Excellent location!
We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. The property is excellent in all ways - everything was spotless, the living quarters and kitchen very spacious, the bedrooms perfect with very comfortable beds, and the bathrooms very good. The check-in process was seamless, communication with the host excellent, and there was a lot of information material on the area available. We especially enjoyed the quiet and fairly remote area - the dark night sky was breathtaking, and there were lots of birds on the property, perfect for us birders. We highly recommend this property and hope we can come back.

So glad you enjoyed your stay, and could appreciate the rocks - they had been collected over years by the prior owner, a retired geologist / archeologist. Come again!
perfectly clean comfortable home on a spacious lot with ample room for habitat exploration and privacy. Hosts Rhonda and Mark are gracious, accommodating, and I feel they sincerely want their guests to have the best experience possible. We hope to be able to visit here again.
We loved staying at this place on our birding trip to the Chiricahuas. It was spacious with full-stocked bird feeders, and quick access to Portal and beyond. We will definitely try to stay here the next time we visit!

We were lucky enough to find this rental in this area, and it made our trip so much more comfortable while we were able to explore the surrounding mountain ranges. It was very clean and just what we needed.

Great property to get away from it all. The house was very clean and surprisingly big. The kids loved watching all the birds coming in to the feeders and walking around looking for lizards. You can't beat the mountain views at sunrise and sunset. Perfect base for exploring the Portal/Rodeo area.

From the Owner: "We’re glad to hear you found the house roomy and enjoyed the location. We do provide welcome materials with our personal contact information, so we were surprised not to be contacted during your stay regarding the carpet, toilet seat, BBQ, or any other concerns. That said, we truly value your feedback and inspected the property right away upon receiving your review. We found that the toilet seat had been removed but was not broken , it has since been reattached and tightened securely. The BBQ grill showed signs of use but was not dirty aside from exterior dust typical of our desert environment. As it is not listed as an amenity, we’ve removed it from the property out of an abundance of caution. The carpet showed no issues beyond the standard wear we address with thorough cleaning after every guest stay.If you’re able to share more specifics about the carpet, we’d be happy to discuss them privately. We always encourage guests to reach out to us during their stay so that any concerns can be addressed immediately and not impact their visit."
We were three women who visited the area for birdwatching. The property provided us with an excellent place to stay---with three bedrooms and more space than we really needed. One of the women especially liked walking around the property and viewing birds while doing so. Wish we had booked a longer stay.

Birding Adventure
We spent two nights at this place while birding the area. The place was very clean and roomy. It suited our needs perfectly. Close to all the great birding sites but secluded and peaceful for quiet evenings. Plenty of supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, towels and even bird seed for their feeders. Would recommend it!

Property was comfortable for us to each have our own bedroom. The house and kitchen was nice. We did run out of coffee grounds and had no instructions for the TV.
Very peaceful and quiet. Beautiful surroundings and the views of the Chiricahuas is magnificent. Wonderful time. We’ll be back

A truly peaceful retreat
I’ve visited the Chiracauhas many times, but this was our first time staying in nearby New Mexico. It was much more relaxing and tranquil than I anticipated. The High Desert Home was spacious, comfortable, and had everything we needed. Rhonda was an excellent, responsive host.

Hi Ramona, we’re so glad you found our home to be a peaceful retreat and that it exceeded your expectations! The Chiricahuas are a special place, and it’s great to hear that staying in New Mexico added to your experience.
Thanks for your kind words, and we’d love to host you again for another relaxing getaway!
This roomy three bedroom house is exactly as stated on line or better. Exceptionally clean, stocked with everything you need to make the stay comfortable. Soft white towels, comfortable beds( we stayed in the 2 rooms with queen beds. The third bedroom listed a futon but it looked like a full bed). Loved the area and we loved the property with all the pretty rocks. You do need to bring your food groceries are a long way away. Good food to be had if you want to eat out at the nearby sky Island grille and Portal Cafe. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

From the owner: "Six stars! Thank you for the compliment! The futon was removed, and two full beds were moved into that room instead. Please come back and bring your friends."
Wonderful location allowing us to bird State Line Rd on our trips in and out of Portal while also providing dark skies to enjoy the stars at night. The house was lovely and roomie. We prepared our nightly meals in the large kitchen, relaxed in the comfy living room and bird watched from the dining room table and kitchen window. FYI - they aren't kidding in their description about the lack of groceries available locally ... come well stocked with your food needs for the length of stay or you will need to take out a small loan to buy the basics 😳 (this applies not just to them but anywhere you stay in the area - for good reason - food is having to be transported a good distance for convenience, so be prepared).
