About this property
Artist's Home by Bald Mtn, river. Walk to ski, fish, hike, bike, eat, theatres +
Casually-elegant, cozy and dramatic, this dog-friendly (2+yrs, certain breeds, neutered, vaccinated, pre-approved, extra fee), non-smoking, Artist's 2-story log-constructed home w/garage and fenced organic trout-friendly garden is in a quiet wooded GREAT location year-around! MERV-13 filter on new gas central air furnace enhances air quality & blocks tiny smoke and virus particles. The cleaning fee varies by the number of guests (and pet).
Walk 5-10 minutes on the Big Wood riverside path or ski/bike trail to Sun Valley Bald Mountain River Run Resort with gondola, lifts, trails, day lodge. Anglers and dogs can relish the nearby river's trout-fishing and wading spots. Gardeners, older kids and well-behaved dogs may appreciate the fenced organic garden (no pesticides - ever!), berries and cherry tree.
This artfully-furnished home is convenient to all town amenities and activities, indoors and out - 1/2 to 1 mile to theatres, restaurants, bars, galleries, shops, parks, the fabulous Y (swim, yoga,+). Paired with just one other home in a duplex building (not a high-density complex!) with trees and gardens all around, each is privately owned and quietly enjoyed (no commons) on a residential street with no through traffic . Hear the river at night!
Two bedrooms, a den/loft, and two full baths, plus a "bonus" room in the attached garage, can accommodate up to 6 guests in 3-4 beds. Savor wonderful mountains and tree views from every room. Setback from the street, the driveway can accommodate 3 cars in addition to the one-car garage, even in snowy Winter.
From the ground-level entry, step into dramatic vaulted 2-story living & dining areas with spectacular river-rock gas fireplace. Teak and leather furnishings and owner's fine-art photographs + other Idaho and Montana artists' beautiful wood sculptures and paintings portray casual elegance with a nature and wildlife theme.
The large kitchen should please most holiday cooks and its counter seating enhances cozy breakfast, tea or wine sharing in social gatherings, while extending meal seating beyond the 6-person teak dining table.
A 50" flatscreen HD TV may be viewed from dining, living and kitchen areas. A separate TV upstairs allows multiple program choices. Basic cable TV, internet and WiFi services are provided.
The downstairs Queen bedroom with extended area (and new twin bed) faces and offers a doorway into the private tree-lined garden with picnic table and side porch (new in 2015), with peaceful and unobstructed views of Baldy mountain .
Upstairs is a King bedroom and full bath. There is also an open den/loft with Queen Japanese bed (opens onto floor), TV and comfy leather recliner - and VIEWS!
Some breeds of adult (2+yrs) neutered, well-mannered dogs with "credentials" (health and pest treatment verified) may be welcome, with pre-approval and EXTRA FEE.
Welcome to my mountain home!

Why they chose this property
This area has it all while very quiet and uncrowded. I love my peaceful wooded residential neighborhood on a low-traffic street by the ski mountain and river, with most town amenities only 5-10- minutes away!
The river-rock gas (new) fireplace reminds me of wonderful times spent in the Appalachians, notably the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (great for much but not for snow-skiing)!
I sought/bought a mountain "cabin in the woods" near a river, mountain sports and wildlife, with great pro-quality music, art, theatres, library and nice people.
My Ketchum cabin is perfect: I can walk quickly to ski, river, hike, bike, with food, galleries, theatres, yoga close by I have a large organic garden area (I've planted over 30 trees) with a fenced area for dogs & privacy. Two free-bus stops are very near. Everything I seek is quickly and easily accessed! West Ketchum is highly-appreciated by locals, for its location by the river and Bald mountain.
I learned to swim in a mountain stream and to fish and canoe in rivers and lakes. I grew up in a cultured University very-wooded town where "a river runs through it", with great music, theatre, arts and sciences (and a famous National Lab nearby). I later added snow-skiing, fly-fishing, piloting small aircraft & sailing to hiking, biking, river and ocean sports.
There is so much in this region to enjoy - it's a wonderland! The nearby 730,864-acres SNRA includes a large wilderness, with Swiss-Alps-like Sawtooth mountains, lakes, rivers and wildlife, where one can really escape into nature.
Take easy day trips to Silver Creek Preserve (famous for fly-fishing and wildlife including moose), Craters of the Moon monument, and Galena summit & beyond to the Salmon river, Redfish Lake and Stanley. For longer adventures, continue N thru a spectacular canyon along the river to North Fork, a nice retreat within a day's drive, or on to Glacier National Park & Flathead Lake.
