South Melbourne is a sprawling inner-city suburb well-connected with the rest of the city via numerous tram lines. It’s a popular dining hub, thanks to its restaurants and coffee shops along Clarendon Street and in the surrounding streets. The neighbourhood offers a more tranquil atmosphere with its small parks and local markets, but is still only 10-20 minutes from the cosmopolitan dining, late-night entertainment and international shopping in the city’s central and riverside neighbourhoods.

Good location, nice feel
The house was nice, a little dark inside. Kitchen had almost nothing, no chopping boards or any supplies. It would have been good to have been warned about street road works, just outside the house. Garden table was not clean. A very good area and good cafes around.

Unsafe
Electrical issues, toilet broken with in 36 hours of checking in. Not repaired. Unable to use downstairs heater due to Power was tripping, unable to use bathroom heat as nowhere to plug in. Unable to use beside lamp as damaged wobbly and flickering, unable to use second beside lamp as nowhere to plug it in. Contacted company with no reply or acknowledgement, definitely feel ripped off after paying $2500. Feeling very unheard with no action taken after email was sent. Truly don’t like raging people out always try to resolve first. Sadly no one has replied to us, after phoning and emailing.

Could have been perfect
Let's start with the positives: a lovely Victorian terraced house with many original features; fantastic location, close to trams, CBD, South Melbourne Market, Albert Park, but also a quiet, charming family neighborhood; two adequate bathrooms with lots of hot water; comfy beds; nice linens and towels; two good reception rooms with quality furniture and lovely new area rugs. Now, the negatives: shabby, poorly equipped kitchen with an uncleaned oven and cabinets that were literally falling apart.; doors that were broken or very hard to use (pantry door and pocket door between bedroom and bathroom); outdoor area at the back that was overrun with weeds, littered with last year's dead leaves and cigarette butts and so neglected that we had to remove layers of cobwebs off the outside furniture and scrub it before we could even sit down. Oh, and don't look up (the cleaners obviously hadn't), the vent in the upstairs bathroom was covered in a black disgusting grime. Couple of other things, the temperature dial for the oven was faulty, we bought an oven thermometer so we could use the oven and left it behind (you're welcome), there was no bread knife, we bought one and left it behind (again, you're welcome). The trash bin was full when we arrived because the guy from the management company had been putting it out in the wrong place - so we had nowhere to put our trash. The management company was slow to respond and when it did tended to send generic responses that did not address the issue. Such a shame because this is a lovely house in a great location. It just needs someone to love it, update the kitchen, take a bit more care with the details and it could be perfect.

Great location and space
The house has been nicely renovated. It could do with some TLC. It was great to have small outdoor spaces - courtyard, front and rear verandahs. There are many young families and it was great to hear the laughter and games as they were out walking or playing on the footpath. There was plenty of space and proximity to South Melbourne Market made for a short stroll (800m) and impressive array of products and services. Ensure that you tee up the parking permit prior to staying. I left early as the permit was never provided and there is on-street parking restrictions of 2 hours per day Monday to Saturday. A bit of a tidy up and provision of permit and it would have been four out of 5. p.s. lovely fruiting lemon tree in backyard.
