We were really looking forward to spending our Christmas holiday here, and the stay did not disappoint. The home was very nice, comfortable, and welcoming. The host was great — very responsive and quick to reply to our messages. We especially loved the Christmas tree she set up for us and the fresh flowers placed in every room. Those little touches made our stay feel extra special. Highly recommended

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
Highs: location to nearby family, downtown Grass Valley and proximity to Nevada City. Check in was easy, and check out is noon which is nice. Communication with host was quick & efficient. Table was set for Thanksgiving upon arrival - it was very nice. Lows: you get an idea of the decor from the pictures but, there is so much more. Something on every table, counter or open space. We had to clear off many things to make space. Despite all the lamps the house is very dark. Half way through our stay we were tired of reading by our phone light so we went out and bought two lightbulbs. While we were out we bought a kitchen size trash can (the house came with a small bathroom trashcan for the kitchen). TV is very old and very small, in one room. DirecTv didn't work. None of the bedrooms or bathrooms had adequate light. The heater is very loud. The septic was being worked on and there were large warped planks of wood in the driveway. Fridge is old, ice/water didn't work. Dishwasher has buttons missing. It takes a very long time to get hot water, a circulating pump is necessary for a house this size. The house needs a lot of work to be a proper vacation rental.

This guest was impossible to please, nitpicking, critical, complainer. Ive hosted since 2019 with high reviews, and never experienced anything like this. Upon booking she asked for seating for 8 for a Thanksgiving dinner. I agreed and brought in a larger table top and purchased new extra chairs. I even set a beautiful, festive Thanksgiving table for 8 as a nice surprise. I had a bottle of wine, assorted beverages and munchies in the frig with a welcome note...what I would appreciate after a long drive. There were fresh flowers in every room. The fireplaces were set with kindling and wood, ready to light. I go the extra mile. I care. However, nothing pleased this woman who criticized everything and complained. Her first complaints were that the outside trash recepticle had garbage bags in it and the coffee pot wasnt adaquate. I dont control trash pick up schedules but I had a new can delivered that same day with Keurigs largest new coffee maker with a box of pods. Direct TV had temporary issues which are certainly beyond my control. She even criticized and demeaned the decorating, knowing that is my profession. Its a mystery why she rented it if she didnt like the decor. The pictures are very clear. In a mean spirited note left to me, she complained that the carved bear outside the bathroom window made her uncomfortable that it was probably equipped with a camera and a teddy bear on a hallway shelf she moved because it looked like a nanny cam; she got lint on her body from a towel; the 3rd bathroom looked like a dungeon; and the sleek black toilets " unnerved" her. She told me I should not even be hosting because I obviously lived there. (My listing states this is my mountain retreat and the point of VRBO etc, is to offer ones home to travelers.) She also complained about my leaving bottles of drugs ( which are vitamins) which she only would have seen going through my private drawers! She never mentioned that someone spilled something on my newly shampooed rug and didnt bother to try to blot it up, which I didnt see until a few days later, putting back furniture she had rearranged.
Re: the lighting: I didnt think I'd have to explain to someone how 3 way bulbs and dimmers work, with the option of low to bright light. Most of the lamps/ fixtures have this feature. There are 9 lamps in the great room, also ceiling spots and 2 skylights! There are at least 2 lamps in every room plus ceiling light. Had she told me about the lighting, I could have enlightened ( no pun intended) her. However, the house is in the forest with 40 ft trees. It will never be "operation room" bright. I have a kitchen trash can and provide kitchen size trashbags that fit into the cabinet. The flat-screen TV fits in a custom cabinet that raises out of the cabinet by remote control. If you Google gas heaters it will tell you they are noisier than electric but it definitely is not loud. In winter in the mountains you do have to wait a bit for the hot water to reach the farthest faucets. None of these complaints have ever surfaced before. There was no mention of the new, upgraded, beautiful things, that are the result of a $140,000 recent remodel/refurbishing or the magnificent forest setting along the creek. In spite of this unpleasant and unkind experience, I will continue to host and honor my guests in the manner in which I would want at the lovely Creekside Paradise. If you have read this far, please read my other reviews and look again at the pictures. I believe you can judge for yourself.

Beautiful Home and Grounds
My Husband, 15 year old and I rented this house for 3 1/2 days and 4 nights. We spent two full days at the Celtic Festival there in Grass Valley but slept at the house at night.. The other days we were able to be at the house the whole time. The house is very charming and and very comfortable. We were surprised by all the knickknacks and I think the first day we must have spent a good hour just looking at all the knickknacks. Absolutely charming! It very much reminded me of my Grandmothers house. We enjoyed an evening down in the seated areas which was very nice. We love waking up to seeing a family of deer looking out the bathroom window. It was funny as our 15 year old refused to sleep in the bedroom that would have been his. He didn't want to wake up with deer's staring at him or (Big Foot) as he put it. We were very surprised by that but the couch was very comfortable to rest on. The toilets were a surprise and I will leave it at that but nothing bad, just interesting. We would recommend this property. I have a feeling at Christmas it would be amazing and I have a feeling the owner would add that holiday charm! I would like to say Thank you to the owner!

Beautiful home and wonderful host :)
Kathy’s home was exactly as pictured, beautifully decorated and with an amazing peaceful backyard on a creek. Be careful with young children, there’s a lot of small breakable. Makes the house beautiful but you just have to make sure to watch your kids well so nothing gets broken. The bed was comfortable, good central location and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

wonderful experience at an exquisite property
Kathy: thank you for sharing your delightful home. It was a Christmas present to my family that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Your electric holiday ornaments and decor were so special and joyful it made for a special celebration. The obvious love you put into your home and garden gives it a welcoming and comfortable feeling which was enhanced by your prompt and attentive responses to my questions during the stay. In short, I could not have asked for a more perfect spot to escape to for a few days. We cannot wait to return in the spring to see the plethora of plants, flowers and blossoms blooming. Thank you for sharing such a gorgeous and hospitable home with us. I would be delighted to recommend it to others and you may feel free to offer my contact information should prospective renters have any questions - of course, I would prefer to keep it a closely guarded secret! Best wishes, Ken

What makes this property unique
The Creekside Paradise has a creek that runs in every season along the length of the near acre property and is literally a part of the yard, steps away from the house!
