"Wilderness" is a modern mountain retreat just three miles south of Breckenridge, in the Town of Blue River. Unlike many properties in the area, it is easily accessed from Highway 9 and only a five minute drive to Main Street dining/shopping and ski resort gondola parking.
Wilderness is a high efficiency, green design by Blu Homes (as featured in Dwell magazine) completed in 2009. The property is located on a quiet road, spaciouswith dramatic feature of its open floor plan, are the twenty foot ceilings, and walls of windows that truly bring nature into the main living space - and is complemented by the modern finish and furnishings found throughout.
Wilderness guests will enjoy a fully equipped chef's kitchen, complete with Bosch appliances and large prep island/breakfast bar. The custom dining table seats ten comfortably, and the breakfast bar seats four. Guests will love the outdoor space with ample seating and views of the spruce and aspen forest. The outdoor gas fireplace is a wonderful gathering spot year round, and an oversized hammock and kids sandbox are welcomed additions for the summer months.
Wilderness also offers a new outdoor spa or hot tub for our guests to work out the kinks of your ski or cycle day! The outdoor living space was not compromised by the addition, as an extension to the concrete patio was constructed to accommodate this new amenity.
Wilderness has three large bedrooms: master (one king), guest (one queen), bunk room (four twins), plus an open loft area for wildlife viewing. It offers one full bathroom located near the guest sleeping quarters (with full size HE washer/dryer) and an en suite bathroom in the master bedroom with large shower. Four adults and four children are comfortably accommodated in the bedrooms.
Wilderness is outfitted with two HD TVs, full premium cable channels, Xfinity DVR, and a Boston Acoustic sound system in the main living space. The loft area also has a desk with LCD monitor for connecting laptop if work is in order, and the entire home is served by high speed wireless Internet with Xfinity.
Its dramatic contemporary design, comfortable living spaces and convenient location, will make your stay at Wilderness a truly unique Breckenridge experience for the entire family.

Awesome place!
My daughter and her wedding party recently stayed at this rental and it was perfect! We got so many comments on what a great place it was and Sarah couldn't have been more helpful. Backyard was perfect for entertaining - we had the family over for dinner Friday evening and the setting was great. Thanks for a perfect weekend - would definitely come back again!

Amazing getaway while being close to Breck
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Wilderness. The feeling of seclusion while being only minutes from Breck was exactly what my family needed. The house was stocked incredibly well - lots of towels, kitchen essentials and wifi. The hot tub was a huge hit as was the firepit. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I brought my mother and father in law for an extended weekend getaway this month. The property was exactly as advertised and exceeded our expectations. Clean, bright, open, and well appointed. We saw two fox during our stay and enjoyed an array of birds, as well. The owner was a true pleasure to interact with and always available. Location is perfect for exploring Breck, Dillon, Frisco, Vail, and beyond. We could not have had a better trip. Thank you so match for opening your home to us!

Memories made for a lifetime
I don’t normally leave reviews, but because of the kindness of our host Sarah and the cabin I just had to let others know how amazing this place was. My family and I stayed here for a family reunion and were blow away with how everything looked just like it did in the pictures. 8 of us adults stayed very comfortably for 3 days. We were able to save money by cooking and grilling at the house and just enjoying the mountain air. A couple of us even climbed up the mountain hill right in the backyard. Nights were spent laughing and talking around the fire and hanging out in the hot tub. My family and I will be back to make more memories. Thanks again!

We loved it, and felt like we were right in the forest!
This is a beautiful, clean, nicely decorated, modern house about a 5 minute drive from downtown Breckenridge. We loved the back yard with a sandbox for the grandkids to play in, the hammock, the hot tub, the fire pit (fun for roasting marshmallows!), and the forest and mountainside right at the end of the back yard. We were a family group of 4 adults and 2 children, and there was ample space for all of us. The owner was so easy to work with, and they went out of their way to be helpful. The kids had fun seeing the chipmunks in the back yard, and one morning we spotted a fox as well. The owner has made it kid-friendly with lots of books and games and toys. I would highly recommend this home if you are looking for a peaceful, more secluded property away from the hustle and bustle of the town, yet you are close enough to be able to quickly drive into town for restaurants, shopping, and activities.

Online this property looks amazing, in reality it is not as clean as it should be. The dishwasher was broken upon arrival, dishes in the cupboard were dirty which we had to rewash by hand, the showerheads were old and dirty, the washer had mold stains on the rubber ring, the utensil drawers were disorganized, the back yard was full of dandelions not natural ground. We ended up cutting our trip short by one night (without any refund) bc the home owner couldn’t tell us why her alarm was going off, seriously concerned it was gas. More worrisome, she didn’t know what alarm we were referring to. Location is convenient, great trail behind the house with bear sightings.

In response to your feedback Ryan here, and when I reached out to you via phone and VRBO, you had already departed the property prior to being able to investigate the matter further. Upon immediate investigation after you departed, it was identified as I explained in a follow up message that this was a safety alarm for the septic system. A septic company inspected everything and found that the alarm simply needed to be adjusted only, and all in excellent working order, as far as the septic system. The Nest alarms are hardwired, and would have alarmed me remotely if there was a leak of gas, and as I understand, these alarms never went off. As far as the dishwasher, it does work as confirmed by housekeeping as well as myself after a load was run, it was confirmed dishes were clean, dry, drained, and cycle fully completed. I’m sorry but I wish you would have had contacted me while you were there, so I could walk through how to use the dishwasher, but after I called you were already heading home. As far as the rubber ring in the clothes washer, this is something that just with time will stain the rubber, but it will be replaced and appreciate you mentioning it. Note it was cleaned prior to your stay with Chlorox by me, as well as housekeeping routinely. I'm sorry to hear the utensil drawers were disorganized. I have many cooking utensils provided at Wilderness, and will work with Housekeeping to ensure these are better organized. The yard is a challenge in the mountains I agree that the dandelions needed to be addressed. Since property is a bit in the wild it's a challenge to keep the wild from growing and I have since had the back mowed post your stay, and mowing and weeds removed routinely. I’m sorry to hear of the challenges during your stay and appreciate the constructive feedback. Thank you for the positive feedback on convenient location and glad you discovered the hidden trail in the back, and wildlife spottings. Thanks, Sarah
We originally booked our stay in March of 2019 for a girls trip. We were so excited for a weekend getaway, relaxation, and some skiing. Unfortunately a big snow storm had different plans for us and canceled all of our flights. We were beyond disappointed that our weekend was canceled and we were out the money for our stay. However Sarah, the home owner, made the sting a little less by allowing us to rebook for another weekend during non-ski season (October). The house is exactly how it looks in the pictures, very clean, and the location is perfect, Secluded yet close enough to town. While we did not get the chance to ski we were able to see some snow and enjoy the hot tub. The only complaint other than our original booking being canceled (which was out of everyone’s control) is the beds are not overly comfortable, however that is nothing an extra glass of wine couldn’t fix. Over all we were very pleased with our stay and would love to return back for a ski weekend. Thank you Sarah for being so kind and allowing us to rebook and still get our trip in.
This property is well thought out, clean and beautifully decorated and designed. It had everything we needed. The back yard was wonderful you really feel at peace in this house.
Beautiful home. Loved backing up to the national forest. One day, we saw 5 different moose! It was incredible!!! Very well equipped for small children -- our 18 month old granddaughter had everything she needed, including toys, books, a high chair, etc. We had a great time! Close enough to Breck to enjoy everything there without actually staying in the city.

Eye candy everywhere! This cabin had such a wonderful layout for our family of six. The kids loved the bunk room with all of the toys and books. It was so helpful having a pack and play and high chair on site already! We had the best time in Breck and surrounding areas...be sure to drive up to see Blue Lake by Quandry!

Beautiful property, worked great with a big group!
At first we thought our big group of 12 would not fit comfortably in this home, but we were so wrong! Very spacious family room and kitchen area with plenty of seating for all. Also, plenty of bed space for everyone to sleep comfortably. Extremely nice modern home, that at the same time has the cabin feel you look for in the mountains! Never wanted to leave it was just the perfect place. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Family Ski Vacation
We shard the house with another family of four and never felt cramped. The house was well-appointed with lots of dishes and other supplies and was in a good location not too far from town. The only bummer was the lack of an indoor fireplace to warm up to after a day on the slopes. Would definitely recommend to others.

Beautiful property, perfect location! A ton of fun and memories made with the kids!
We spent our Thanksgiving here and couldn’t have been happier! This property has a beautiful combination of a rustic yet modern feel! Perfect location within minutes of downtown Breckenridge yet still gives you the feeling of being secluded in the wilderness! We got PLENTY of snow while in the area and the kids really enjoyed playing in the back yard. A true winter wonderland! The home itself was very clean and well kept and the property owner was super nice and easy to work with from the beginning! Plenty of room for kids and adults to enjoy time away! Don’t miss out on this gem!

About the host
Hosted by Sarah Jeffords
Sarah and I are proud parents of a five year old daughter, are avid skiers, hikers and enjoy Breckenridge and Summit County year round.
Why they chose this property
We love the proximity to Breck for sure (skiing, dining, nightlife, etc), and easy access from Hwy 9, but also it's relative isolation, and the natural beauty of the property.
Wilderness is an example of modern architecture that you don't find often in the area - it's simple, functional, efficient... and absolutely stunning.
Why don't they build them all this way?
What makes this property unique
Architecturally interesting home, adjacent to NFS land, with trail access.
Proximity to multiple top ski resorts (Breckenridge, Keystone, A-Basin, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek)
Nature, views, wildlife (numerous fox, moose, elk and bear sitings in backyard).
