Stunning timberframe lakehouse with gourmet kitchen

Get away from it all to a luxurious lakefront vacation retreat. Welcome to “The Hut in the Jungle” (yes there is a fun story behind the name), an executive family escape two hours drive from Toronto but a world away. Located on Salmon Lake, near the charming villages of Kinmount and Bobcaygeon, it’s a four-season wonderland. With five bedrooms and three bathrooms and gourmet kitchen, all the luxuries are here waiting for you to relax, unwind, play and explore.
The lake is a Kawartha gem, with crystal clear water and great fishing for bass and lake trout. Explore with the kayaks, paddle boat, canoe and stand-up paddle board. There is excellent swimming right off the expansive floating dock.
In the evening gather around the stone fire pit overlooking the lake.
The lakefront retreat features stunning timber-framing, and vaulted ceilings. There is a large designer gourmet kitchen, well equipped and featuring a six-burner range top and double wall ovens. A large centre island is ideally suited for preparing meals together. An oversized Weber barbecue is provided as well.
The dining room table extends to seat up to 12 people.
The large living room has a vaulted ceiling with a ceiling fan, and is flooded with natural light from high south-facing windows. With panoramic lake views, the room has comfortable leather couches and reclining chairs. The centrepiece is a wood burning stone fireplace.
A 60 foot elevated deck runs the width of the building, with outdoor dining and sitting areas to relax with a drink and a book.
There are five bedrooms with sleeping for 10 adults. If you travelling with babies or small children we can provide a crib and bassinet.
The lovely screened porch with a ceiling fan is a comfortable place to relax or gather and has a futon that converts to an additional queen bed if needed.
A recreation room on the lower level has a walkout to the lake, couches and recliner, and features a large OLED TV with satellite TV and streaming services.
In short, a luxurious escape, not far but a world away.

Great Weekend at the lake

Beautiful Cottage

The property looks just like the photos! The lake is warm and great for swimming in this beautiful area. They even had an inflatable island on the water for us. The kitchen is well-stocked and the bedrooms were clean and quiet. There’s also a fire pit to enjoy in the evening hours. The owners answered all our questions promptly and were very responsive. Would love to go back again.

The property is beautiful, the home is gorgeous. Everything is well maintained. Tons of amenities. The hosts are super gracious and kind. A Trent Lakes gem!

By unanimous vote, the "Hut in the Jungle" (as the cottage is known as) is officially the best one my family has visited in the past several years. The hosts are responsive, and provide detailed information that make the stay easy and enjoyable. Plus a generous welcoming package that is greatly appreciated! The cottage is loaded with amenities that make a large group (12 people) stay very fun and comfortable. Loads of watercraft, and in-water floaties plus a large deck to sunbathe on. The lake itself is gorgeous and pretty quiet. Clean water and decent fishing for the anglers in the group. Definitely on the must return to list!

Love This Place!

This was our second year staying at this amazing cottage. Brian and Mona are so wonderful to deal with. Our family group ages ranged from 20 months to 86 years old. No issues for anyone. The layout of the cottage works so well for us. My children and grandchildren (4 adults and 4 toddlers) take over the lower level and have more than enough room. Everything is organized and well thought out in the kitchen. All the furniture is comfortable for sitting and sleeping. The screened in porch is a lovely place to spend the evening. I highly recommend this cottage!

Proposal Successful at the “Hut In The Jungle”

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we could not stop commenting on the details and care that went into the home and our experience and how maintained the property was. The home was beautifully decorated with personal touches everywhere. It was like being in a cottage magazine. The views were spectacular and the water was perfect for kids and adults alike. Everyone commented how lovely this Great Northern Getaway was and helped me set the stage for my proposal to my now Fiancé. Looking forward to visiting this property in the future.

Fun 35th bday weekend

We had an amazing stay at this cottage on Salmon lake! It was my 35th birthday and we maximized all the beds in the cottage and bunkie - there were 18 of us! There was pleanty of space for this sized group, in the cottage and on the dock. The large floatie was all set up, and we floated all day, and BBQd in the evenings. There was some rain one day, but we didn't feel cramped being inside, there was so much space. Beds were super comfy, and there were robes provided, along with some L'occitaine toiletries ! (a really nice touch). Mona and Brian were super responsive as we had lots of questions about the kitchen and its utilities while we were planning our meals and trip - they answered very quickly and were very helpful. I would 100% stay here again, it was beautiful and the best weekend. Thank you so much!

Amazing Vacation

From the minute we started communicating with Brian and Mona, we knew this was going to be a great experience. We had my family, grandchildren and my mom with us. Age range was from 10 months old to 85 years old. Every last detail was thought of when making this cottage a VRBO listing. The coziness and lay out of the cottage was amazing for our family. Our children and grandchildren were able to have their own space in the basement, therefore felt comfortable when the little ones rose early that no one upstairs was being bothered. The screened in porch was such an added bonus. We spent many evenings there. All the furniture in every room was so comfortable. This place was a 10/10 in our books and we have already booked for next year. Thank you to the hosts for their communication skills and always being ready to answer any question no matter how small. Truly a wonderful vacation was had by all!
