Home away from home
Really nice, comfortable place to visit with family and friends. Everything as described, in good condition and well stocked-they had everything you could think of. Host was easy to communicate with. Plenty of outdoor space, the dogs loved the pasture area.

Cozy
We enjoyed our stay. It was very close to our youngest son’s home. Our entire family came to visit in Lenexa and your home provided the rooms needed and was only a mile away from where the rest of the family was.

Country Delight
Two dads, two sons, and another player enjoyed our stay for a baseball tournament at Creekside. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the country setting. Everyone had their own space, plus we had a blast grilling out and playing the boys in a fun game game of wifle ball on the front lawn. We would not hesitate to stay here again in the future.

About the host

Hosted by Lynn Hager

Host profile image
I lived on this property for 10 years before moving back to Taos, NM. I had returned to Kansas City, my birthplace, to assist my elderly mother. I have always been a person who appreciated rural areas so this house fit the bill.
Journalism has been my career and I worked as a correspondent for the Kansas City Star. I had formerly worked for newspapers and magazines in Oregon, California, New Mexico and Colorado. While in Kansas City, I took up painting. My mother was an artist and encouraged me to join a studio in the West Bottoms area of the city. I subsequently participated in shows in the KC Arts District and other venues.
When my husband and I are not in Taos or Kansas City, we let wanderlust take over, and travel in our motorhome. Our idea originally was to visit all national parks. But we seem to be moving slowing. We have stayed many places in the Southwest and traveled up the West Coast, relishing it all.
In 2013, I published a book called Finding Home: How Americans Prevail, about the various iterations of what "we" call home, with interviews of people who were working their way back from displacement.

Why they chose this property

Friends owned this property and were moving to Seattle. I had been looking for a house in a spacious setting, not too far from my Mother's house. I really fell in love with the gentle view from the house, of rolling hills and trees. My neighbors are the best and have the same feeling about this special pocket of West Lenexa.
The property used to be part of a farm. The soil is rich. I enjoyed growing a vegetable garden as well as flowers. Tomatoes, tomatoes and more tomatoes!
The location of the house is convenient without sacrificing that rural feeling.
I come back often to visit family and friends. The most magic is in the summer when the fireflies overwhelm the garden.

What makes this property unique

Firefly is an idyllic setting, particularly in the spring, summer and fall. To me, a native of the area, it is countryside at its best. The home, an earth contact house, has a great southwest-facing aspect for solar gain. I added lots of windows and skylights to make the house light and airy. Saltillo tiles give the living and dining rooms an earthy feel.
Now that an acre is fenced, it is doubly useful. I can invite horses to the pasture. There is an apple orchard in season with nice "organic" apples. (Well, a few holes.) I like the seclusion one feels when hanging around the place. Relaxing and private.
