Gorgeous spot to stay! Beautiful views from the kitchen/living room. Close to great restaurants/cafes. Owner was very quick to respond and the place was very clean.

Response from VrboOwner on 5 December 2024
Lovely guests! Stayed for almost a month and was wonderful every time we talked. Place was left so clean as well.
Unfortunately, our experience hosting this guest was not positive. During the reservation period, several house and community rules were not followed. The property’s maximum occupancy of six guests was exceeded, and quiet hours were disregarded. A large gathering took place without authorization, resulting in noise disturbances and multiple vehicles parked inappropriately throughout the neighborhood, which caused inconvenience to nearby residents.
We made several attempts to contact the guest through the VRBO platform and by phone to address these concerns but did not receive a response. Following checkout, the property required extensive cleaning and repairs, with damages totaling approximately $530. A claim for reimbursement has been submitted through VRBO and remains pending at this time.
Due to these issues—rule violations, lack of communication, and property damage—we would not recommend this guest to other hosts.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Riverside Cottage. It's a beautiful retreat from the city - thoughtfully renovated, decorated and well stocked. We had a minor issue at check-in, but Stephanie and Carl were quick to resolve it for us.
The property was cozy and we appreciated the cleanliness of the home and Stephanie's response times when we had questions. We only wish that there was wifi :)
We had an amazing stay at Stephanie's place. The house is beautiful and it would be a dream to live in a place like this. I love the Gather Cafe that is just across the bridge and as a vegan I am very happy there are options for us to eat in this lovely small town. It was big enough for us to have my family over for dinner a couple times on the patio and indoors when it rained. There are a lot of little touches that make you feel like you are right at home and have everything you need.
Our time here was so relaxing and peaceful yet so fun! We slept in longer than we ever have! The indoors is beautifully done and the property grounds were a child’s dreams from jumping on the trampoline to roasting s’mores (thanks Stephanie!) to catching and releasing minnows! The host is very responsive, flexible and kind which made it such a pleasant time. Can’t wait to visit again!!!
We really enjoyed this peaceful, well equipped and spacious accommodation.
The beds were comfortable, the heavy blinds made for a nice sleep-in. The wood everywhere inside and the beautiful river in the backyard made it feel like a lodge in the forest. I wish my grandkids had been there to enjoy the trampoline and play equipment.
We could have spent a lot more time on the great trails nearby.
The host was really good with communication and she made our first Vrbo rental very positive and enjoyable, even given the sad reason for our stay.
We planned Christmas here as our son was close by and only available for the day.It was perfect! It was the most well appointed kitchen I’ve ever had in a rental. The chef knife was sharp!! Unheard of!!I made a huge Christmas dinner, it went off perfectly. We had a fantastic day and slow relaxed morning before leaving. The fire place made the room super cozy, we snuck in a movie streamed onto the tv, and all slept in comfy beds with beautiful sheets, blankets, and pillows!Anything we needed, the owner was right there.Thank you so much!

About the host

I am from Caledon and enjoy being able to promote it as a place to come with friends and family to celebrate at a wedding or unwind for a weekend away.
Why they chose this property
We love Alton. It’s a hidden gem of a small town with big city amenities like fine dinning and spa services at the Millcroft, wonderful art at the Alton Mill, a tonne of hiking trails nearby. It also has great locally owned options like Gather Cafe and Rays Bakery. It’s a super walkable town with lots of friendly people out walking their dogs or bike riding with their kids. We lived in Alton full time for almost 7 years before needing to transition to caring for family members. We had to continue to be a part of its community and our answer was Vrbo.
What makes this property unique
This property is a 1960’s gem with solid wood walls. That means all the electrical is run through electrician installed conduit on the surface of the wall, think industrial meets country. I wish I could take off the blue siding and show you the almost 5 inches of cedar that enclosed this cottage but then we would have no insulation. From the kitchen on the first story above the unfinished walkout basement you can watch the credit river rush past. The big backyard is a work in progress as we work to reclaim it from invasive intruders like Manitoba maples, grapevine, snow on the mountain and mint, safe to be around but a challenge to manage.
