The cottage is set up for guests so make yourself at home. The cottage access is not at the main house, number 30 letterbox, it is 100m further up the road.
Hunterville is the last place to buy things before you arrive here if coming via SH1, our local Four Square shuts around 7 pm. Closest supermarkets are in Marton, Taihape and Feilding.
We have a small foxy, but she will be with us most of the time so should not bother you. She is great with children but can get a little bit excited and jump up. Please let us know if she bothers you at the cottage. You can also firmly say, "go home" and point to our house and she will normally listen. She is not allowed in the cottage, although she will act like she is :)
Across the road from the cottage there is a long paddock on top of the cliff. Be safe and don't go over the fence. You will see what I mean when you get here! It is a spectacular view and a great place to take a chair and watch the world go by! If the electric fence is on, make sure you turn that off to go in and turn it back on when you leave.
Our road is reasonably quiet too, so of course make yourself at home going for a wander. We have some bikes for kids and small adults, one day we will have bikes for everybody, but not as yet. If you're interested we will bring them over to the cottage, just let us know.
Just down the hill from us is Vinegar Hill. Great place to take dogs and/or kids to the water! Mangaweka is not far away and there is river access there as well and a short bush walk. Check out our Guide Books for information on local attractions and more.
As well a great place to stay, we do offer other experiences; animal experiences and pony rides/sessions. Please ask us about this on booking.
DOG POLICY
Bringing Dogs
Thanks for wanting to bring your dog/s along with you on your stay. We are happy to offer this as an option with the following conditions
- Dogs are to be crated or bed trained if inside, they are not to be wandering the cottage and definitely not on furniture or beds
- We have a lot of farm animals here, so your dog must be under your control at all times, or tied up/crated
- All dog waste must be picked up and disposed of, either in pooh bags, or in the long grass over the road. A shovel for this can be found in the cottage car port
- Please do not use our spare blankets as dog blankets, a dog blanket and indoor bed can be provided if needed (please ask)
Extra Info
- We can provide a crate and chew proof lead if needed, please ask
- There is a vacuum cleaner behind the couch if you need to vacuum up any hair
- At the back of the cottage is a carport, which will provide plenty of under cover space should your dog be outside
- The cottage paddock is fenced, not well enough for little dogs though, so please be aware of this
- There is a water tub at the side of the cottage by the hose
- We also have dogs who are good with other dogs, but if your dog doesn’t like other dogs let us know and we will keep ours confined to our house section
- Let us know your time of arrival as best you can so we can make sure our dogs are managed when you arrive
Basically if you are bringing a dog, by the time you leave there should be no evidence a dog was present. Failure to adhere to the above expectations will result in you being billed a $50 inconvenience fee, payable immediately.
Thanks so much for understanding our expectations, unfortunately we have had a lot of disrespectful dog owners and are considering no longer allowing dogs to come, but we are hoping with clearer expectations it doesn’t have to come to this.

About the host
Hosted by Jack Dekeuleneer & Cheryl Gray
I am a NZer and my partner Jack is from Belgium. I have 3 young children and we have a lot of animals. We love sharing our place with others, especially because it is an opportunity for people to switch off due to no TV or wifi. We love hosting families and find joy in watching people enjoy our animals and outdoor space.
Why they chose this property
The view and the peace!
What makes this property unique
There is a lot to see and be part of in such a small area. Not having wifi and tv means people can focus on other things and each other. The cottage has games for inside and activities for outside. We live in a peaceful place, yet we are still close enough to civilisation for convenience.
