The photos do not do this cottage justice. It is so pretty and well decorated, spacious and clean yet cozy and comfortable. The host was always quick to respond to questions, was gracious, friendly and so helpful. They thought of every need. The property was beautifully landscaped, so peaceful and surrounded by gentle hills and lush trees.
We've stayed at Mimi's cottage several times now - the first being for 6 weeks in 2021. It is an incredible place, private, lots of room for family and dogs and well appointed. The host is fantastic and responsive and it has everything and all the amenities you could want. I couldn't recommend it more for a fantastic stay in Hastings County.
Cute house and comfortable to stay in. Lots of trails to enjoy during nice weather however there isn't a TV for wet weather days. Overall enjoyed my stay.
This is our second stay at this VRBO and it never fails to impress. It’s well stocked, all the amenities that you could want or need. And on a beautiful property with miles of trails to explore. Such a serene stay with family and pets. Would 100% recommend. Mimi is a fantastic host and super responsive.
Gracious hosts with the perfect spot to take in nighttime stars and morning birds.
A few friends and I enjoyed staying at this location while heading to local rivers to kayak. The kitchen is very well supplied which made making meals after a long day outside a breeze. Mimi and Peter were very helpful with all of my questions and were very prompt with their replies. I recommend trying to snag the queen size bed as sleeping on that firm mattress resulted in my first mornings in years without back pain. Evenings were peaceful and mornings were spent on the front porch watching the birds, and giving a local golden retriever some pets.
I highly recommend staying here and we will be sure to book again next year. Thank you.
If you’re looking for a getaway in nature this is a great spot. The 3-bedroom bungalow (plus pull-out couch) is clean, bug-free, air conditioned, and has a lovely front porch and screened-in porch. Plenty of good quality pots, appliances and kitchen needs. Nice fire pit 100m from the cottage. Well-stocked with board games. Fireflies came out at night! On our walks we saw many birds, frogs, and interesting insects. Having a newly-built place to come back to after exploring the trails is a nice balance. As is the case for many cottages there are poisonous plants on the property that we taught our kids to identify; the owners keep trails and grass well-groomed so if you stay on those you’re good. The owners are very transparent, communicative, flexible, and genuinely hope you’ll enjoy your stay. Nearby Madoc has a Foodland grocery store and splash pad/park, and O’Hara Mill was another great space for the kids. It’s much quieter than city life and if that’s what you’re after, you’ll enjoy your time here!
We had an amazing week staying at the cottage. It was super clean and a very comfortable place to destress for a week. The screened-in porch was great - we ate a lot of meals and played a lot of cards out there! My partner spent a lot of glorious time in the hammock, and I loved all the nearby walks.
Owner is friendly, kind and responsive. Country home is well-appointed. Lots of products (ie. bug repellent, cooking oil etc.) left for our use. Close to many great walking trails, as well as Madoc and Tweed. Very beautiful countryside. Altogether a wonderful experience.
Hosts, Mimi and Peter were incredible.
There wAs a lovely fire burning in the wood stove as we arrived.
We will definitely be booking this incredible time away again soon!
This was an wonderfully central location for kayaking at MACK fest. Mimi sent a warm welcoming message with a detailed property description as well as a map of Madoc and local shops. The wood stove warmed our feet and the weber kettle grill helped us grill our steaks to perfection.
Thanks Mimi and Peter!
Thank you, Mimi and Peter for sharing your slice of paradise with us. We had the most restful weekend at your retreat filled with cozy indoor fires, beautiful winter trails where we snowshoed and cross country skiid, and enjoyed all around R&R. A special shout-out to the roaring fire we saw (and smelled) as we arrived!
The place was fully stocked with all the creature comforts and despite a -35 degree forecast outside, the cabin was incredibly insulated and warm- we didn’t feel a thing!
We highly recommend this stay for anyone looking for a serene, private, peaceful getaway, away from hustle and bustle of the city. It’s the perfect place to connect with nature.
Thanks, again!
My friend and I had a lovely weekend at Firefly. Warm fire welcomed us when we arrived. Great space for relaxing, walking, enjoying the stars at night and frosted fields and trees during the day. Beds were comfy and we cooked some great meals easily in the kitchen. Lovely weekend all around.
Firefly Inn was nothing short of magical. Lovely home with everything that you need for a comfortable stay, incredibly private, extensive trails on the property. It’s very well maintained and communication with the host was stellar who was friendly and supportive. Beautiful location, lots to do and local amenities a short drive away. I would definitely rent here again!
We loved our stay in Madoc! The place is beautiful and especially loved the well-stocked kitchen and the sun room. Already looking forward to another trip out here soon!
This place is a real find. The building is clearly very new and is super cozy but with ample kitchen area to cook. The space is very quiet and the perfect place to get away from it all. The property is surprisingly large with access to a large network of trails that are really fun to explore.
Wish there were more places like this out there. Really fantastic stay.
I needed a few days to get away from the busy city life and unplug with my dog. This place was so cozy, spacious, private and lovely. The hiking trails were perfect, my dog was living her best life :). Mimi and Peter were great hosts, Mimi was so quick to respond and attentive/accessible during the entire stay. I loved it here and will be back again with the rest of my family. Couldn’t ask for anything more!
My wife and I loved this property. Can't be seen off the road, which gives a perfect impression of seclusion and privacy. Very communicative and helpful host. Loved the outdoor fire pit and walking trails on the property!
Wonderful Property and a great place to digitally disconnect and enjoy the surrounding nature. Madoc is a lovely village with all that you should need. Hosts are just a text or call away if you need any additional info or guidance. Fond memories made here.
I had a wonderful time here. Clean, spacious, private, cozy, quiet....and fantastic communication with the owners! My dog had an absolute blast running through the fields and on the nice trails. We also found a little beach nearby for a swim. Highly recommend this spot if you would like a peaceful get-away! One of my favourite memories will be sitting on the screened in porch at night watching the fireflies:) Thank you for a wonderful stay!!

Why they chose this property
This property offers serenity and seclusion within easy access of all the amenities you might need to feel comfortable and to relax.
What makes this property unique
On summer nights the fireflies come out in the hay field and perform a light show; their acrobatics give the property its name, Firefly Farm. In winter the chance to lace up cross-country ski boots on the front porch and glide to the manicured forest paths offers a unique celebration of peace and freedom.
