What we loved:
The location is great! This house is in a quiet area in South Nags Head. You can glimpse the ocean and hear the surf. It's a short 4-block walk to the public beach access. The house adjoins undeveloped land, and the view toward the sound is lovely from the deck/main living area.
We loved the hottub, located on the covered upper deck. The cover is a bit awkward, but it's a nice tub in a great location and well maintained. You can even see Bodie lighthouse while you tub!
The main living area is spacious and comfortable, with a sleeper sofa that wasn't mentioned in description. The kitchen is also spacious with all the expected equipment. The fridge has an icemaker, and there was even a blender.
The four bedrooms were comfortable, but not fully as described on VRBO. This house actually has 3 Q beds and 1 K bed (no bunks). Bedroom 1 is actually a King, with access to the lower deck. Bed was comfortable but comforter was dirty and we had to wash it. Bedrooms 2 & 3 were as pictured. Note that BR 3 has its bed very close to the wall. BR 4 (not in pictures) was also Q bed, and felt spacious.
The 2 full "hall baths" are actually ensuite and accessed from the bedrooms. BR 1 & 4 share a bath with typical tub/shower combo. BR 2 & 3 share a shower-only bath.
What needs some work:
This place really needs a deep clean. The upholstered furniture in the living area is grimy and needs a thorough steam-clean. There are some wall/ceiling areas where you can see blobs of dust clinging to the rough surface. Wood furniture/railings are kinda grimy too, and need a soapy-water wash. Washing machine apparently was hooked to hot/cold backwards, as temp dial was marked opposite with marker, but that just means all the rinse temps are now HOT! HVAC air filters hadn’t been changed in 6 months. When we arrived, many outside lights and inside stairwell lights were out, and it was 2 days before they were replaced. There were also problems with door handles that we had to have repaired. Realty company gave us landline phone number for this house that no longer has a landline – oops! “Welcome kit” of paper towels & similar was not left for us as indicated by Realty co. There were some missing rungs on deck rails around hottub with nails left sticking out at places where you might put a hand on them.
We had a great trip despite shortcomings. But with just a little TLC, Awesome D would be fully awesome and a 5-star property.
