About this property
Salty Devil's Rest - Coastal Wilderness Shack
Welcome to Salty Devil’s Rest, an original 60’s beach shack set in a coastal dunescape with valley views to the ancient rainforest of the Tarkine wilderness.
Spend your days exploring the river and local beaches before returning to the shack, lighting a log fire and enjoying a sundown drink on the front deck.
There’s surf beaches, 4wd tracks over the dunes, boating, fishing & hiking so bring the gear and come prepared to have your mind blown in this wild and spectacular corner of Tasmania.
Tassie Beach Shacks are unique structures, somewhere between a cabin and a cottage. Buildings that are designed to keep you connected to the surrounding environment, whilst also providing warmth and shelter. Salty Devil's Rest has been restored, improved and functionally upgraded providing everything you need for a comfortable stay in Arthur River. Inside, spaces are quirky, light filled, airy and uncluttered. Outside there's a larger scale, with the expansive deck overlooking cleared areas and coastal bushland views.
There's a BBQ shelter with bench seats and firepit higher up the dunes out back looking out towards the river.
The Shack sleeps 4, it has 3 bedrooms: 1 larger room with double bed, 2 smaller rooms with king single beds. A bathroom with piping hot shower, toilet & laundry. The kitchen has electric oven & stove, all cooking equipment, utensils, plates, cutlery, glasses, cups etc. provided. Large fridge-freezer to stock with supplies and be self-sufficient for longer stays. Up to 6 additional guests can camp on the grounds.

Location great. This was a return visit of a week - speaks for itself! Clean, quiet, comfy bed, dog friendly. Log fire. Hope to return on next visit to Tassie. There are lots of walks in the area, plus the Tarkine loop drive that took us a day. Pippa swam in the river by the boat ramp upstream of the bridge. No tv (that was relaxing) but we had books to read and internet. Thanks for a lovely 8 nights
Great little place for 4 people to stay. First impressions was, its a quiet small little place but very cosy, and with the wood heater the place feels very warm. The bbq area is a great area to cook, have a beverage and talk about the days fishing! Overall a great place to spend a few nights while trying to catch that elusive Sea runner. Thanks for the stay.

Please repair back door lock - impossible to close! And front screen falls off every time we opened the door.

Thanks for feedback. Communication is key. I send 2 messages to guests during the stay, if you have a problem it's best to respond, otherwise I assume everything is fine. The very minor issue with the screen door is a recent development and will be fixed within a few weeks.
Images depicting the shack accomodation are accurate. The accommodation was clean on the inside, had a rustic shack like eclectic charm. Everything was comfortable including the bedding. If you made use of the wood heater and heater for the bedroom you are kept warm and cosy which is the whole shack vibe. The accomodation was located next door to the Arthur Rive4 Takeaway and store - the only food take away and store in town which was convenient, as we didn’t bring items for lunches. If you elect to stay check if they are open as the hours of the store vary with the seasons. We stayed in early October School vacation period and the store was open Thursday through to Saturday. The shack is located across the road from the Parks and Wildlife campsite and ranger “station”. It was generally quiet but Saturday morning things pick up with the arrival of the all terrain vehicle crowd visiting to take their buggies onto tracks and the beach. The host provides good wifi internet and some games and books for guests. If you like a TV there isn’t one.My wife enjoyed a hot outside bath which was a treat. The yard was fenced and kept our two dogs in. We had plenty of space inside for our dogs bedding on the floor. The host provided plenty of firewood for our three night stay which we were grateful for as it was cold at night.Wombats and wallabies visit the property at night.Kitchen equipped for simple meals.Make sure you visit Marrawah Perriwinkle Beach .
