About this property

NEW!!! Gazebo on private lake - Nature & Solitude

The Stonefield Estate Gazebo is nestled between 100 + acres of beautiful woodlands, meadows and a pristine private lake. Breathe in the fresh air, reconnect with nature and give your body and soul a well deserved break. Let the peeper frogs lull you to sleep and the distant call of the loons be your wake up call.
Enjoy nature with many comforts of home plus canoes & kayak for exploring the lake.
The space
The gazebo is set up with a beautiful and luxurious bed for you to rest your head on after a long day of exploring and enjoying the lake. There is a table inside for you to have your meals, or you may choose to eat outside near the fire pit or screened in deck area. There is a comfy couch and place to hang your jackets. There are beautiful LED candles all around to set the mood and a lantern for reading and getting around at night. The screened in area has a long couch with lots of pillows and room to stretch out. It also has a cabinet that contains dishes and cutlery, cups, glasses, BBQ utensils, a kettle, a French press for coffee lovers, salt, pepper and sugar. The ultra chic outhouse has a foot pump sink, towels, soap and toilet paper. There is also a shower area attached to the outhouse with a shower mechanism for you to rinse off with.

Guest access
The property is extremely private and the general public do not have access to any parts of the property. The entrance of the property has stone walls and big wooden gates that are always closed to give our guests the utmost privacy. You will be greeted at the gates and shown how to access and where to park.
Other things to note

Although we live on the 100 + acre property we are up the road about a kilometre away. We value and respect the privacy of our guests, so you will most likely not see us unless you require assistance from us.

Want to pack light? Get all your BBQ needs in town just 10 minutes North of us. There are 2 coolers on site for you to keep all your goods fresh.

PLEASE NOTE: This retreat does not have electricity. This is a beautiful opportunity to reconnect with nature and yourselves, disconnect from the grid and stresses of everyday life. This is camping stepped up a notch or two. Okay maybe a dozen notches. It's a pretty special place and a one of a kind experience.
However, a small, silent portable power station is available to guests should they want one handy for charging phones, laptops and small electrical devices.

The use of the property and gazebos is for the TWO registered guests only! Bringing in anyone that is not associated with your booking is completely prohibited.

Please treat our beautiful sanctuary with respect. There is a garbage bin with garbage bags for you to use. Please do not throw any garbage into our pristine lake. Do not leave any food items out in screened in area, as it will attract animals. Please use the 2 coolers provided or bring food items into the gazebo over night. Smoking is prohibited on the property.
If you wish to light a fire, please only light SMALL fires for ambience or roasting marshmallows. You are free to gather your own firewood around the area. There is a propane BBQ for you to use to cook your meals. Please turn off the gas when not in use.
There are 2 lounge chairs bolted to the raft for you. Just unfold them when you get there and fold them back up when leaving the raft. Please remember to close the umbrella as well or it might end up in the lake if the wind picks up.
When entering or leaving the property, please close the gates. Make sure the pin on the right leaf of the gate is in the designated hole or the wind will blow open the gates.

***This property is an animal-free zone due to SEVERE allergies. Please don't ask if you can bring your dog, cat etc, or try to sneak them in. This applies to service animals as well unfortunately. Just because different terms are used to describe the same thing, a dog is a dog etc, whether it is your pet or a service animal. Although we do sympathize with people who require service animals, my severe allergies do not know the difference and I do not want to die. Our property is exempt from domestic animals entering the grounds, we ask that you please respect this.

We also have deer and other creatures that live around the gazebos. The scent of a dog or other animal would scare them off, fundamentally changing the nature of the experience and impacting it for other guests.

Outstanding Gazebo!!
This was quite the experience and better than camping in a tent. The grounds were beautiful and our place was so peaceful and romantic. The only concern I had, was that there was no running hot water. Overall, Sonia and her family were amazing hosts and we thank you for great experience.

Why they chose this property

Historical Significance of the property
When we first saw the property we were awestruck by its beauty and allure. We were captured by the natural springs, river and stream. It wasn't until after the deal closed that we found out that we also had a lake. What an incredible surprise and gift. It also wasn't until much later that we learned about the historical significance of this special place.
It turns out that our property is part of the Percy Portage, which was an important route used for centuries by the Hurons, Iroquois and Mississaugas. It also formed the basis of the first road in the region in the early 19th century for settlers an those heading north. Samuel de Champlain used this portage in September 1615 when he travelled south with his Huron and Algonquin allies on their way to upstate New York. In the 1970's, a group of students from Trent University retraced and marked the route by adding orange metal markers to some of the trees along the way. Some of them are still present today.

A few steps away from the Gazebo you will find a small dock with a canoe, a kayak, paddles and life jackets. If you paddle out to the middle of the lake you will find a raft with 2 lounge chairs and an umbrella on it. Bring some drinks and snacks, because once there, you will not want to leave. Our curious loons will no doubt swim up close to say hello. Enjoy!

What makes this property unique

This is truly a magical place! You will feel it once you are here. There is so much energy and wildlife on the property from beavers, otters and muskrats, deer, wild turkeys, foxes, osprey and loons just to name a few. Experience the lulling sound of the peeper frogs in the spring, or the forest light up at night with fireflies in July, or forage for mushrooms in the fall. There is always something going on and it's incredible to experience.
