Good Place By the River Waiting for Some TLC
Great:
- Right by Bold River. You sit at the dining table and see it through several windows. Beautiful!
- With normal water level, you can build dams and splash around in the river. There's no broken glass or so. We did see a snake in the water once, but it took off when we came close.
- You're surrounded by nature
- Log home w. natural wood everywhere
- The issue of lacking blinds is resolved, no problem with too bright bedroom anymore
- The a/c works well and is very quiet
- The neighborhood has a lake with sandy beach. Unfortunately there's no info on it in the welcome folder in the house. We didn't know that there is a separate section of the neighborhood on the other side of the main road. That's where the lake is. We only found it on the last day when we looked for the trash compactor. Too late... The watering hole is now closed for swimming.
A surprise: You're just about 150ft from the highway on the other side of the river! When you sit on the deck, you hear trucks, etc.
Room for improvement:
- The queen bed is too soft. Impossible for belly sleepers. If one person moves, the entire bed is in 'earthquake mode'.
- 2 of 4 ceiling fans sound like grinders and need to be replaced
- Solar LED lights are everywhere (outside). About a quarter work.
- There's a mix of glaring white daylight and pleasant warm white lights inside and outside. Gives the impression of not caring. Please: Warm white everywhere.
- Coldwell Banker's management feels a little ... cold. The jungle of rules, and threats of steep fines, don't create the 'warm welcome' feeling that we we love about most 'homes away from home''
- Cleanliness was just ok: Spiderwebs in fron of the windows and sand on the floor at least in the master bedroom. Outdoor furniture didn't look inviting, gas grill the same.
Overall, this is a very good house in a very good location. A little TLC to upgrade the lighting and replace broken things, plus a more solid cleaning job will go a long way. The close highway isn't too bad as the sounds of the river mask the road noise most of the time. With summer foliage, traffic is hardly visible. If you like to be in and around a river, this place is worth a try.
