Fo'c'sle is a delightful detached timber clad retreat, located in the heart of the North Norfolk countryside in Wiveton just a short drive to the coast, and home to one of North Norfolk's best restaurants, The Wiveton Bell, making it ideal for couples to both relax and explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Fo'c'sle, (pronounced Folk-sall), is an old fashioned word for forward castle, the part of a ship with the sailors' living quarters. Set in the heart of the Glaven valley, you don't have to worry about the sea conditions to enjoy this peaceful hideaway!.
Attractively furnished with many of the finishing touches coming from the local pottery / gallery “Made in Cley”, the open-plan ground floor offers a well-equipped compact kitchen, a bright kitchen/dining area with double doors opening into the private courtyard and a cosy sitting room with wood burning stove.
On the first floor you are greeted with a large bedroom with picture window providing lovely views over the church and valley and a comfy king-size bed and en-suite shower room.
The cottage is looked after by the owners who live next door, who can give great tips on what to do and where to go in the local area.
Nestled between the coastal villages of Blakeney and Cley-next-the-Sea, Wiveton is an ideal location to enjoy the beauty of the Glaven valley with its wildlife, birdlife and walking opportunities, whilst being located just one mile south of the coast road. There is an excellent bus service operating along the A149 coast road, the 'Coasthopper' which is great for walkers in that the bus route shadows the Norfolk coast path. This enables one way walks to be undertaken with relative ease and is a great way of visiting the coastal villages without the need to use your car. The Wiveton Downs is a registered "Dark Skies" site where it is possible to see the northern lights if you're really lucky, and this area of the UK it is unaffected by light pollution so making it ideal for star gazing.

This property was ideal for a couple quiet relaxing break. The property has a little sitting area outside which is secluded with only the property owner or postman walking past. It was lovely and clean.

An excellent place to stay
This property is situated in my favourite north Norfolk village and is within easy walking distance of the coast and marshes with excellent bird watching opportunities. The villages of Cley and Blakeney provide local food shops.. F'o'c'sle is cosy and beautifully appointed with ceramic pottery from a local shop. The nearby owners are friendly and helpful and there is a pub within 6 minutes walk.
A super friendly and welcoming host and cottage in this fabulous part of the world.
It would have been useful to know grounds aren’t enclosed for the purpose of our dogs needing to be monitored and not venturing onto the road but that didn’t detract from the fabulous experience of staying here

A lovely place to escape to in Norfolk
A lovely little cottage to escape to, close to pubs, shops and most importantly the beautiful North Norfolk Coast. It had everything we needed (well, almost, but our hosts sorted that out the same day!!). The basket of logs for the fire was the icing on the cake after a days walk.

Our Stay
Found property rather small for us and dogs. Views from the bedroom windows were not as described just looked like a junk yard.
Outside the property it was very messy and uninviting. Enjoyed our walking and getting out and about but found this property very disappointing.
Response from VrboOwner on 29 May 2022
Thank you for your review and we were so sorry to hear that the views from the property are not as they should be and that the outside space is unkempt. We have sent your comments on to the owner as we are sure that they will be very disappointed to see this and we very much hope that they will be able to address the issues. For our part, we will get our marketing team to look at our website details to see if we can make them any clearer and also add that the property is really only suitable for small dogs.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to write to us and I would like to assure you that we/the owners will be addressing the points that you have highlighted.

Lovely cottage in a lovely location
A very cosy, clean and well equipped cottage; whilst compact and bijou, it's certainly big enough for 2 adults and 2 dogs. Great location for a stroll to Cley next the Sea and the Bell at Wiveton, and within easy access to many lovely dog friendly beaches. We would not hesitate to recommend this lovely cottage.

A superb place to stay close to the wonderful Norfolk coast line
The cottage was a fantastic place to stay in, comfortable, clean and cosy. Everything was done to a high standard, super comfortable bed. The cottage is placed at a great location close to the North Norfolk coast line and fantastic places to dine, walk on beautiful sandy beaches and wonderful places where you can buy local produce and lovely craft to purchase too. I can highly recommend to book this cottage.

The Fo'c'sle
The house is small but perfectly adequate for a holiday. The owners live just over the fence and are very kind and welcoming. It is in a beautiful location and within walking distance of Cley and Blakeney. There was very little traffic and it is very peaceful. We had an excellent meal at the Bell in Wiveton and a very nice one in the White Horse in Blakeney. It was very clean.. Overall we had a lovely time and I recommend it highly.
