host was very communicative, allowed us to extend our stay, there were plenty of kitchen supplies and things throughout the house so we found everything we needed (fishing rods, playing cards, etc) the area is so nice and everyone around is so kind especially the next door neighbor Eric. if you have a chance to meet him he’s an awesome guy.
We had a wonderful time. Lake access, location, and a sweet quiet neighborhood of cottages and families created a restful and enjoyable experience. We loved the master suite, waking up to a view of the lake. This is a great house for multiple families or generations because of the separation of guest areas. Whether on the deck,or on the dock, there are plenty of outside places to enjoy the view. And if you don’t want to cook in the well equipped kitchen, the Boathouse restaurant is just down the road.
The house was spacious and accommodated my family of 6 well. It was very clean and we really enjoyed the dock by the lake. The owner was very kind and we will definitely stay here again!

Great location, perfect? No, but decent especially for families with kids. It seems ideal for summer and OUTSIDE lake adventures/access. It needs some TLC & a good pressure wash and fresh paint inside and out. Lots of mismatched and blown lightbulbs. I read ALL the reviews beforehand. Seems most items not really addressed. It seems best for families who just need to play, sleep, clean up, feed the masses and enjoy the country and lake access.
This is our third year staying at Marc’s lake house and we absolutely love it there! Beautiful house and beautiful lake. So many wonderful memories made there.
Everything was wonderful during our stay. The weather didn’t cooperate much which wasn’t a problem as the ping pong table downstairs became daily family tournaments into the late evening. I needed to cook for my niece‘s wedding and the kitchen was equipped with everything and plenty of space. The one day we had great weather the boys fished off the dock and rented a kayak. Thank you Marc, we had a great time.
This home on Lake DeRuyter was perfect for our extended family vacation. The house was equipped with all our needs. The owner was responsive with questions. The dock was perfect for fishing and swimming was great as weeds were well controlled. The property is dog friendly as well, which made this vacation even better. Will definitely stay again!
We had 2 families, 5 kids and 4 adults altogether, and had a lovely time. The house is tidy has a nice view of the lake from the east side. The kitchen has almost everything you need. The bedrooms are perfect for 2 families with kids.

The property is very tired; dirty wall to wall carpeting up the stairs and in master, duct taped rugs in dining area, staircase from deck goes down to alley of trap like rubble - dangerous for seniors and children alike. Basement rooms typically basementy; one of the bunk beds is held up by what appears to be cinder blocks covered by a towel. No sign of pictured large grill or attractive outside furniture. Waterfront was great. Older children loved jumping off dock and we brought kayaks which were easy to launch and fun for all. This could be a wonderful vacation spot with updating and repair.

On arrival the property was 60 degrees and heat was not working. We called the owner and he attempted to fix it remotely but came in the morning when temperature was 58. Our family was unable to sleep the first night due to the cold. Owner refused our request of a 200 refund. Home needs a deep clean and carpets need a shampoo. We saw mice on downstairs level and heard them at night. We have been renting for years on VRBO. This was our worst travel experience.
We have rented a few homes over the years and this is definitely our number 1! The owner responds right away and goes above and beyond to insure your stay is spectacular. The place is absolutely gorgeous as well as the view. Even all the locals we met were beyond helpful and so nice. This will definitely be a repeat vacation for our family ! Mark thank you so very much for allowing us to share in this amazing place and cant wait to visit again this summer!
We have been visiting the area for the last 3 years as our son is at nearby Colgate. We have rented many homes for weekend visits. This was by far the nicest experience we have had,Just a beautiful large comfy home. Immaculately clean and well stocked. Ping pong in the basement kept the kids occupied during a rainy weekend. The large streaming TV was great for Netflix movies.Comfortable beds and large dining area. Oven was great for chocolate chip cookies.Oh, and the view of the lake is gorgeous.Property manager was great. Responded to every question promptlyWe will absolutely be back.5 stars !!!!
Beautiful views and very comfortable house. Nice kitchen, great room and comfy beds. No complaints. I enjoyed walking around the houses and lake in the morning. Great fall location. We escaped SU family weekend and stayed here. Would do it again. Note that the fireplace is not usable.
Property is as advertised: a lovely home on the DeRuyter Reservoir. We really enjoyed getting away from the stress of our lives, and appreciated how clean the house was. The house had everything we needed, and all we had to do was pack clothing and food. We forgot the coffee, but there was some there for us already! My son loved playing ping pong, and it was great that we could bring our dog with us too! A ton of space and a great view, like looking from a treehouse when you are in the living room. I was able to do some birdwatching too. The owner even gave us the name of a great local pizza place!

Guest left the place a mess . The reason I have control over AC is because some keep the windows open and because remotes are 200$ each and they go missing or broken . We also have nest thermostats at propterty that control only the boiler heat and guests have a hard time understanding.. I ask guests what they want and usally forget it . How many camps have AC is a better question on the lake? To get 2 stars for a burnt-out light is comical. Also, the water didn’t run out I had to replace house water filter because pressure was getting low and did this with in 2-4 hours of finding out…. House is the nicest rental on lake for the the money ….

Easy to find, pretty accommodating
The owner was responsive to questions and I privately messaged him our concerns about the property's lack of cleanliness and some broken items that I hope he will address before the next person stays. He says he uses a maid service so obviously those issues start with them. The listing is slightly misleading as it says it sleeps 10, but there are 2 bedrooms that have 1 king bed in each and a 3rd bedroom that has 2 twin over full beds. We were fine cosleeping with our littles but if you want your own sleep space, consider bringing an air mattress.
Otherwise, the furniture was comfortable, the place was kid friendly, and the house was easy to find from the road. It was centrally located to all of the places we were visiting so that was very convenient.
The owner of this property couldn’t have been more accommodating! Due to flight challenges we arrived at the property @ 11pm. The owner stayed in communication w/us during our long drive from the airport, went out to the property to turn on lights even took a picture of the front steps & sent it to us. He gave us detailed instructions to find the house in the dark The roads in that area don’t have lights & we wouldn’t have been able to find the house easily had he not.
The house itself is an incredible bargain for the $, the lake view beautiful, the neighborhood peaceful. The mattress on the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on.
Our visit was for my daughter’s graduation. She had challenges packing & we ended up needing a late check out. Again the owner couldn’t have been more accommodating. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give the property a 10.
This house is just ok. Check in was easy the house was clean but needed quite a bit of tlc. It was obvious that this house was remodeled years ago and has since just been rented out and minimal upkeep. Our first night we had no ac because there were no remotes for the ac the owner controlled them from his phone. We messaged him and he did come over the next afternoon to give us a remote so we could have ac. Also the first night we had no power downstairs called the owner and I had to reset the breakers for it. Also upon arrival we noticed that the dock was not in the water and we brought a boat from an hour and a half away to use it and couldn't. The owner did put the dock in on our 6th day so we could use the dock for 1 and a half days. The big deck down on the water has many rotten boards that makes it dangerous for dogs and family members. On the last day we woke up to no wifi in the house which is unacceptable because the signal in the area is terrible. Overall the owner is very nice and tries to do his best and is very responsive but in the end this was our worst vrbo yet.

AC is a luxury and people dont have a clue how to use it . The remotes are 200$ each and end up going missing so i have to do this remotely to avoid costly bills. Dock was broken and had but its out now and there were 3 spots that had rot on the deck and now fixed

If I were VRBO, I would look closely at this property before continuing to list it. It is a law suit just waiting to happen. Below is a list of major concern:- None of the smoke alarms were working, and two were missing- large holes in the deck, along with rotted planks with screws heads poking through- A wood beam was a step into the swimming area, and was covered with moss and slim and was slick as ice- Iron I beams holding the lower deck completely uncovered in the swimming area, and angle iron holding the dock sticking out into the water- All six dining chairs had loose legs, which with a wrong move would put someone on the floor. I had to repair myself- The grill that was listed was rusted out completely, so I had to borrow from the neighbors- All pots and pans were unusable, again had to borrow from a neighbor.-the deck chairs that were shown were nowhere to be foundI contacted the owner, and he said if I was not satisfied, I should just leave!!! I spoke with a neighbor and they said this owner has other properties with similar problems, and the owner does not seem to care at all. I find it hard to believe other renters haven't given the same type of reviews. This property has serious safety issues. Again I think YOU should investigate this, as you should not list this until repairs have been made. And I don't care if the owner says we were difficult renters. I paid big money for a SAFE, clean property, and this didn't come close. Visitors were appalled

First, I did not say to leave during the stay. but suggested that if he had major issues that he could have vacated. If he was so worried about his safety and kids' safety he would have left and would have gladly given those days in a rebate, but because the weather was beautiful, we will stick it out and complain after !!! Had a few rotten holes in the deck that that got worse and fixed them immediately. Second the smoke detectors he took off and brought out and we had given batteries to the guest because he insisted, we don't enter the property. We have NEST system as well as the normal smoke detectors. Point is there is a backup system that was working We ended up giving another newer grill that day and it wasn't rusted just needed a good cleaning to get the excess grease off. The step into the lake he speaks of is the neighbor's property ! Not part on this. Tenant said he was going to blackmail me personally after the fact of leaving. It was all a problem when he left and enjoyed the place and beautiful week. I even gave him free of charge a paddle boat for the kids to use .
Booked for Syracuse graduation weekend; had family arriving at different times. I msgd Marc (host) to let him know my initial headcount had grown from 6 to 9, just in case there was anything he needed from me. His response struck me as odd since the home is advertised to sleep 12, “9 is not an issue but going to be some people on couch”. I wasn’t happy about it, but knew my family would make it work. My niece, the graduate was first to arrive. My ETA was approaching 11 PM. She called me, freaking out! When she walked into the home, she saw dead bugs everywhere and a dead mouse in the middle of the living room - she had to leave. I immediately reached out to Marc to let him know there’s a problem. Marc did not respond to my message until after I spoke to VRBO support and they contacted him. When he did respond, he was dismissive, like this was no big deal. I chose this rental based on the rating but I failed to read all the reviews. I have since read the reviews and they are eye opening if one takes the time to filter them. VRBO support was wonderful at trying to mediate this awful situation. One agent telling me he wouldn’t want to stay there either. The host was unreasonable and very difficult to deal with. My family was in town for one weekend. We all needed to get up very early for graduation the morning after that horrific check in. Obviously, I needed to book another place we would feel comfortable, so we did NOT stay here.

As I explained to them the house has poison traps around the perimeter of the building and as the maid cleaned the house, she prob had the slider opened. The bugs are the mayflies in NY so if there is a way to stop these from NY, during spring please tell me and it was about 10-15 near the same slider.
On water we do get a mouse here and there, but we do everything we can and was able to remove it in 10 min.
Take a look at reviews and cleanliness on this property besides hers .

Why they chose this property
This property on the lake has probably the best swimming and fishing. One of the nicest rentals on DeRuyter Lake
What makes this property unique
Property offers a unique waterfront quality for the lake compared to other areas on lake. Swimming is considered the best on lake with stone bottom and very little weed growth. Fishing off dock is fantastic and deep enough for any larger boat. All the benefits of home!!!
