About this property

Georgian Seafront fisherman’s cottage | Sea views | Old Town

Welcome to Smugglers Cottage, a beautifully renovated Georgian seafront home dating back to 1790. This remarkable four-storey fisherman’s cottage sits directly on the seafront in the heart of Hastings Old Town, with its independent shops, restaurants, galleries and the beach just moments from your door.

From the bay windows on the first and top floors, you’ll enjoy spectacular 180° views across East Cliff and the sea — watching the light shift from soft winter sunrise to dramatic sunset skies.

Winter at Smugglers

There is something especially magical about the cottage in the quieter months. Stormy seas, crisp coastal walks, glowing sunsets and evenings curled up indoors with the sound of the tide in the background.

Run a deep roll-top bath, light candles, pour a glass of wine and watch the waves roll in. After a windswept walk along the beach, return to warmth, comfort and sea views that never feel ordinary.

Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a creative retreat, or a peaceful reset, Smugglers Cottage offers atmosphere, history and a front-row seat to the sea.

Features guests love:
• Luxury bathroom with roll-top bath and rainfall shower
• Games room in the basement with full-size table football
• Uninterrupted sea and cliff views
• First in line to the beach
• Just one alleyway (approx. 50 yards) from George Street’s restaurants, bars and vintage shops
• Television with DVD player
• Complimentary selection of teas and coffee
• Bath salts, shower wash, shampoo and conditioner
• Separate laundry room with Bosch washing machine, clothes airer, steam iron and board
• Brand-new fully fitted kitchen with cookware and utensils

The house has been thoughtfully furnished with antique and quality pieces, some dating back centuries. To preserve these beautiful wood surfaces, we kindly ask guests to use placemats and coasters for hot drinks and wine.

Access Information

As a historic Georgian property, the staircase to the first floor is steep and may not suit guests with mobility concerns. There is no banister on the basement staircase, though a handrail is provided.

Please also note:
• The master bedroom is on the top floor
• The second bedroom is on the ground floor (two flights below)

Parents of young children should take this layout into consideration.

Beautiful period home in a great location

The house is situated in the perfect spot with everything you need provided. Right by the sea and George Street with restaurants bars ice cream and coffee a stones throw away. Communication from Adriana was excellent. Toiletries provided and games room in the basement.thank you

Erg klein pittoresk huisje

Het huisje is gezellig ingericht. De voorzieningen zijn erg beperkt (geen vaatwasser, geen wasdroger). Het wordt verhuurd voor 4 personen, terwijl het huisje eigenlijk maar voor 2 geschikt is.

Pleasant stay

The property was very clean and comfortable although you needed to be fit to climb all the steep stairs. A house book with useful information such as where rubbish should be deposited would have been helpful. Communications with the owner felt a little remote and was always last minute, although comprehensive when it happened.
