Relaxing

First, this was a last minute booking, due to our inability to stay at our original rental. Becky was responsive to our needs so we could vacate our previous rental without delay. Next, what I loved about this property, and something you do not get very often is the amount of living, relaxing space there is in this rental. Several areas for groups of people to spread out, watch TV, look at the water, play games, often times while there are several bedrooms, there are precious few places for larger groups/families to relax in the evening, and afterall, that is part of the vacation as well. Third, this is beautifully done house/cottage and if you like quaint mixed with modern, this is for you. Wood floors, slanted ceilings upstairs, and beautifully decorated with comfortable furniture, great appliances, and while its not a hotel, the combo of new and old mix great. There is bonus sunroom to watch the water go by, crab pots (we caught several but released them) at the end of the dock, and overall, a quiet easy-going place to stay. Grocery stores nearby for in-home meal prep in the great kitchen/dining area. Sure, not every place is perfect, the lights flicker occasionally, we fixed that by turning off AC units in rooms we were not using, adapt and adjust, this is a everyday home, with the owners close by not a hotel. Book it, you will not be disappointed.

Tricked by the Nice Pictures

This home was relatively new on VRBO and had nice pictures so we were willing to pay a premium, but I don't think it was worth even a third of the price for what you get given all the issues we experienced. The positives were the quiet location with dock for fishing and crabbing as well as the responsive management company. The nice pictures on this listing make the home seem clean and updated when in fact the majority of the house is quite dated and suffering from structural issues, most importantly the faulty electrical wiring. On our first night, the lights constantly flickered and then on the second night, a circuit breaker tripped and could not be reset. This one single breaker controlled all the outlets and lights for nearly the entire house. Given that another guest's review also mentioned electrical issues, this was not an isolated incident and not surprising since the entire home is overloaded on a single circuit. The management company was responsive and drove out at night to help by providing an extra long extension cord, but losing power for an entire night was hugely disruptive. The other review also mentioned smoke detectors constantly beeping throughout the night and we had the same issue. In addition to the electrical problems, we had issues with the doors getting stuck/closing properly, moldy window AC units, and an ant infestation in the kitchen. Quite disappointed with our stay.

Cottage

Cottage is nice but the whole time we were there, there was a loud (every 30 second) beeping inside the house. We think it is the alarm battery dying. It was hard to sleep with this noise. Also, the power kept going out and tripping. It goes dark, really dark. Lastly, the ad or website said there are two paddle boards, one is broken and cannot be used. Couple of visible stains on the mattresses. House is well supplied with towels, which is nice. Overall, okay stay.
