Hidden Valley Getaway, more commonly known as "The Winery", was once a working vineyard/ winery, known as the Hidden Valley Vineyard.
The winery building was built in 1999 out of straw bales. Current owners, and your hosts, Bridget and Jono Hartnell (who live onsite) have recently converted this characteristic building into a fully functional, modern and charming house. Spacious in size, this nearly 200 square metre house is the perfect getaway for family and friend groups.
Hidden Valley Homestay offers spacious, comfortable accommodation nestled in the peaceful Moiki Valley — just 10km from Martinborough and 12km from Greytown. Enjoy beautiful views of surrounding farmland and native bush reserves while still being close to town.
The home features:
-Three bedrooms
-Large main lounge
-Separate games room / second lounge
-Fully equipped kitchen
-Bathroom with separate toilet
The kitchen includes a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, full oven, and all essential cookware and cutlery. Tea, instant coffee, and sugar are provided. The property is otherwise fully self-catered.
Outside, guests can enjoy the BBQ and pergola area — perfect for relaxing and dining outdoors. The BBQ is self-cleaning, so we kindly ask that you leave it as you found it.
Swimming Pool
Guests are welcome to use the hosts’ outdoor swimming pool, located on the property directly next door to the homestay. The pool is shared with the owners (it is not private).
Use is at guests’ own risk. Children must be supervised at all times.
A great place to cool off and unwind on warm Wairarapa days ☀️

Excellent large home about 10 mins drive to Martinborough, perfect for families or groups. Kids loved the games room! Thanks, would definitely stay again!
Was an amazing stay, property was clean and heaps of towels and extra blankets which was great. It had everything we needed and loved the games like corn hole. It was a 10 min drive to Martinborough which was super handy. Would definitely stay again.
We had a lovely weekend in Martinborough. The house is perfectly suited and we'll equipped for a large group. Check in was easy. Definitely recommend!!
A lovely place to stay to enjoy the peace and quiet. Perfectly located to ensure an experience of being away and having a break. Heaps of space to hangout together or just wander off and read a book. Great for kids or adults or both. Highly recommend!
Both families had a fantastic 3 nights at this beautiful property while using it as a base to enjoy the region. Had everything you needed - including linen and towels - for a great stay. Only downside was the heat pump struggles to warm such a large space in winter, but an extra layer on while inside fixes that. Totally recommend for anyone wanting to have a relaxing getaway in a beautiful part of Aotearoa.
Stayed at hidden valley get away with our group of girls for a weekend away. The place was perfect, close to Martinborough for dinners and wineries and everything you’d need in the house
We had a wonderful time over New Years at this lovely property. Great for walks down the rural roads, playing games, cooking and enjoying each others company. Pool table and lawn games were a treat. Beds cosy and great linens. Well appointed, kitchen had what we needed and lots of dishes/cutlery. Thanks so much for having us.
We appreciate that this house had all we needed for two peaceful nights. We played yard games, woke up to peaceful morning watching birds and sheep, cooked some of our meals, and had plenty of sleeping space. We worried that only one bathroom with five folks would feel a little tricky, but we made it work (having an outside door to the toilet room let us utilize the shower/toilet as two separate rooms), and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Communications with the host were prompt, kind, and easy. Would stay here again!
