Our family of 5 including our 3 young adult children and small dog had a great stay at Hummingbird Shore. The cottage was comfortable and clean. The host was great with very detailed instructions on every aspect of the cottage. The highlight for us was the outdoor activities including swimming kayaking and fishing.
Thanks!

thank you SO much Paul and posse. Delighted to read you enjoyed your stay! The welcome mat awaits your return.
The cottage was warm and tranquil. The scenery from the lake and deck was breathtaking. Of all the cottages on Stoney Lake, this one felt the most secluded since it was tucked away behind some trees, with no cottages directly across the lake and the next-door cottage set back further. The cottage was quite spacious for just the two of us and our little dog, offering ample room for bigger families. The kitchen with a large island is great for gathering around. The open concept layout extends out to the deck. There are numerous large windows and sliding glass doors that let in plenty of natural light and showcase the serene lake views. We spend most of the days on the dock, enjoying the sun and venturing out on the kayaks. Pat was a fantastic host; she was attentive and a joy to communicate with. We plan on returning in the near future. Marco and Alicia

Thank you for your kind review. Marco and Alicia, you are dream guests! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. On your future return expect a warm giant hug with an extra squeeze.
Enjoyed the lakeviews from the deck and family room. Hummingbirds did not disappoint! The cottage was very well stocked. The bunkie is very nice and located close to the cottage for easy bathroom access. We all loved the outdoor shower.
While the bedrooms were a very good size and bright and airy, the stairs up are very steep and would recommend anyone with mobility issues try to use the bunkie.
Thanks Pat for your quick and welcoming communications.

First time using VRBO
This was my first time using VRBO after a decade of using a cottage rental company, so my expectations might be different than others. I appreciate that it must be worrisome to have strangers in your private space, but I did find some of what we experienced surprising.
We were directed to review a binder when we arrived with info about the cottage. It instructed us not to flush anything other than bodily waste and encouraged us not to flush toilet paper at the risk of clogging a sewage tank under the cottage resulting "in a costly (to you) mess". It also asks renters to use an outdoor shower. None of this is mentioned in the online listing and it created some anxiety during the trip. I know it's not uncommon with cottages, but at $500/night, I would have considered other options.
When we arrived the fridge was mostly full. It was difficult to find space for our things.
The cottage is lovely and the lake is magnificent. There are a surprising number of cottages (15 - 20) within view of the dock (and one very close one) but they were very quiet and friendly.
On the last day I had the vacuum out at 8am but it had no suction as the bag was overflowing (no extra bags anywhere). I ended up on hands and knees with a dust pan which made the cleaning process long & chaotic.
I understand renting is stressful, especially if you have a sensitive sewage system, but I would have appreciated knowing that ahead of time (I would have also liked a spare vacuum bag).

Thank you for your perspective Ian. As you know, I was extremely disappointed in how my clean and tidy full-time home was left by you. The disrespect was gobsmacking. Without exaggeration, it took five hours to clean up your mess, when it should have taken no more than two to launder linen, remake beds, and do a light clean. Frankly, I've been renting sporadically on and off for years with nary a problem. Your stay is the worst I have ever encountered. To find things put away haphazardly including a glass bowl that was caked in bacon grease, shaving clippings in the bathroom, and filthy toilet bowl rims, was beyond upsetting. Prior to your arrival the fridge was empty, with the exception of condiments on the side door shelves, for your use. The fridge freezer also offered you a full bottom shelf for your frozen goods. Clearly you did not respect the water consumption/toilet use suggestions. Toilet paper had to be purchased to replace the large quantity of rolls used during your stay and the holding tank needed a pump out shortly thereafter when it's typically pumped 2x/year. Tossing TP is an internationally embraced practice and was a recommendation. NOT flushing stuff like Tampax, pads, diapers and the likes was a specific request because those things can clog up the system, and yes, cause a costly mess to the culprits. Further, no other guests have EVER complained about the manual being left out with important upkeep details. A cottage/home is unlike a city home. Those details provide critical maintenance insights. As for the vacuum not working, I acknowledge the problem there, but did ask you to do a thorough sweep/mop up instead. Your sense of thorough and mine vastly differ: the floors were littered with bits n pieces, especially teeny tiny beads on all three levels of the house. Resultantly i cannot honestly recommend you as a guest to others. The 500/night fee you quote is well above the 370/night I charge. Be aware vrbo adds a lot of extra charges beyond the host's control.
