and the world. I headed off to college in Rochester NY and went to school full time and worked a full time night job to pay my tuition. On weekends, I had a 2nd job and working both allowed me to graduate debt free and with a background/work ethic to be an engineer who worked on CAT Scans/MRI's until a work accident left me permanently partially disabled. I was out of work 18 months & told I'd never work again but coming from tough Polish stock, that wasn't an option. So I joined a start up company in Rochester and was employee number 5. We took this company to being in the Rochester Top 100 private companies and also grew it to over 100 employees before it was sold to a public company in 2012.
That's the year (2012) that my lovely wife & I started our own company in Rochester. We began with 12 employees and have 30 now. Getting closer to retirement & not always trusting the stock market, we decided to diversify and invest in the area I grew up. The first thing we did was purchase the cabins which were part of the original family farm and we are renovating these so you too can enjoy the history & beauty of this area.

Why they chose this property
This cabin is not too big and not to small. Its perfect for a family of 4 allowing sleeping in three separate areas. However, it can also be shared by two couples or a larger family and can accommodate up to six (6) guest in total.
This cabin is very private and secluded. If you love openness and gazing at an infinite amount of stars in the sky, this is the cabin for you.
There are many brand new items so you can just enjoy your stay without any hiccups or problems. This is the second of the five cabins we are in the middle of renovating and the location is perfect for a weekend get away, a romantic encounter or a week or two vacation.
We recently had WiFi added to the cabin so you can plug in and plug out from society whenever you choose.
My wife and I come from blue collar families. Her Dad was a contractor and mine a farmer. We love this area and its rich scenic and rural culture and didn't want to see the countryside be bought up for developments and therefore were willing to take a chance by investing our savings in to restoring these wonderful rural cabins and cottages I grew up around and in.
We are 3rd generation owners of our families property and we hope to pass it down to our children so they can be 4th generation stewards of the land. We now have five grand kids, so who knows, we hope it can be passed on to the 5th generation when they are old enough.
The property is in the middle of the Finger Lakes with so many activities only minutes away and being in the area I grew up in, we believe it important to share this area with the rest of the world.

What makes this property unique
A tin roof is wonderful to listen to when its raining and the pine interior very welcoming. There's bamboo hard wood flooring in both bedrooms and tile in the bathroom for a very comfortable and homey feel. Sit in front of the fire pit with a glass of wine or beer and talk over the days events before cooking a nice dinner on the grill before retiring for a restful nights sleep.
Our cabins are in the middle of the Finger Lakes with so many activities only minutes away, why stay in a hotel when you can have your own cabin for the same or a lower price.
